World bronze-medallist Simranjit Kaur (60 kg) advanced to the final but seasoned MC Mary Kom (51 kg) had to be content with a bronze medal after going down in a gruelling semifinal bout at the 35th Boxam International Boxing Tournament in Castellon, Spain.
Joining Simranjit in the last-four stage was debutant Jasmine (57 kg) after she defeated Italian Sirine Charaabi. Simranjit got the better of Puerto Rico's Kiria Tapia.

Kiren Rijiju Bats for Hosting Olympics in India
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju pitched for hosting the Summer Olympics in the future, saying that the Olympic movement is not complete till India hosts an edition of the quadrennial sporting extravaganza.
During a virtual conference organised by the Conference of Indian Industry, the 6th CII Scorecard, Rijiju complimented United Kingdom for hosting the Olympics on three occasions.
On the occasion, Rijiju also highlighted his ministry's two big initiatives -- the Khelo India and Fit India programmes. He appealed to corporates to launch the Fit India movement in their offices. Rijiju also appealed to the business fraternity to help in making sports a vibrant industry in India.
Sania Ousted from Qatar Total Open
Sania Mirza's first tournament in more than a year ended with a semifinal defeat as she was ousted from the Qatar Total Open along with her partner Andreja Klepac.
Sania and her Slovenian partner lost 5-7 6-2 5-10 to America's Nicole Melichar and Dutch player Demi Schuurs in one hour and 28 minutes.

Six-time world champion pugilist Mary Kom has been appointed as the chairperson of the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) champions and veterans committee.
The committee, formed in December 2020, consists of most respected worldwide boxing veterans and champions who have achieved significant results and who are ready to share their experience.
Sania-Andreja Pair Enter Semifinals of Qatar Open
Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her Slovenian partner Andreja Klepac sailed into the women's doubles semifinals of the Qatar Open with a straight set win over their rivals.
Sania and Andreja made short work of fourth seeds Anna Blinkova and Gabriela Dabrowski, winning 6-2 6-0 to reach the last four round.
The Indo-Slovenian pair will next play top seeds Czech Republic's Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.

Kieron Pollard Hits 6 Sixes in an Over
West Indies cricketer Kieron Pollard has become the third batsman in international cricket to hit 6 sixes in an over. Pollard achieved the feat when he hit Sri Lanka's Akila Dananjaya out of the park 6 times in the 6th over of West Indies' successful chase in the first T20I at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.
KIeron Pollard joins World Cup-winning former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as the only other batsman to hit 6 sixes in an over in T20I cricket. At the international level, it was former South Africa opener Herschelle Gibbs who achieved the feat first -- in the World Cup 2007 match against the Netherlands.
Manish Kaushik Enters Quarters of Spanish Boxing Tournament
Olympic-bound Indian boxer Manish Kaushik (63 kg) advanced to the quarter-finals of the Boxam International Tournament with a facile opening round win in Castellano, Spain.
The world championship bronze-medallist defeated Spaniard Ammari Raddouane 5-0 to make the last eight, where he will be up against Kazakhstan's Sufiullin Zakir, a two-time Asian silver-winner.
Kaushik, also a Commonwealth Games silver-medallist, is returning to the ring a year after qualifying for the Olympics in the Asian Qualifiers in Jordan.
A 14-member Indian contingent (eight men and six women), including nine Olympic qualified and other top boxers, is taking part at the 35th edition of the tournament. All 14 of these boxers have made the quarter-finals already.

Indian shuttlers Win Uganda International Titles
Indian shuttlers Varun Kapur and Malvika Bansod registered hard-fought wins to clinch the men's and women's singles titles respectively at the 2021 Uganda International in Kampala.
Varun beat seventh seeded Sankar Muthusamy in the men's singles final, while second seed Malvika notched up a come-from-behind victory over compatriot Anupama Upadhyaya in the women's singles summit clash.
