Odisha to Sponsor Indian Hockey Teams for 10 more Years
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that the Odisha government will sponsor the Indian Hockey teams for 10 more years.
Patnaik made the announcement at a felicitation programme for Indian men's and women's hockey teams in Bhubaneswar.
The state government started sponsoring the national hockey teams in 2018.
Raunak Sadhwani Wins 2021 Spilimbergo Open Chess Tournament
Indian Grandmaster Raunak Sadhwani has won the 19th Spilimbergo Open Chess Tournament in Italy. The fourth-seeded Sadhwani, who hails from Nagpur, remained undefeated in the tournament, with seven points from nine rounds, in which claimed five wins and four draws. In the ninth and final round, Sadhwani and Italian GM Pier Luigi Basso finished level on seven points, but the Indian was declared the winner on the basis of a better tie-break score.
Italian Club Roma Signs Tammy Abraham from Chelsea
Italian club Roma signed forward Tammy Abraham from Chelsea for 40 million euros (USD 47 million).
Abraham replaces Edin Deko, who moved to Serie A champion Inter Milan.
Abraham progressed through the ranks at Chelsea and scored 30 goals in 82 games. He also had loan spells at Bristol City, Swansea and Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old Abraham, who has played six times for England, helped Chelsea win the Champions League last season.

Dream Over for Afghan Para-athletes
Zakia Khudadadi would have been the first woman to represent Afghanistan at a Paralympic Games when they start in Tokyo this month, but her dream has been shattered amid the country's turmoil.
The Afghanistan Paralympic Committee's London-based Chef de Mission Arian Sadiqi said that the country's two athletes would not be able to attend the Games that commence on August 24.
India's Pacers Script 151-run Win over England
India's world class pace attack pulled off an incredible heist with the bat and then a magnificent performance with the ball to decimate England by 151 runs in the second Test.
The fifth day at the hallowed Lord's was as good an exhibition of Test cricket with India bowling out England for 120 as they tried to bat it out without going for a chase of 272 in 60 overs.
It was a match where odds were in favour of England but Virat Kohli's men scripted another golden chapter in the history of Indian cricket.
This is India's third Test match win at Lord's having won earlier in 1986 and 2014 series and they now have six points in the World Test Championship.

Youth World Championships
Indian archers won all their matches in the recurve under-18 section to grab two gold and three bronze medals at the Youth World Championships.
The men's team defeated their French rivals 5-3, while the mixed pair followed suit with a 6-2 win over Japan to continue their winning run on the country's 75th Independence Day.
Overall in recurve and compound sections, India have won five gold, two silver and five bronze medals in their best-ever show in the tournament.
Alexander Donchenko Wins RTU Open Chess Tournament
S.L. Narayanan (7 points) finished runner-up after a draw with Israel's Ilia Smirin in the ninth and final round of the RTU Open chess tournament in Riga, Latvia.
A win with black over Igor Kovalenko in round 9 gave Alexander Donchenko tournament victory at the RTU Open in Riga. In the end, Donchenko was the only player to score 7½ points, so he did not even need to bother with tiebreak-criteria calculations. After losing in round 3 against a lower-rated opponent, Donchenko sensationally won six games in a row to win the event.
Unmukt Chand Inks Multi-year Deal with Major League Cricket
Former India U-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand has signed a deal with Silicon Valley Strikers for the 2021 season of the Minor League Cricket (MLC) in the US.
Unmukt who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, will make his debut for the Strikers against the Socal Lashings at the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Complex in a Toyota Minor League Cricket Championship.
Chand has relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area and signed a multi-year agreement with Major League Cricket to support the development of the game in the United States by playing with and mentoring the next generation of American cricketers.

National Sports Awards Function Delayed
The National Sports Awards function, which is held on August 29 every year, has been pushed back since the government wants the selection panel to consider the performances of the para athletes competing in the Tokyo Paralympics. The Paralympics will held from August 24 and conclude on September 5.
The awards -- the Khel Ratna Award, the Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award and the Dhyan Chand Award -- are given away each year by the country's president on August 29, the National Sports Day which is also the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.

Indian Team for Tokyo Paralympics Accorded Warm Send-off
A 54-member Indian team for the upcoming Tokyo Paralympics was accorded a warm send-off by Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and the national governing body, with high hopes that the country will return with its best ever performance.
The team has some of the brightest medal prospects like Devendra Jhajharia, seeking his third Paralympics gold (after 2004 and 2016) in F-46 javelin throw, Mariyappan Thangavelu (T-63 high jump) and world champion Sandeep Choudhary (F-64 javelin throw).
India will compete in nine sports.
Badminton will be played for the first time in the Paralympics 2021.
