Medvedev Wins U.S. Open to End Djokovic Calendar Grand Slam Bid
Novak Djokovic's quest for a record 21st major title that would have completed the calendar-year Grand Slam collapsed at the final hurdle with a 6-4 6-4 6-4 loss to Russian Daniil Medvedev in the U.S. Open.
Djokovic was trying to become the first man in over a half-century to win all four majors (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open) in the same year.

Guinness World Records Recognise Ronaldo for Most Goals Scored
Portuguese captain Cristiano Ronaldo has broken the world record for most goals scored in men's international football. Ronaldo surpassed Iranian striker Ali Daei's long-held record of 109 international goals by scoring a brace against Ireland in a World Cup Qualifier. Ronaldo at 36 years of age is now a Guinness world record holder of most international goals of all time with 111 goals.
The Guinness world book of records has recognised Cristiano Ronaldo as a world record breaker for the most goals scored in international football (soccer) matches scored by an individual (male). Ronaldo achieved the feat scoring goals for his native Portugal between 2003 and 2021 proactively over a span of 18 years with a career still going strong as he looks to overcome yet another new challenge after his move away from Turin with a year left on his contract with the Bianconeri.
FIFA Unveils Biennial World Cup Plan
FIFA detailed its plan for reshaping international soccer around playing the men's World Cup every two years despite European opposition that could lead to a boycott.
Joined by retired greats, FIFA unveiled the proposal but the pushback from Europe was immediate as UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin confirmed it could launch a boycott by its teams which have dominated soccer's marquee event since Brazil won in 2002.
About 80 former internationals including World Cup winners went to Qatar for two days of FIFA-hosted talks and emerged with consensus for playing the tournament twice as often.

BWF Cancels Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament
The Syed Modi International Super 300 tournament was cancelled by the Badminton World Federation for the second year in a row.
The tournament, which was also cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was scheduled to be held in Lucknow from October 12 to 17.
The BWF, which has had to cancel several tournaments due to Covid-19 complications and restrictions, however, did not specify the exact reason for calling off the tournament in India.
Lionel Messi Scores Hattrick, Goes Past Pele
Argentina captain Lionel Messi scored a hattrick against Bolivia in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying match at the El Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires. Messi with his three strikes became the top international goal-scorer from South America with 79 goals to his name, going past Brazilian legend Pele's tally of 77 goals.
Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo is the leading international goal-scorer with 111 in 180 matches but Messi, who recently moved from Barcelona to PSG football club, now has 79 in 155 games to be tied in 5th spot with Godfrey Chitalu of Zambia. Messi scored in the 14th, 64th and 88th minute of the game to set up Argentina's 3-0 win over Bolivia.

India's T20 World Cup Squad
Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was included in India's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup alongside Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy. Meanwhile, in a surprise move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has brought in country's iconic captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as mentor for Team India for ICC T20 WC 2021.
Ashwin last played white-ball cricket for India in 2017 before being sidelined from one-day cricket following the Champions Trophy.
The big names to be dropped were opener Shikhar Dhawan and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

India's Jeev Milkha Singh First Golfer in World to be Granted 10-Year Dubai Golden Visa
Star Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh has become the first professional golfer in the world to receive the prestigious 10-year Dubai Golden Visa in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the sport.
Jeev has had a long association with Dubai, having featured in several tournaments and making many friends in the city.
During the 2001 Dubai Desert Classic, Jeev had established a world record at that time when he completed the four rounds with just 94 putts while finishing tied sixth.
Jeev has won four titles on the European Tour, four on Japan Golf Tour and six on the Asian Tour.
Other sportspersons who have been granted the Golden Visa by Dubai include footballers Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo and Romelu Lukaku, tennis superstar Novak Djokovic, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her husband and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
