Harmanpreet Kaur to Lead Indian Women's Cricket Team in Commonwealth Games
Seasoned batter Harmanpreet Kaur will lead a 15-member Indian team in the maiden women's cricket competition at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham starting on July 28.
Opener Smriti Mandhana will be her deputy in the competition that will feature women's T20Is.
India is in Group A with Australia, Barbados, and Pakistan. Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand, and South Africa are placed in Group B. The top two teams from the respective pools will progress to the semi-finals. India is scheduled to play three games in the league stage of the tournament.
Adani Group Names its UAE ILT20 Cricket Team Gulf Giants
Adani Sportsline, the sports arm of the Adani Group, announced the name of its team in the UAE International League T20 (ILT20) as Gulf Giants and hired 2010 ICC World T20-winning coach Andy Flower as the coach of the team.
The Gulf Giants is an extension of Adani Sportsline's brand Gujarat Giants.
Adani Sportsline engages with fans through popular Indian leagues such as the Pro Kabaddi League, the Big Bout Boxing League, and the Ultimate Kho Kho League under this brand.
India's Arjun Babuta Wins First Gold Medal at ISSF World Cup in South Korea
Arjun Babuta of India earned his first gold medal in shooting at the Changwon, South Korea, International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup stage. Finally he overcame Lucas Kozeniesky of the US 17-9. Arjun Babuta had previously outperformed Lucas Kozeniesky in the eight-men ranking round with a score of 261.1 to 260.4. Sergey Richter of Israel finished third with a score of 259.9, and Paarth Makhija of India came in fourth with a score of 258.1.
Since 2016, Arjun has competed for the Indian Shooting Team. At the 2016 ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, the 2016 ISSF Junior World Cup in Gabala, the 2017 ISSF Junior World Championship in Suhl, and the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup, he competed for India (Sydney).

Indian Women's World Cup Dream Ends
The Indian women's hockey team crashed out of the FIH World Cup title race after losing 0-1 to co-hosts Spain in a hard-fought crossover match.
After a fiercely-contested three quarters, the Indian defence let in a goal just three minutes from the final hooter when Marta Segu scored from a rebound to exit from the knock-out rounds.
As has been the case so far in the tournament, India fared poorly once again in converting penalty corners. They earned four in the game against Spain's three but all the chances went in vain.
94-year-old Bhagwani Devi Creates History, Wins Gold Medal at World Masters Athletic Championship
Ninty-four-year-old Bhagwani Devi created history by winning a gold medal for India in the 100m sprint at the World Masters Athletics Championship-2022 in Tampere, Finland.
The 94-year-old from Haryana ran 100 metres in 24.74 seconds to clinch the gold. Bhagwani also bagged a bronze medal in shot put.
World Masters Athletics Championships was an event for athletics (track and field) for athletes aged 35 years and over.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc Wins Austrian Grand Prix 2022
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc held off world champion Max Verstappen to win the Austrian Grand Prix 2022. Red Bull's Max Verstappen had to settle for second and Mercedes' seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was a distant third, after starting eighth, to complete the podium for the third race in a row. Leclerc, whose victory is his first in Formula 1 had not started on pole position, has now closed the gap to Verstappen in the drivers' championship standings to 38 points.
The 2022 Austrian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria. It was the second Grand Prix weekend of the 2022 season to utilise the Formula One sprint format.

Wimbledon 2022: Elena Rybakina Beats Jabeur to Win Maiden Grand Slam Title
Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan defeated Ons Jabeur of Tunisia to win the women's singles title at Wimbledon in three sets and claimed a historic maiden Grand Slam title for herself and her country.
Rybakina fought back brilliantly after losing the first set to defeat third seed Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a final between two first-timers.
Djokovic Wins 21st Grand Slam Title
Novak Djokovic won his 21st Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. The Serb defeated Australia's Nick Kyrgios 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6(3) in the final.
This was Djokovic's 7th Wimbledon title.
AFI Clears Jeswin Aldrin for World Athletics Championships
After two trials, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) finally cleared long jumper Jeswin Aldrin for the World Championships.
Aldrin was called for trials on July 4 and 8. He was expected to jump close to the 8.10m mark in order to make it to the July 15-24 World Championships in Eugene, USA. But he touched 7.99m and 7.93m in the two trials. AFI, however, decided to allow him to compete in the event.
Aldrin had gone past the World Championships qualification mark of 8.22m during the Federation Cup in April but he was not named in the original Indian team on the ground that his performance had dropped consistently after that. He had recorded 7.82m, 7.69m and 7.71m in the next three competitions.
Gujarat to Host 36th National Games in September
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) agreed to host the 36th National Games in the state. This will be the first time the state will host the prestigious games, scheduled to take place between September 27 and October 10, 2022.
The 36th National Games were to be organised in Goa in May 2020, but they were postponed indefinitely due to the spread of Covid-19.
The various sporting events will be spread across the state covering six cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
India's GM Gukesh Wins Gijon Chess Masters
India's D. Gukesh won the Gijon Chess Masters at Gijon, Spain, with eight points out nine rounds. GM Alexandr Fier of Brazil finished second with 6.5 points while International Master Pedro Antonio Gines of Spain came third scoring six points. In the ninth and last round, Gukesh drew with Cuba's GM Martinez Duany.
With the win, Gukesh took his FIDE rating to 2693. If he crosses the Elo rating of 2700, Gukesh could well become the sixth Indian to do so after Viswanathan Anand, Krishnan Sasikiran, P. Harikrishna, Vidit Gujarati and B. Adhiban.

Munkhbayar Dorjsuren Appointed Indian Pistol Team's Foreign Coach
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) appointed two-time Olympic medallist shooter Munkhbayar Dorjsuren as the chief foreign coach of the national pistol team ahead of the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, Korea.
The vastly-experienced Munkhbayar from Mongolia, who won bronze medals in the 25m pistol event in both the 1992 Barcelona and 2008 Beijing Olympics, had also trained shooter Rahi Sarnobat who had won a gold in the 2018 Asian Games. Sarnobat had become the first Indian shooter to achieve the rare feat.
Munkhbayar was appointed keeping in mind her experiences, her understanding of the sport and most importantly, due to her worldwide reputation as a fantastic mentor for budding shooters.
CWG Organisers Reject Tejaswin's Late Inclusion
High jumper Tejaswin Shankar will not be able to take part in the upcoming Commonwealth Games even after winning a case in the Delhi High Court against his exclusion from the Indian athletics team after the organisers rejected his late entry.
The Birmingham CWG organisers have informed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) that "late athlete replacements (LAR) will only be permitted to compete in events in which the original athlete was entered".

Asia Cup 2022: 15th Edition of Asia Cup Cricket Tournament
After months of uncertainty over Sri Lanka hosting the Asia Cup 2022 due to the economic and political crisis in the country, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the country's cricket governing board, affirmed that it is ready to host the tournament starting from August 27.
The Asia Cup was originally scheduled to be held in September 2020, with India entering the competition as defending champions. But the tournament was postponed to two times due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hosts Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will feature in the tournament and will be joined by another Asian side, which could be either UAE, Kuwait, Singapore or Hong Kong, to be decided after a qualifying tournament.
The 2022 Asia Cup will be the 15th edition of the tournament, having started in 1984 in Sharjah. India is the most successful team in the tournament, winning it seven times.
Rybakina Topples Halep to Reach First Grand Slam Final
Elena Rybakina became the first player from Kazakhstan to reach a major final after defeating 2019 champion Simona Halep of Romania in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 at Wimbledon.
Rybakina will now face another first-time Grand Slam finalist, Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, for the Wimbledon title.
World No.23 Rybakina, who became the youngest Wimbledon finalist since Garbine Muguruza in 2015, is seeking her third career singles title.
