Jaipur to Get India's 2nd Largest Cricket Stadium (02)

  • Vedanta's Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL) signed an MoU with the Rajasthan Cricket Association for the development of the world's third-largest cricket stadium in the village of Chonp in Jaipur. Vedanta's HZL will spend INR 300 crore on the stadium, one of the largest corporate investments in India's sports infrastructure. The stadium would be named as Anil Agarwal International Cricket Stadium, Jaipur.
  • It is one of the world's largest cricket stadiums with a seating capacity of 75,000, (2nd largest in India and 3rd largest in the world).
  • The MoU was signed by Bhawani Shankar Samota, Honorary Secretary, Rajasthan Cricket Association and Arun Misra, CEO Hindustan Zinc in the presence of C.P. Joshi, Hon'ble Speaker, Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha and Chief Patron, RCA, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc and Non-Executive Director, Vedanta Ltd. and Vaibhav Gehlot, President, Rajasthan Cricket Association.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger inducted into Premier League Hall of Fame

  • The Premier League inducted former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger into its Hall of Fame. This is the first time that managers were included in this prestigious list. The two managers had a fierce rivalry during the 1990s, with a combined 16 English top-flight titles to their names. Ferguson led Manchester United to 13 Premier League titles during his 26-year reign, while Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups with Arsenal during his 22-year tenure. The Premier League Hall of Fame was launched in 2021 to honour players who have made an exceptional contribution to the league.

Shakib Al Hasan Becomes the Top T20I Wicket-taker

  • Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan surpassed Tim Southee and became the leading wicket-taker in the T20I format.
  • According to data from International Cricket Council (ICC), Shakib has 136 wickets in 114 T20I matches. On the other hand, Tim Southee has 134 wickets just two shy of Shakib's tally.
  • Shakib claimed this record by picking up a five-wicket haul against Ireland.

Canadian Teenager McIntosh Sets 400m Freestyle World Record

  • Summer McIntosh set a world record in the 400m freestyle at the Canadian swimming trials.
  • McIntosh finished in a time of 3:56.08 at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre to beat Titmus's time of 3:56.40.
  • Earlier in March 2023, McIntosh ended American Katie Ledecky's nine-year home pool winning streak when she touched first in the 200m freestyle at a Pro Series swim meet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

BFI President Ajay Singh Elected as Vice-president of World Boxing Body

  • Boxing Federation of India (BFI) chief Ajay Singh was elected as the International Boxing Association (IBA) vice-president. Singh's appointed was confirmed during the IBA board of directors meeting.
  • Singh, who is in his second term as the BFI president, became IBA's third vice-president and will stay in the role till 2026 alongside Volodymyr Prodyvus of Ukraine and Serbia's Abdulmutalim Abakarov.

FIFA Strip Indonesia's Right of Hosting Under-20 World Cup by FIFA

  • FIFA stripped Indonesia's right to stage this year's (2023) Under-20 men's World Cup, over what an Indonesian official said was a failure to honour its commitments to the tournament.
  • The decision to stop Indonesia staging the May 20-June 11, 2023 tournament was taken after the country's football federation (PSSI) said that it had cancelled the draw because the governor of the largely Hindu island of Bali refused to host Israel's team.

Indian Grand Prix 2: Tajinderpal Singh Toor Wins Shot Put Gold

  • Tajinderpal Singh Toor dominated the men's shot put in the AFI Indian Grand Prix 2.
  • Toor won the gold medal with a best effort of 19.76 m. Toor is still looking for his first 20 m effort of the year. Karanveer Singh won the silver medal with a throw of 19.17 m.

Sunil Chhetri Becomes Fifth Highest Goal-Scorer in International Football

  • India played some inspiring football against higher-ranked Kyrgyz Republic to snatch a 2-0 victory and bagged the Hero Tri-National International Tournament Trophy with an all-win record in Imphal. India had earlier defeated Myanmar 1-0. Captain Sunil Chhetri scored a record 85th international goal in India's win.
  • With the goal, Chhetri overtook Hungary's Ferenc Puskas as the fifth-highest goal scorer in the history of football. Chhetri is overall third in the list of active footballers with the most goals, behind only Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina's Lionel Messi.
