CSIR Develops Three Mob Control Vehicles for Paramilitary Forces

To provide modern technical support to paramilitary forces deployed in maintaining law and order and internal security operations, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has developed three innovative mob control vehicles (MCV).
The MCVs, categorised as compact, medium and heavy category, are claimed to be the first-of-its-kind advanced indigenous design and featured development programme in the country.
The MCVs have been designed and fabricated by CSIR's Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, which had earlier brought in indigenous tractor revolution in India.
The heavy category MCV prototype has a 7.5-ton payload capacity, while, the medium category has a 2.5-ton payload capacity. The compact one is a tractor-based vehicle for easy maneuvering. The key requirements and technical specifications for these vehicles have been evolved and formulated with the involvement of various stakeholders.

India, US Start Discussions on F-15EX Multi-role Combat Aircraft: Boeing

The US and India have held discussions on F-15EX fighter jets and the two respective air forces have exchanged information about it, after the aerospace major received approval from the American government to offer its latest multi-role combat aircraft to the Indian Air Force.
The F-15EX is the latest and most advanced version of the multi-role, all-weather, and day and night versions of the F-15 aircraft family.

First Indo-US Combat Drill of Biden Era in Rajasthan Next Week

India and the US are all set to kick off a major combat exercise in Rajasthan next week, in the first such bilateral wargames after the Biden administration took charge in Washington and reiterated India's role as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific as well as the need to strengthen the "Quad".
Indian officials said that the 'Yudh Abhyas' exercise, which will be held at the Mahajan Field Firing ranges from February 8 to 21, will once again underscore the continuing upward trajectory in defence cooperation with the US, which enjoys bipartisan support among the Democrats and Republicans.
The US contingent for Yudh Abhyas will include a brigade headquarters and a battalion group of around 250 soldiers from a Stryker Brigade Combat Team. India will also field an infantry brigade headquarters and a battalion group from the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry for the exercise.

HAL Completes Sukhoi Order

The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has manufactured the last two Su-30MKIs of the 272 aircraft contracted from Russia and is all set to deliver them to the IAF.
One aircraft is certified and inducted for BrahMos modification. Another aircraft has been produced and planned to be certified by February end. The delivery formalities for acceptance by the customer are being finalised.
India had contracted the Su-30s from Russia in batches of which 222 were assembled by HAL at its Nasik plant under Transfer of technology (ToT) since 2004. Of the 272 fighters, 40 are being modified to carry the air launched version of the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos. The IAF has started receiving the aircraft and has deployed some at Thanjavur air base in Tamil Nadu last year.

Tejas Mark II to Roll Out Next Year

According to Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd R Madhavan, a more potent version of the indigenous Tejas multi-role combat jet featuring a much powerful engine, greater load-carrying capability and next-generation electronic warfare system is expected to be rolled out next year and its first high-speed trials will start in 2023.
He said that the structural package and related work on the Tejas Mark II, which will have an array of superior avionics, was progressing well, and the production of the high-performance jet is likely to start around 2025.

Tata to Build Military Aircraft in India as it Acquires IP Rights

In a first for the industry, the Tata Group will develop and manufacture a military aircraft in India, having acquired intellectual property rights for a German-origin platform. The plan is to integrate indigenous sensors and payloads to convert it into an intelligence gathering asset.
The high-altitude, twin-engine aircraft, capable of playing multiple roles from signal intelligence to cross-border surveillance, is currently in the final stages of testing in Germany. It is likely to arrive in India in the next three months for further integration.
This would be the first time that an Indian private entity is looking at making a full military-grade aircraft, which until now has been the domain of the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics NSE 1.28 % (HAL).

China Launches Second Advanced Naval Frigate for Pakistan

China launched the second naval missile frigate equipped with an improved radar system and long-range missiles for its all-weather ally Pakistan to help it bolster maritime defence and deterrence capabilities, according to a media report.
The Pakistan Navy has contracted the construction of four Type 054A/P frigates from China since 2017, and the first ship was launched in August last year.
The Type 054A multi-purpose, guided-missile frigate is the mainstay of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, with 30 vessels in commission.
Compared with previous Chinese frigates, the new version has better air defence capability, as it is equipped with an improved radar system and a larger number of missiles with a longer range, Zhang said, noting that the Type 054A frigate also has world-class stealth capability.

India Gets 6K Negev LMGs from Israel

India had signed a contract with Israel Weapons Industries (IWI) in March 2020 to procure 16,479 LMGs under Fast Track Procedure.
With the disputed border with China and Pakistan active at the same point of time, the guns will add more firepower to the deployed frontline troops. The Negev 7.62X51 mm Light Machine Gun is a combat proven weapon and used by several countries around the globe.
This LMG will greatly enhance the lethality and range of a soldier vis-à-vis the presently used weapon.
Indian Army received first lot of consignment of 6,000 quantities in January this year in Mumbai. The guns have been shifted to Jabalpur and are undergoing proper inspection. The rest of the guns are expected to arrive by March end of this year.
The Acquisition Wing of Ministry of Defence then had signed the capital acquisition contract with Israel Weapons Industries for procurement of 16,479 LMGs at a cost of Rs. 880 crore.

Boeing Gets United States Government Approval to Offer F-15EX to India

Boeing has received a licence from the U.S. government to offer its F-15EX fighter jet to the Indian Air Force.
Boeing will compete with Sweden's Gripen and France's Rafale among others for the Indian Air Force's plan to buy 114 multi-role aircraft to replace its Soviet-era fleet.
Ankur Kanaglekar, director, India Fighters Lead, Boeing Defence, Space & Security, told reporters that discussions on the F-15EX had taken place earlier between the two governments.
India and the United States have built close defence ties, with the Indian military buying over $20 billion worth of weapons in the last 15 years.
Lockheed Martin is also pitching its F-21 fighter to the Indian air force, offering to build the plane in the country to win the deal estimated to be worth more than $18 billion.
