Indian Army Leases 4 Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicles from Israel

The Indian Army has leased four Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) from Israel as part of its emergency procurement programme. The Heron, with the Indian Army for some years, can be particularly effective in intelligence gathering as it is a long-endurance UAV and can be in the air for about 50 hours at a time.
The lease comes with the Defence Ministry changing the rules and allowing for the leasing of certain weapon systems. Similarly, the Navy has leased Predator drones from the United States.
The Herons apart, the Army has used its emergency powers to ensure that it has enough ammunition and spares for a two-week war, even if it is on two-fronts, high-level sources said. The emergency powers, given by the government in the wake of the situation in Ladakh, have allowed the army to get necessary spares and ammunition and also, strengthen its anti-tank weaponry and buy much needed anti-aircraft systems.

DroneShield Partners with M2K Technologies for the Indian Market

"DroneShield" or the "Company", a global leader in drone detection and mitigation, and M2K Technologies, part of M2K Group with business interests in Defence & Aviation, Biologicals, Real Estate and Entertainment, have entered into an Agreement to collaborate and distribute DroneShield solutions in the Indian market.
Oleg Vornik, DroneShield's CEO, commented, "M2K Technologies is a strong business partner in the Indian market, which has been seeing a rapid rise in the c-UAS requirements, being driven by non-State (such as criminal and terrorist) and State-based use of UAS, including escalation of the India-China border conflict along the Line of Actual Control (LAC)."

Indian Navy's Combat-readiness Exercise TROPEX-21 Underway in IOR

Indian Navy's largest exercise -- Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX 21) -- to test its combat readiness in the context of the current geo-strategic environment is underway in the Indian Ocean Region.
The month-long drill will witness joint exercises by ships and aircraft and other assets of the Indian Air Force, Army and the Indian Coast Guard in the IOR, including its adjunct waters.
The theatre-level exercise also aims to validate the Navy's offensive-defence capabilities in a complex multi-dimensional scenario, safeguard national interests in the maritime domain and promote stability and peace in the IOR.
The conduct of Tropex-21 is being overseen by the Naval Headquarters with participation from all three Commands of the Navy and the Tri-Services Command at Port Blair.

Adani Defence to Focus on Small Arms and Ammo, Anti-Drone Systems

Adani Land Defence Systems and Technologies, the defence venture of Adani Enterprises, is focusing on small arms and ammunition, anti-drone systems and maintenance, and aircraft repair and overhaul as the mainstay of its manufacturing operations.
A range of small arms–from assault rifles of the Tavor family to light machine guns (LMGs) and assault carbines–were on display by the company at the AeroIndia show, the first since it acquired 51% stake in PLR Systems, a joint venture company with Israel Weapons Industry (IW).
The Adani Group, a new entrant into the defence sector, has made a series of acquisitions over the last one year, including the Bengaluru-based Alpha Design Systems Ltd. which works on a range of systems for the air force–from parts for the Su 30MKI fighter jets to upcoming orders to supply components for the light combat aircraft (LCA).

American Soldiers Reach Rajasthan for Joint Indo-US Military Exercise

A contingent of 270 American soldiers reached Rajasthan to take part in a fortnight-long joint military exercise with the Indian Army, 'Yudh Abhyas 20', at the state's Mahajan field firing range. The contingent reached Suratgarh in a special aircraft to take part in the exercise which will be the 16th edition of the US military exercise under the military exchange program and begin on Monday.
The American soldiers taking part in the exercise are from the US army's 2, Infantry Battalions, 3, Infantry Regiments and 1-2 Striker Brigade Combat Team.

Defence Ministry Signs Contract with BEL at Aero India 2021

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a contract for procurement of Software Defined Radio Tactical (SDR-Tac) worth over Rs. 1,000 crore, during the 'Bandhan' ceremony at Aero India 2021 at Air Force Station Yehalanka in Bengaluru.
The SDR-Tac, jointly developed by Navy, BEL, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and DEAL, will bring strategic depth to the Armed Forces.
The delivery will take place within three years. The BEL is already supplying SDR-Naval Combat (NC) and SDR-Air is under user evaluation trial. The DRDO and BEL are planning to provide the latest SDR with security grading to the Armed Forces.
