The 8th Indo-Kyrgyz Special Forces Exercise 'Khanjar' Flags off

The 8th Indo-Kyrgyz Joint Special Forces Exercise "Khanjar" was inaugurated at the Special Forces Brigade of National Guards of the Kyrgyz Republic in Bishkek, the capital of the host Kyrgyzstan. Initiated first in 2011, the two-week-long special operations exercise focusses on high-altitude warfare, mountain warfare and counter-extremism exercises.
The Indian contingent for the exercise and felicitated their role as a bridge in promoting the shared mountain and nomadic heritage of both nations. A ceremonial parade graced the occasion along with a display of equipment's and weapons and a visit to the training arena and barracks.

Russia's Plan to Restrict Foreign Warships near Crimea Will Keep Kerch Strait Open

Russia's plan to temporarily restrict movement of foreign warships in part of the Black Sea will not affect the nearby Kerch Strait, signalling lower risks for regional trade from Russia-Ukraine tensions.
The Kerch Strait is a crucial part of the regional grain trade connecting the Azov Sea with the Black Sea. The area is also close to military drills which Moscow and Kyiv held simultaneously this week.

Norway to Allow US Military to Build on its soil in New Accord

Norway, which shares a short border with giant neighbour Russia, has signed a revised agreement with the United States on how to regulate U.S. military activity on its soil.
The agreement between the two NATO allies will let the U.S. build facilities at three Norwegian airfields and one naval base, but will not amount to separate U.S. bases.
The deal made by the minority government of Prime Minister Erna Solberg must be ratified by Norway's parliament before coming into force.
"The agreement regulates and facilitates U.S. presence, training and exercises in Norway, thus facilitating rapid U.S. reinforcement of Norway in the event of crisis or war.

Army Moves to Identify Indian Partners to Develop Advanced Protection System for Tanks

With the Ministry of Defence (MoD) having approved the procurement of advanced protection and counter-measure system for its fleet of T-90 tanks, the Army has moved to identify Indian partners to develop the system that would enhance the survivability of armoured vehicles against incoming missiles and projectiles in the battlefield.
Contemporary combat vehicles have onboard protective-cum-warning systems that warn the crew of impending attacks and create a physical interference between the platform and hostile threat to significantly degrade the effectiveness of hostile weapons.
T-90 S/SK tanks are the mainstay of the mechanised forces and are likely to remain in service beyond 2050. Hence, the tanks must be periodically upgraded to cater for the futuristic warfighting capabilities as also facilitate obsolescence management.
The Army could initially procure over 800 protection systems.
