S.M. Krishna, Narayana Murthy, Prakash Padukone Selected for Kempegowda Award

Former Karnataka chief minister S. M. Krishna, Infosys founder and IT industry veteran N. R. Narayana Murthy, and former badminton player Prakash Padukone, were selected for the 'Kempegowda International Award', which was instituted beginning this year.
Karnataka Higher Education Minister C. N. Ashwath Narayan, who is also the Vice-President of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Heritage Area Development Authority, made an announcement to this effect. Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai presented the awards to recipients during the grand celebration on the 513th birth anniversary of Kempegowda, the architect of Bengaluru city, on June 27 at Vidhana Soudha.
All the three achievers have contributed in their own unique way for the development of Bengaluru and the fame it has garnered. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh along with a plaque.

National Logistics Excellence Awards

First National Logistics Excellence Awards was hosted by Government of India in New Delhi. Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of state for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash presented awards in 12 categories.
National Logistics Excellence Awards were presented with the aim of acknowledging many logistics service providers in India that were able to display innovation, efficiency and diversity.
The first edition comprised of 169 entries and 12 categories for awards.
Commerce and Industries Ministry undertook a year-long process to identify, categorise, and select qualified applications.
An expert screening committee, comprising of 18 diverse experts as well as a national jury of 9 senior dignitaries was created to make final deliberations.
Best Cargo Airline & Terminal Operator award was given to FedEx Express Transportation and Supply Chain Services (India)
Best Road Freight Service Provider award was given to DHL Supply Chain India
Best Rail Freight Service Provider award was given to Adani Logistics
Best Shipping & NVOCC service Provider award was given to Maersk India
The National Logistics Excellence Awards was launched on July 19, 2021, in a bid to turn spotlight on the logistics sector. It was instituted to provide due recognition to various players involved in logistics supply chain in India.

Tata Aerospace is Boeing 'Supplier of the Year'

Tata Aerospace & Defence was recognised by The Boeing Company (Boeing) with the coveted award of "Supplier of the Year." The Indian company was amongst nine suppliers that were awarded out of more than 11,000 suppliers worldwide.
The award was given to a supplier who contributes to Boeing's success by sharing risk and through long-term relationships that support and advance our strategic objectives.
Boeing announced that, for the first time, it recognised firms for "proactively managing supply chain quality, readiness and health and delivering on Boeing's commitment to advance global sustainability."

Odisha's Mo Bus Wins the Prestigious UN Public Service Awards

Mo Bus, Odisha-based public transport service was honored with a prestigious United Nations award, for their role and efforts in helping the world recover better from Covid19. The public transport service has been recognised for its role in "promoting gender-responsive public services to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)", the UN said.
Among the other winners of this year's awards, announced by Liu Zhenmin, United Nations Under Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs during a virtual event were public service initiatives from Thailand, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Panama, the Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine.
As per reports, Bhubaneswar Puri Transport Services was created in 2010 with a mandate to manage and operate the bus services on intra-city as well as inter-city routes in Bhubaneswar and between Bhubaneshwar, Puri, Cuttack and Khurda.

Prime Minister's Award for Outstanding Contribution for Promotion of Yoga

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the AYUSH Ministry announced to give the 'Prime Minister's Award for Outstanding Contribution towards the Development and Promotion of Yoga' for 2022 to two individuals and two organisations in recognition of their contributions in the space.
Two individuals Bhikkhu Sanghasena from Ladakh, Marcus Vinicius Rojo Rodrigues from Brazil and two organisations, "The Divine Life Society" from Uttarakhand and the British Wheel of Yoga from United Kingdom were chosen for award. They also received Rs. 25 lakh as cash prize, a trophy and a certificate.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced these awards on the second International Yoga Day to felicitate individuals and organisations who have made a significant impact on society for a sustained time period through the promotion and development of yoga.
The selection of the awardees was made after a two-stage process that reviewed the contributions made by institutions and individuals that were shortlisted. The selections were done under four categories – international individual, international organisation, national individual and national organisation.

Ruth Ozeki: Author and Buddhist Priest Wins Women's Prize for Fiction

US-Canadian author, film-maker and Zen Buddhist priest Ruth Ozeki won the 2022 Women's Prize for Fiction.
The award's judges described her novel 'The Book of Form and Emptiness' as a "celebration of the power of books".
Her fourth novel, it tells the story of a teenage boy who finds solace in reading after the death of his father.
She was announced as the winner of the £30,000 prize at a ceremony in London, beating nominees including Elif Shafak, Meg Mason and Louise Erdrich.

Slumdog Millionaire Author, Noted Diplomat Awarded Honorary Degree in Canada

Celebrated author and retired diplomat Vikas Swarup was honoured with an honorary doctor of letters by the University of Guelph in the province of Ontario.
Swarup was recognised not just for his literary output, but also for his work as a diplomat. He was high-profile spokesperson for India's Ministry of External Affairs before arriving in Canada in 2017 as the country's High Commissioner to Ottawa. He remained in the post till 2019 before returning to New Delhi. He retired in 2021.
Swarup is better known globally for his novel Q&A, which was turned into the film, Slumdog Millionaire. As a release from the University noted, published in 2005, and written in two months while he was posted in London earlier, his "first novel won several international awards and was short-listed for the Best First Book by the Commonwealth Writer's Prize. It has since been published in more than 40 languages.
