Film-makers Aparna Sen, Nandita Das Win Icon Awards at London Indian Film Festival

  • Filmmakers Aparna Sen and Nandita Das were awarded the Icon Award at this year's London Indian Film Festival for their contribution to Indian and global cinema.
  • Running over two weeks and across four cities of London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, the London Indian Film Festival (LIFF) concluded with a series of screenings, in conversation sessions, cinema discussions and an awards ceremony.

Israel Presents Biden with Medal of Honour

  • U.S. President Joe Biden received Israel's Presidential Medal of Honour in recognition of 50 years of support for the country in his career as a politician.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Isaac Herzog praised Biden's uncompromising decades long commitment to Israel's security as he presented Biden with the award. Biden called the award a great honour.
  • Biden assured Herzog that America's commitment to Israel's security remains ironclad, today and in the future.

Japan Awards Ex-PM Shinzo Abe Country's Highest Order Posthumously

  • The Japanese government awarded former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with the country's highest order posthumously.
  • Abe received the Order of the Chrysanthemum. The longest-serving PM of Japan is the fourth former Prime Minister to receive the decoration under the postwar Constitution.
  • Abe was attacked in the city of Nara during his campaign speech. Tetsuya Yamagami, , approached the politician from behind and fired two shots from a distance of about 10 meters (33 feet).

Vice Chairman of Sanmar Group Receives 'Order of the Rising Sun' Award

  • Consul-General of Japan in Chennai Taga Masayuki conferred Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star to Vice Chairman of the Sanmar Group Narayanan Kumar in recognition of his contribution to the strengthening economic relations between Japan and India. Mr. Kumar is among the Spring 2022 Imperial Decorations recipients.
  • Consul-General Taga expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the continuous and dedicated efforts made by Mr. Kumar in promoting friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding between Japan and India by organising economic delegations to Japan as well as a number of events on Japanese economy and culture.
  • Mr. Kumar is also the Chairman of the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and former President of the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Dr. Jitendra Singh Announces Setting up of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Award

  • Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced setting up of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Memorial Award in public administration in the field of academic excellence in memory of the first President of India. Dr. Singh chaired meeting of Executive Council of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) in New Delhi. He said that IIPA has the capacity and it needs to continue performing by having an enlarged pool of experts and a wide spectrum of activities.

Michelle Poonawalla Receives the Coveted Shiromani Award

  • Michelle Poonawalla, well known artist, businesswoman and philanthropist, from the renowned Poonawalla family received the coveted Shiromani Award from the hands of Mr. G. P. Hinduja, the co-chairman of Hinduja Group at NRI World Summit 2022, United Kingdom for her contribution to the field of Art, she was also a speaker at the prestigious House of Lords, UK. Poonawalla also unveiled her artwork at JMS Foundation Charity Gala Dinner at The Dorchester in London. The NRI Institute celebrated their 33rd anniversary with a two-day gala celebration of achievements, charity, investment opportunities, innovation and business networking. The Poonawalla's were represented by Yohan and Michelle Poonawalla.

Ukrainian Mathematician Maryna Viazovska Wins Prestigious Fields Medal 2022

  • Ukrainian maths professor, Maryna Viazovska, won the top mathematics prize, the Fields Medal 2022. Viazovska and three other mathematicians received the Fields Medal, dubbed the Nobel Prize in maths, in Helsinki after the ceremony was moved from Saint Petersburg to the Finnish capital in response to Moscow's war.
  • Maryna is only the second woman to receive the award, which is awarded to mathematicians under 40, since it was created in 1936. The other female laureate, Iran's Maryam Mirzakhani, died of breast cancer in 2017 just three years after winning the prize.
  • The other three awardees of the prestigious prize are: France's Hugo Duminil-Copin, US-based June Huh and Britain's James Maynard.
  • Fields Medal is the highest honour for a mathematician. The medal is awarded every four years on the occasion of the International Congress of Mathematicians. The Fields Medal is awarded to recognize outstanding mathematical achievement for existing work and for the promise of future achievement. The Fields medal award comprises a gold medal (14 karat gold) bearing the profile of Archimedes and a cash amount.
