Five-day Kuno Forest Festival Concludes in MP

  • A five-day Kuno Forest festival in the village of Ranipura on the outskirts of Sheopur district in Mahdya Pradesh, conclude on December 21. Nestled in the serene atmosphere of the jungle away from the city's hustle and bustle, a forest retreat (tent city) was developed to attract wildlife enthusiasts and tourists.
  • The event aimed to highlight the diverse flora and fauna, and the jungle of Kuno, while also advocating for cheetah conservation. It included local art, craft, folk music, dance forms, and adventure sport.

Three Killed as Wall Collapse at Tunisia's UNESCO World Heritage Site

  • A section of the ancient walls around the old city of Kairouan collapsed, killing three masons carrying out repairs on the UNESCO world heritage site in Tunisia.
  • The city of Kairouan was founded in 670 AD and is one of North Africa's holiest cities.
  • It was the capital of the Muslim world in North Africa for four centuries, before Tunis was chosen as Tunisia's political capital in the 12th century.
  • Kairouan became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988 and is home to the Mosque of the Three Doors, the oldest known mosque with a sculpted facade.
  • UNESCO described the mosque as 'an architectural masterpiece that served as a model for several other Maghreban mosques'.

Israeli Movie Wins Best Film Award at the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival

  • 'Children of Nobody' from Israel, directed by Erez Tadmor, won the Best Film award in the International Competition section of the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival.
  • While the globally acclaimed film got the Rs. 51 lakh prize money along with the Golden Royal Bengal trophy as the award, Carlos Daniele Malave from Venezuela got the Rs. 21 lakh Best Director crown and the same trophy in the same section for his 'One Way'.

Hornbill Festival 2023 Concludes in Nagaland

  • In Nagaland, after a ten-day long fanfare with a cultural extravaganza with performances of 18 cultural troupes from various tribes and communities, the curtain fell on the 24th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2023. The closing ceremony was held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.
  • The 10-day-long annual tourism promotional event of the Nagaland government, Hornbill Festival, concluded with visitors participating in 'Unity Dance' around a large bonfire to the tune of Naga folk songs.
  • Guests including United States Consul General Melinda Pavek, British Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Fleming, Nagaland Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along and Miss Nagaland 2023 Neiketuno Sechü lit the bonfire to mark the closing of the 24th edition of the festival at the picturesque Naga Heritage Village at Kisama.
  • The Hornbill Festival is an annual festival celebrated from December 1 to 10 in the North-eastern Indian state of Nagaland. The festival represents all ethnic groups of Nagaland for which it is also called the 'Festival of Festivals'.
  • To encourage inter-ethnic interaction and to promote cultural heritage of Nagaland, the Government of Nagaland organises the Hornbill Festival every year in the first week of December. The first festival was held in December 2000.

  • The primary objective of MGMD is to make the wealth of information about Indian villages accessible to both virtual and real-time visitors.
  • This aligns with the broader goals of the National Mission on Cultural Mapping, reflecting the government's commitment to document and map the cultural diversity inherent in villages across the country.
