Kannada Actor Puneeth Rajkumar Dies

  • Leading Kannada actor, Puneeth Rajkumar, the youngest son of Kannada cinema's biggest star Dr. Rajkumar, died. 
  • Puneeth was 46 years old and was dubbed the "power star" of Kannada cinema.
  • Puneeth made his debut on screen with his father when he was just six months old and he went on to win a national award as a child artist. He took a break only to re-emerge as a lead actor in 2002 and went on to star in 29 films as a lead actor, delivering some of the biggest hits in recent years.

Doyen of Cancer Treatment in India Krishnan Nair Passes Away

  • One of the tallest figures in the country in cancer treatment, M. Krishnan Nair passed away. He was 81. M. Krishnan Nair was an Indian oncologist.
  • He is credited for starting the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram and went on to be its first director, a post he held for numerous years, before retiring.
  • Nair was awarded the Padma Shri for his services to the nation in cancer treatment, and was an advisor to the World Health Organization on the same topic.

Legendary Australian All-rounder Alan Davidson Dies

  • Alan Davidson, the first player to score 100 runs and take 10 wickets in a single Test match, died at the age of 92.
  • The New South Wales all-rounder, a left-arm swing bowler who claimed 186 wickets and scored 1328 runs during his career, played in 44 Tests for Australia and was inducted into the International Cricket Council's Hall of Fame in 2011.

Former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo Passes Away

  • Former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo, a major player in a 1979 coup who later became President in a landmark democratic election before ending his tumultuous political career in prison, died in the capital of Seoul. He was 88.
  • Roh ruled South Korea as President from 1988-1993.
  • During his five-year term, Roh aggressively pursued ties with communist nations under his "Northward Diplomacy" as communism fell in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union dissolved.

First Ecuadorian to Win Global Medal Shot Dead

  • Ecuadorian sprinter Alex Quiñónez was fatally shot in the port city of Guayaquil.
  • Quiñónez, who was 32, became a national hero in 2012 when he reached the 200-metre final at the London Games, finishing seventh in a race won by Usain Bolt.
  • Then in 2019 he became the first Ecuadorian athlete to win a global medal in a track event when he finished third at the World Championships in Doha.

Colin Powell, First Black US Secretary of State, Passes Away

  • Colin Powell, the trailblazing soldier and diplomat whose sterling reputation of service to Republican and Democratic presidents was stained by his faulty claims to justify the 2003 US war in Iraq, died of Covid-19 complications. He was 84. He instead joined President George W. Bush's administration in 2001 as secretary of state. He was the first Black person to represent the US government on the world stage.

  • With Padukone joining Adidas' powerful roster of women athletes and partners around the globe, Adidas strengthens its focus on democratizing and diversifying sport for women through inspiring personalities.
  • Padukone joins an already dense line-up of female brand ambassadors associated with Adidas in India—including weightlifting heavyweight Mirabai Chanu; boxers Lovlina Borgohain, Nikhat Zareen and Simranjeet Kaur; sprinter Hima Das, and squash player Dipika Pallikal.
