Digvijay Diwas

India celebrates Digvijay Diwas every year on September 11, honouring the legacy of Swami Vivekananda and commemorating his historic speech at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. This day is a tribute to Vivekananda's influential address, which introduced Indian spirituality and the philosophy of Vedanta to a global audience.
Digvijay Diwas 2024 marks 131 years since Swami Vivekananda's speech that profoundly impacted the world's understanding of India's religious and cultural heritage. Various events, lectures, and discussions are held across the country to honour his message of universal brotherhood, tolerance, and religious harmony.
The significance of September 11, 1893 lies in Swami Vivekananda's opening speech at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago, where he greeted the audience with the now-iconic words, "Sisters and Brothers of America." This simple yet powerful phrase earned him a standing ovation and established him as a global ambassador of Indian culture and spirituality.

9/11 Remembrance Day

September 11, also known as Patriot Day, is a national day of service and remembrance in the United States. It is observed to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. This day is also known as the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance or 9/11 Day.
The country pays tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who died in the attack on the World Trade Centre, the Pentagon and the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.

National Forest Martyrs Day

National Forest Martyrs Day is celebrated every year on September 11 in India to pay tribute to those who died for the protection of the forest and wildlife of the country. The day honours protective environmentalists and personnel of the forest who have experienced certain risks in the process of conservation of natural resources.
The day goes back to the memory of the Khejarli Massacre, which took place in 1730 in the Marwar Kingdom. The then Maharaja Abhai Singh demanded Khejri trees from the Bishnoi village of Khejarli to be cut down to provide timber for his new palace.
However, his action was resisted by the Bishnoi community, which has always been very sensitive towards the natural community.
Villagers under the leadership of Amrita Devi Bishnoi protested by hugging trees to safeguard them. Unfortunately, Devi and many other members of the village were slain while defending the trees. It was estimated that 363 of them died while protesting.
In recognition of this sacrifice, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India declared September 11 as the National Forest Martyrs Day in 2013.
The theme for National Forest Martyrs Day 2024 focuses on 'Honouring the Sacrifices of those who Defended Forests and Wildlife'.

World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day is observed each year on September 10 to raise awareness about suicide prevention and attempts. The day was established in 2003 through the combined efforts of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 Theme is 'Changing the Narrative on Suicide'. This theme is to indicate that there is an alternative to suicide and aims to gain confidence.

International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day (ILD) is celebrated every year on September 8. The day is dedicated to create awareness, and educate people about the significance of literacy for developing a literate, intellectual, and sustainable society.
The roots of International Literacy Day trace back to the World Conference of Ministers of Education on the Eradication of Illiteracy, held in Tehran, Iran, in 1965. This conference sparked the idea of a day dedicated to promoting literacy on a global scale. Subsequently, UNESCO officially declared September 8 as International Literacy Day during its 14th General Conference in 1966. In 1967 the world celebrated this special day for the first time, marking the beginning of a significant global observance.

World Physiotherapy Day

World Physiotherapy Day (World PT Day) is a global healthcare event celebrated on the 8th of September every year since 1996, commemorating the date of the World Physiotherapy foundation in 1951.
This day serves as a homage to all the physiotherapists and the services they render, achieving the ultimate goal of a symptom-free movement at basic to complex physical activities in patients and the healthy alike.
The 8th of September was declared as the World Physiotherapy Day in 1996 by the global organisation, World Physiotherapy. Established on the 8th of September 1951 in the United Kingdom, World Physiotherapy is a non-profit organisation currently representing more than 6,00,000 physiotherapists globally, encompassing 127 member organisations.
This year, 2024, the World Physiotherapy Day Theme is 'low back pain (LBP) and the role of physiotherapy in its management and prevention'. This theme is not just about addressing a common health issue; it's about empowering people to take proactive steps in managing their health.

Brazilian Independence Day

Brazilian Independence Day is a national holiday celebrated on September 7 to commemorate the declaration of independence of Brazil from Portugal in 1822. The day is a public holiday in Brazil and is marked by parades, festivals, and other celebrations.
The history of Brazilian Independence Day dates back to the early 19th century when Portugal was ruled by a tyrannical king, Dom Pedro I. In 1808, Dom Pedro I fled Portugal to Brazil to escape the Napoleonic Wars.
He remained in Brazil for the next 14 years, during which he became increasingly popular with the Brazilian people.
In 1822, Dom Pedro I declared Brazil's independence from Portugal. The declaration was met with widespread celebration, and Brazil became an independent nation.
