Government to Soon Notify the New National Broadcasting Policy
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is in the process of coming up with a Draft National Broadcast Policy and consultations on the AVGC Policy too will be held very soon, said Neerja Shekar, Additional Secretary (Broadcasting) & CVO, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in her address at 9th CII BIG Picture Summit.
Consultations on the National Broadcasting Policy were held with the stakeholders and by the industry some time back.

Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act
The Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act are two landmark legislations from the European Union. The draft legislation gives specific regulations to limit the powers of global internet companies like Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon in the European market. Under the legislation, the larger firms are designated as digital gatekeepers and would be subject to stricter regulations. Violation of competition rules could invite as much as 10% of the firm's annual turnover.
Digital Services Act aims to create uniform framework throughout the European Union in handling potentially harmful content online, protection of users' fundamental rights online, liability of online intermediaries for third party content and bridging the information asymmetries between online intermediaries and their users.
The Digital Markets Act addresses the digital market imbalances in the European Union.
Digital market act is applicable only to provider of core platform services. This includes social networking services, search engines, operating systems and online intermediation services.

Gujarat Enforces Anti-land Grab Law
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that a stringent anti-land grabbing law with a provision of a minimum of 10 years imprisonment, which can go up to 14 years, for violators has come into force across the state.
The Gujarat Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act, passed in the last session of the state Assembly, has been framed to ensure time-bound and speedy disposal of complaints and protect the interests of farmers and common man.
Under the provisions of the Act, anyone who illegally grabs land, provides money for construction, threatens the owner, extorts rent, or helps in any such activity will fall under the definition of land grabber. A commercial company, a group of people or a religious or charity organisation can also be held as accused.

Government All Set to Launch 'Brand India' Mission
The government is all set to launch a 'Brand India' mission, focused on the promotion of quality products that are manufactured in the country.
The move, being piloted by the Piyush Goyal-led commerce and industry ministry, is based on similar policies in other countries, including the US, Switzerland, Germany and France, which regulate claims made to goods produced in their jurisdiction.

Parliament Nod Awaited for Valuers Bill
According to Institution of Value (IOV), the profession of valuers would be standardised once the draft Valuers Bill is enacted by the Parliament.
The Bill is in circulation to get suggestions and opinions from the stakeholders and general public after which it would be placed before both Houses of Parliament.
On the basis of a committee's recommendation formed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the Bill is exploring to establish a National Institute of Valuers (NIV).
The NIV would serve the purpose of developing the profession of valuers and regulating the market of valuation service, he said at the sidelines of the two-day 51st Indian Valuers Conference 2020.
