Assam CM Launches Scheme for Welfare of Native Weavers

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched 'Swanirbhar Naari', a scheme to empower indigenous weavers in Assam's Guwahati.
Under the 'Swanirbhar Naari' scheme, the state government would procure handloom items directly from the indigenous weavers via a web portal.
As per Sarma, the scheme would help preserve the heritage of handlooms and textiles.

Bill to Amend Family Courts Act Introduced in Lok Sabha

A bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha which seeks to amend Family Courts Act to provide for establishing family courts in Himachal Pradesh from February 15, 2019, and in Nagaland from September 12, 2008.
The bill was introduced by Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.
The Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was brought with the objective of overcoming the issue of lack of jurisdiction of family courts in the states of Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
The Family Courts Act 1984 was enacted for establishing family courts with a view to promote conciliation and secure speedy settlement of disputes relating to marriage and family affairs.
The Act came into force on September 14, 1984 and as of April 2022, there were 715 family courts established and functioning in 26 states and union territories, including three such courts in Himachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

Centre Revives Bill to Regulate Registration of Digital News Media

The central government is preparing a bill for a new registration regime for newspapers that will also include the digital news media industry, which currently is not included in the Centre's registration framework.
The government will propose the Registration of Press and Periodicals Bill, 2019, with the changes before the Cabinet soon. The new bill will replace the colonial-era Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867, which currently regulates the newspaper and printing press industry in India.
If the bill is passed, digital news websites operating in India will come on par with newspapers, and they will have to register themselves with the Press Registrar General, equivalent to the prevalent Registrar of Newspapers in India.

Jharkahand Cabinet Approves Old Pension Scheme

The Jharkhand cabinet approved the proposals for the implementation of the old pension scheme with certain conditions and 100 units of free electricity every month for the poor.
For the implementation of the old pension scheme, a three-member committee headed the by Development Commissioner will be set up.
The committee will draft a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the implementation of the scheme. It will be brought to the cabinet for approval.
The old pension scheme was discontinued on April 1, 2004, and replaced by the National Pension System (NPS).

Women and Child Development Ministry Issues Guidelines for Mission Shakti Scheme

Women and Child Development Ministry issued guidelines for Mission Shakti Scheme. This scheme was launched for the safety, security and empowerment of women. It seeks to realise the government's commitment to women-led development by making them equal partners in nation-building. The key objectives of the mission are to provide care, support and assistance to women and to put in place quality mechanisms for the rescue, protection and rehabilitation of women who are victims of crime and violence. The scheme is also aimed at improving accessibility to various government services available for women at various levels.
Mission Shakti has two sub-schemes - Sambal and Samarthya. While the Sambal stresses on safety and security of women, the Samarthya focuses on the empowerment of women. The components of the Sambal sub-scheme consist of schemes including One Stop Centre, Women Helpline, Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Nari Adalats. The components of the Samarthya sub-scheme consist of schemes of Ujjwala, Swadhar Greh and Working Women Hostel. In addition, the existing schemes of the National Creche Scheme for children of working mothers and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana have now been included in Samarthya.

New Delhi SAH-BHAGITA' Scheme

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena launched a SAH-BHAGITA scheme to increase the involvement of the Residential Welfare Association (RWAs) in optimal tax collection and waste management systems.
Under this scheme, the RWAs will be incentivised for their efforts to improve efficiency and compliance in tax collection. The RWAs, on achieving 90% tax collection from the total number of properties in their societies, can recommend development work to the tune of 10% of the tax collection subject to a ceiling of Rs. 1 lakh in their areas.
