Uttarakhand Women Reservation Bill

  • Governor of Uttarakhand Lt. Gen (retd) Gurmit Singh gave the nod to a Bill that gives 30% reservation to the native women of the state.
  • With the Governor's nod to Uttarakhand Public Services (Horizontal Reservation for Women) Bill, 2022, the women candidates with Uttarakhand State domicile got the legal right of 30% reservation in public services and posts.
  • As per reports, the government took over a month's time to give the nod to the women reservation Bill. "The Governor got the Bill examined by legal experts before approving it.

Uttarakhand CM Inaugurates 26 Schemes Worth Rs. 306 crore

  • Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated 26 schemes worth Rs. 30,606.75 lakh, including the Gadarpur and Khatima bypass, a long-pending demand of residents.
  • Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari virtually addressed the event held at Pahenia Bypass in Khatima.
  • Dhami said that work will soon start on the 4-lane project from Tanakpur to Sitarganj and from Pilibhit to Khatima, important stretches on the route to Kailash Mansarovar. India and Nepal are jointly constructing a road to connect the two countries.

MP Govt. Launched Chief Minister's Residential Land Rights Scheme

  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the Madhya Pradesh Residential Land Rights scheme (Mukhyamantri Awasiya Bhu Adhikar Yojana) and distributed free leases of residential land to selected beneficiaries. The scheme aims to provide free plots to the poor living in rural areas for building their houses. The land is offered completely free of cost and along with the plot, the benefits of all other schemes will also be delivered.
  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also gave land rights letters to the eligible beneficiaries of this scheme.
  • The plots worth about Rs. 129 crore were distributed to 10,918 families in the Tikamgarh district under the scheme.

Gujarat Bill Empowering Police to Book Protesters Gets President Nod

  • President Droupadi Murmu gave her assent to a Bill passed by the Gujarat Assembly, empowering the police to register cases against persons who stage protests in violation of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
  • The Code of Criminal Procedure (Gujarat Amendment) Bill, 2021, passed by the state Assembly in March 2022, is stipulated to make any violation of prohibitory orders issued under Section 144, CrPC, a cognisable offence under Section 188 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
  • It amends Section 195 of the CrPC, which states that no court shall take cognisance of any criminal conspiracy for contempt of the lawful authority of public servants except on the complaint in writing of the public servant concerned.

CCEA Approves BIND Scheme for Modernising Doordarshan, AIR

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved a scheme worth Rs. 2,539.61 crore for Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR), in a boost to public sector broadcasting in the country.
  • The investment, announced under the Central Sector 'Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND)' scheme, will be up to 2025-26 and will aim to modernise the two entities run by Prasar Bharati. It is also the largest investment outlay by the government for the two public broadcasters under the BIND scheme.
  • The BIND scheme is the vehicle for providing financial support to Prasar Bharati for expenses related to expansion and upgrade of its broadcasting infrastructure, content development and civil work related to the organisation.

Mamata Banerjee Launches 'Didir Suraksha Kawach' and 'Didir Doot'

  • Ahead of the panchayat elections this year (2023), Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched two initiatives – 'Didir Suraksha Kawach' and 'Didir Doot' — in Nazrul Manch Kolkata.
  • The programme, 'Didir Suraksha Kawach' or 'Didi's Protective Shield', aims to be a welfare umbrella for the people of West Bengal. It will see nearly 3.5 lakh party workers visit around two crore households (covering the state's 10 crore population) over the next two months, completing the exercise just before the panchayat polls come around.
  • The app, 'Didir Doot', can be downloaded by anyone to register their problems. The app will be used in conjunction with the 'Didir Suraksha Kawach' programme, with booth workers encouraging people to download it and register their issues.
