Govt. Launches Scheme for Modernisation of Fire Services in States

  • The Centre launched a scheme for the modernisation of fire services in all states with a total outlay of Rs. 5,000 crore under the National Disaster Response Fund.
  • A letter in this regard was sent to the chief secretaries and heads of fire services of the states.
  • To seek funds under the scheme, the state governments shall have to contribute 25 per cent (except for North-eastern and Himalayan states which shall contribute 10 per cent) of the total cost of the projects from their budgetary resources.
  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the scheme while chairing a meeting with the Ministers of Disaster Management of states and Union Territories.

Rajasthan to Bring Bill Provisioning Life Imprisonment to Curb Recruitment Exam Paper Leaks

  • The Rajasthan government will bring a Bill in the next assembly session to increase the punishment for those involved in recruitment exam paper leaks from the current 10 years to life imprisonment, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said.
  • In March 2022, the assembly passed a Bill providing for imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of Rs. 10 crore for offences such as government exam paper leaks and cheating in such recruitment tests. This came a month after the REET level-two examination held in September 2021 was cancelled due to a paper leak.

Central Scheme for Minors Abandoned By Family Due to Pregnancy from Rape

  • The centre launched a scheme to provide shelter, food and legal aid to minors who have been abandoned by their families due to pregnancy from rape.
  • Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said that the new scheme, launched under the aegis of the Nirbhaya scheme, is aimed at ensuring both infrastructural and financial support for pregnant minor survivors who have no means to fend for themselves.
  • Launched in 2021, Mission Vatsalya is focused on the protection and welfare of children.
  • Irani said that this additional support under the new scheme will be available for girls up to the age of 18 years at the level of child care institutions (CCI) and for women up to 23 years at aftercare facilities.
  • The new scheme covers minor girls who are victims of penetrative sexual assault and aggravated penetrative sexual assault.

Centre Approves Schemes for Farmers

  • The Union Cabinet approved a total outlay of Rs. 3.70 lakh crore aimed at benefitting farmers through schemes.
  • Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that the package has different components that are focused on the well-being and economic betterment of farmers by promoting sustainable agriculture.
  • The cabinet has approved the Urea Subsidy Scheme to ensure constant availability of urea to the farmers at the same price of Rs. 242/45 kg bag excluding taxes and neam coating charges.
  • Furthermore, he discussed the approval of the PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness Generation, Nourishment, and Amelioration of Mother Earth (PMPRANAM) as another aspect of the scheme.

Government Releases Draft Rules for India's 'Green Credit' Scheme to Encourage Voluntary Environm...

  • The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) notified the draft 'Green Credit Programme (GCP)' implementation rules for 2023. The proposed scheme aims to encourage individuals, industries, farmers producers organisations (FPOs), urban local bodies (ULB), gram panchayats, and private sectors, among others, to undertake environment-friendly actions such as planting trees, conserving water, waste management, and reducing air pollution. By participating in these activities, entities can earn tradable "green credits" that will be incentivized through a market-based mechanism.
  • The primary objective of the Green Credit Programme is to incentivize voluntary environmental actions across various sectors. By offering tradable green credits, the government seeks to motivate entities to actively engage in sustainable practices and contribute to ecological conservation. Through this scheme, individuals and organizations will be able to earn credits based on the extent of their environment-friendly initiatives.

Tamil Nadu Launches Scheme to Provide Cardiac Drugs through Over 10,000 Primary-level Health Faci...

  • Health Minister Ma. Subramanian launched a scheme to provide life-saving emergency loading dose, through over 10,000 primary level health facilities, to persons who experience symptoms of myocardial infarction or heart attack.
  • Under the scheme, launched at Malumichampatti village in Coimbatore district, the government will make life-saving cardiac drugs available at 8,713 health sub-centres (HSCs) and 2,200 primary health centres (PHCs) and urban primary health centres (UPHCs) across Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 3.37 crore.
