Railways Install First Plastic Bottle Crushing Machine

The Western Railway for the first time has installed a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle crushing machine in Mumbai Rajdhani Express.
This machine can crush up to 3,000 bottles per day. The PET bottle crusher machine was installed in the train as part of the Indian Railways' Swachh Bharat and Go Green missions and ties in with an impending ban of single-use plastic by the Centre.
The move by the Western Railway of installing a PET bottle crushing machine is expected to reduce carbon footprints by 100 per cent recycling and will also avoid littering in landfill from bottle waste.

Indian Railways Launches Massive Shramdaan Across The Country

Chairman Railway Board, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav participated in Shramdaan at New Delhi Railway Station.
As part of Swachhta Pakhwara, a massive Shramdaan was carried out by Railways throughout Indian Railway premises.
Charitable Organizations like SNCF and others also participated in Shramdaan.
A Swachhta pledge and a pledge of curbing single use plastic was administered to all present.
Cloth bags to be used as replacement to plastic bags were also distributed to passengers and stall owners.

Aleph Hospitality Signs Franchise Agreement for New Protea Hotel By Marriott

Dynamic independent hotel management company Aleph Hospitality has signed a franchise agreement with global hotelier Marriott International for a new Protea Hotels by Marriott hotel in Kisumu, Kenya.
On behalf of the hotel owner, Bluewater Hotels, Aleph Hospitality will operate the new-build property under the Protea Hotels by Marriott brand.

Tripura Tourism Dept to Construct Replicas Of 51 Shaktipeeths

With an aim to boost tourism in Tripura, the state government has decided to construct 51 temples, which would be replicas of the 51 Shaktipeeths and has also started a helicopter service to Devatamura and Unnakoti hills, famous for huge-rock cut sculptures.
The state government has already allocated 14.22 acres of land for construction of replicas of Shaktipeeths at Fulkumari in Gomati district, about 3-km away from the Tripuresari temple, a famous temple and one of the 51 Shaktipeeths.

Seychelles Tourism Board Enhances Presence in Tier II and Tier III Cities

Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) participated in the Global Panorama Showcase 2019 (GPS), a premier business networking event in order to reach out to tour operators beyond metro cities of India.
Out of eight cities where the event took place, 2019's STB shortlisted Hyderabad, Lucknow and Kolkata to educate and network with the travel trade.
Seychelles Tourism Board conducted various workshops across India, however, participating in GPS helped widen the base of interaction with agents from tier II and tier III cities that have the potential and interest in Seychelles.

Railways Removes Flexi-Fare From Humsafar Trains

Railways has removed the flexi-fare scheme from its premium Humsafar trains and has also decided to introduce sleeper class coaches.
The relief will be applicable to 35 pairs of Humsafar trains, which currently have only AC 3-tier classes.
The tatkal ticket fares of the Humsafar trains have also been decreased. They will now cost 1.3 times of the base fare, instead of 1.5 times.

Railways To Help Recharge Phones Of Passengers Using Plastic Bottle Crushers

The railways will install 400 bottle-crushing machines at stations, in which a passenger wanting to use them will have to key in his phone number into the machine and his phone will be recharged
Railways will help recharge phones of passengers if they use plastic bottle crushing machines installed at stations in a bid to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative to junk single use plastic.
In his Independence Day speech, Mr. Modi had appealed to the nation to eliminate single-use plastic and find alternatives to plastic water bottles on a priority basis.
Railways have issued directions that from October 2, 2019, single-use plastic will not be used on its premises.
