Air India Becomes First Airline In World To Use Taxibot on A-320 aircraft

Air India has become the first airline in the world to use a Taxibot on an A-320 aircraft with passengers on board.
Taxibot is a robot-used aircraft tractor for taxiing an aircraft from parking bay to runway and vice-versa. Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani flagged off flight AI665 and it was carried to runway using Taxibot at Terminal 3 of the Delhi Airport - to Mumbai. It is a pilot-controlled semi-robotic towbar-less aircraft tractor used as alternate taxiing equipment.
Mr Lohani said it is the first such usage on any Airbus aircraft worldwide. It is a giant step forward towards a cleaner environment.
It will bring down the consumption of fuel by 85 per cent and reduce engine wear and tear. The ignition will be turned on only when the aircraft reaches the runway.

Railways To Be 'Net Zero' Carbon Emitter By 2030

As part of India's strategy to combat climate change, Indian Railways will become "net zero" carbon emitter by 2030.
India is the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases after the US and China, and is among countries most vulnerable to climate change.
Meanwhile, the national carrier has a rail network of around 125,000km, making it the world's largest railway network under a single management. It also has large tracts of land along its network, which will be used to set up solar power generation capacities.
As the country prepares to curb pollution and cut its dependence on foreign oil, India has become one of the top renewable energy producers globally with ambitious capacity expansion plans.
The country has an installed renewable energy capacity of about 80 gigawatts (GW) and is running the world's largest renewable energy programme, with plans to achieve 175GW by 2022 and 500GW by 2030, as part of its climate commitments.

Qantas Airways To Embark On World's First 20-Hour Airline Flight

Fresh insight into the physical and emotional toll of ultra-long haul travel should emerge when Qantas Airways Ltd. flies direct from New York to Sydney.
No airline has ever completed that route without stopping. At nearly 20 hours, it's set to be the world's longest flight, leaving the U.S. and landing in Australia.
This will be more than an endurance exercise. Scientists and medical researchers in the cabin will turn Qantas's brand-new Boeing Co. Dreamliner into a high-altitude laboratory.
They'll screen the brains of the pilots for alertness, while monitoring the food, sleep and activity of the few dozen passengers.
The aim is to see how humans hold up to the ordeal.

Railways to launch new Sewa Express trains from Delhi, Coimbatore, Bengaluru

In a big stride towards achieving last-mile connectivity for people travelling between small towns and major cities, the Indian Railways will launch 10 'Sewa Service' trains on 15th October.
Out of these, 5 trains will run on a daily basis, whereas the rest of them will have 6 days a week service.
The Ministry of Railways had recently approved 10 trains under its 'Sewa service' initiative for better connectivity between smaller towns and important cities.
The Ministry of Railways has decided to introduce daily Sewa Express trains between Delhi and Shamli, Bhubaneswar and Nayagarh town, Murkongselex and Dibrugarh, Kota and Jhalawar City and Coimbatore and Palani.
It will run as a daily train with effect from October 15, 2019. Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal will start the 'Sewa Service' trains by inaugurating Delhi-Shamli daily passenger train from New Delhi. He will also flag off other trains through video-conferencing.

Direct Flights From Sri Lanka's Jaffna To Several Indian Cities Soon

Sri Lanka's domestic military airport in the Tamil-dominated northern Jaffna peninsula has been upgraded from where direct international flights will be operated to several southern Indian cities from October, 2019.
The Ministry of Aviation said that the Palaly Airport was converted into an international airport following the work which commenced in July, 2019. It will be formally declared as an international airport on October 17, 2019.
The regional flights operations service from Palaly to Indian destinations and the Maldives is expected to commence from October 15, 2019 with the completion of the first phase of the development.
Out of the total cost of investment of rupees 2,250 million, the government was to allocate rupees 1,950 million while the Indian assistance will provide 300 million rupees.

India Relaxes e-Visa Policy For Chinese Nationals

India has announced significant relaxations in its e-visa policy for Chinese nationals, the Indian embassy in Beijing said, at a time when the leaders of the two nations had met for the second informal summit.
October 2019 onwards, Chinese nationals can apply for an e-Tourist visa (e-TV) of a 5-year validity with multiple entries. The visa fee for this 5-year multiple entry e-TV will be USD 80.
Furthermore, it has been decided that the prospective tourists can avail of single-entry 30-day validity e-TV at a reduced visa fee of USD 25, while for a 30-day e-TV during the months of April to June, the visa fee will be only USD 10.

Railway Passengers Can Register Criminal Complaints Online

Indian railway has launched a new website and mobile app to facilitate the passengers and railway police to file and address complaints across India. Railways already has a dedicated complaint website and app RailMadad for general grievances but this new service will help passengers to register criminal complaints.
The new website www.railways.delhipolice.gov.in and the mobile app Sahyatri will have the country-wide data of criminals, including their photographs, active in railways' jurisdiction all over India.
Information on unidentified dead body found, missing persons, wanted criminals, absconding/proclaimed offenders, other important law and order related issues would be shared among authorised GRP officers through this service.
