Fernando Ricksen: Ex-Rangers Player Dies Aged 43

Former Rangers player Fernando Ricksen has passed away at the age of 43 following a battle with motor neuron disease.
Ricksen, who won 12 caps for the Dutch national team, had been battling the disease for six years after being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in October 2013.
The former defender spent six years at the Glasgow club, where he won the domestic cup double in 2002 and the treble in 2003.

Ex-PTI Correspondent B R Vats Passes Away

Bhagat Ram Vats, a former PTI senior correspondent who travelled extensively with first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and covered the country's maiden Lok Sabha polls, passed away on at the age of 97.
He started his career with The Statesman, New Delhi, and later joined the Press Trust of India. Vats travelled with Nehru for 14 years, covering his activities in India and abroad, especially his election tours in 1952, 1957 and 1962.
He spearheaded the opening of the PTI bureau in Moscow in the early 1960s.
For half a decade, Vats reported from the erstwhile USSR and was given a lifelong Russian press accreditation.
He authored a book -- 'Foreign Intrigue Against India' -- on different aspects of the country's Partition and its neighbours.

Madhukar Kamath Elected Chairman of Audit Bureau Of Circulations

Madhukar Kamath, chairman emeritus of DDB Mudra group and mentor of Interbrand India, has been elected chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for 2019-20.
Kamath has also been the president of Advertising Agencies Association of India.

RKS Bhadauria Appointed as IAF Chief

The Modi government appointed Bhadauria as the next Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief. He was scheduled to retire on September 30, 2019, the day the incumbent Chief Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa also superannuates.
Bhadauria will take over after Dhanoa retires. Services chiefs have a tenure either for three years or until 62 years of age, whichever comes first.
The chairman of the Indian negotiating team for the 36 Rafale jets deal with France, Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria, the current Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force, will take over its reins by the end of September, 2019.
Bhadauria has played a major role in the indigenous Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme.

Film-Maker Shyam Ramsay Passes Away At 67

Director Shyam Ramsay, one of the seven Ramsay brothers, passed away. He was 67.
The film-maker, known for cult horror films, was suffering from pneumonia and had been admitted in a hospital in Mumbai where he died. He is survived by two daughters Sasha and Namrata.
Born on May 17, 1952, he directed over 30 films including 'Bandh Darwaza', 'Veerana'. He was also known for the TV series 'Zee Horror Show'.
The Ramsay Brothers were synonymous with horror films in Bollywood, having made a number of successful movies in that genre in the 1970s and 1980s.

Tunisia's Ousted Ex-President Dies in Exile Aged 83

Tunisia's former President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali has died in exile aged 83.
Ben Ali led the country for 23 years and was credited with delivering stability and some economic prosperity.
But he received widespread criticism for suppressing political freedoms and for widespread corruption.
In 2011, he was forced from office following mass street protests. This triggered a wave of similar uprisings across the Arab world.
At least half a dozen countries in the region saw their president fall or conflicts break out in the wake of the former Tunisian leader's downfall, in what became known as the Arab Spring.

US To Be Represented By a Junior Official At UN Climate Summit

As world leaders head to New York for a climate summit called by the United Nations, the United States will be represented by a junior official.
Marcia Bernicat, the principal deputy assistant secretary of state for oceans and international environmental and scientific affairs, will represent the United States at the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit.

Trump Names Robert O'Brien as National Security Adviser

President Trump named Robert C. O'Brien as his new national security adviser, picking a top hostage-affairs official for the high-profile White House role at a time when the U.S. is weighing how to respond to attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Mr. O'Brien succeeds John Bolton, who departed the administration amid differences with Mr. Trump and other top advisers.
Mr. O'Brien, who currently serves as special envoy for hostage affairs at the State Department, will be Mr. Trump's fourth national security adviser. He also served under the George W. Bush administration at the State Department and the U.S. mission to the U.N.

ADB's President Resigns

Asian Development Bank's President Takehiko Nakao has announced his resignation which will be effective from January 16, 2020.
He became the President of ADB on April 28, 2013.
The new president will be elected in accordance with an open, transparent and merit-based procedure.

Farooq Abdullah Booked Under PSA

Jammu and Kashmir administration booked National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah under Public Safety Act (PSA) to maintain law and order.
Dr Abdullah is currently detained at his residence in Srinagar. Officials said the residence has been converted into and designated as a sub-jail, with security arrangements by Special Services Group.

Mayank Vaid Becomes First Indian To Complete Enduroman Triathlon

Mayank Vaid has become the 44th person in the world and the first Indian to finish the Enduroman, considered one of the toughest endurance competitions in the world.
Remarkably, Vaid also broke the record for the shortest time in which the triathlon has been completed.
The triathlon starts with a 140 km run from London's Marble Arch to Dover on the Kent coast, then a cross-Channel swim (shortest distance 33.8 km) to the French coast, and finishes with a 289.7 km bike ride from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Journalist Ajay Kumar Singh Is New Press Secretary To President Ram Nath Kovind

Political journalist Ajay Kumar Singh was appointed as the Press Secretary to President Ram Nath Kovind. Singh, 55, is currently associated with the Firstpost as a contributor.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the appointment of Singh as Press Secretary to the President on contract basis initially for a period of one year or until further orders.
He succeeds Ashok Malik, whose term ended in July 2019.
Singh started his career with the Times of India in 1985 (Lucknow) and worked in the Economic Times and the Telegraph. He later joined the Pioneer in Delhi.
