LT. GN. Naravane Next Army Chief

Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Naravane will take over as the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS) when General Bipin Rawat's term ends on December 31, 2019. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared Naravane's appointment as Army Chief. The government, however, did not make any official announcement.
There has been no announcement so far on India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) that was expected this month (December 2019) along with the appointment of the new Army Chief.

AirAsia Appoints Ankur Garg

AirAsia India appointed Ankur Garg as its Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), a role in which he will be in-charge of areas such as network and revenue management, marketing and sales, and cargo.
Garg had quit as the vice-president of revenue management at IndiGo.
Ankur Garg takes over from Mr. Sanjay Kumar, AirAsia India's Chief Operation Officer (COO). Garg will report to Sunil Bhaskaran, MD and CEO, AirAsia India.

Actor Gita Siddharth Kak Dies

Actress Gita Siddharth Kak died in December 2019 in Mumbai.
The actress is best known for her role in M.S. Sathyu's 1973 classic "Garm Hawa". While Sathyu's effort won a National Award as Best Feature Film on National Integration, she received a souvenir at the ceremony for her role of Amina in the film.
Gita made her debut in Gulzar's 1972 film, "Parichay", starring Jeetendra and Jaya Bhaduri. She was a familiar face on the Bollywood screen of the seventies and eighties, featuring in films such as "Sholay", "Trishul", "Disco Dancer", "Ram Teri Ganga Maili", "Noorie, "Desh Premee", "Dance Dance", "Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki", "Shaukeen", "Arth", aceMandi", "Ek Chadar Maili Si", "Gaman" and "Doosra Aadmi".

Former Union Minister ID Swami Dies

Former Union Minister ID Swami passed away at the age of 90 in Faridabad, Haryana.
He was suffering from heart disease and was admitted to the hospital in Faridabad.
Swami was Union Minister of State for Home Affairs in 1999 in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government.
The BJP leader was two times Lok Sabha member from Karnal in Haryana.
Swami was born on August 11, 1929, at Babyal in Ambala district.

Modi Chairs First Meeting of Ganga Council

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the first meeting of the National Ganga Council in Kanpur. The council was constituted in 2016 to oversee the cleaning of the Ganga and is supposed to meet at least once a year with the Prime Minister chairing the session.
The meeting was also attended by Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and several Union Ministers— all Ganga basin States were also present.
Modi also reviewed the progress of works under the ambitious Namami Gange project in the stretch of the river that is considered the most polluted, and deliberated on various aspects of cleaning the river with focus on 'swachhta', 'aviralta' and 'nirmalta'.

Anna Karina Dies

Anna Karina, an icon of French New Wave cinema, died at the age of 79.
The Danish-French actress died in a hospital in Paris after living with cancer.
Karina rose to prominence as the muse of her director ex-husband Jean-Luc Godard in the 1960s.
She got her big break as a teenager, soon after moving to Paris from her native Denmark, when she was spotted by Godard.
In 1961, she and Godard got married - and just months later, Karina won best actress at the Berlin Film Festival for Godard's A Woman is a Woman.

Nirmala Sitharaman Among World's 100 most Powerful Women

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was ranked as the 34th most powerful woman in the world on Forbes's 'The World's 100 Most Powerful Women' list, 2019 leaving behind Queen Elizabeth II who is placed on the 40th spot and US President Donald Trump's daughter and advisor Ivanka Trump, who is on the 42nd spot.
Nirmala Sitharaman was placed ahead of New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. The ranking of the Finance Minister ahead of some of the most noteworthy personalities of the world depicts India's rising power globally.

Dushyant Dave Elected Supreme Court Bar President

Senior advocate Dushyant Dave won the election to the post of president of the executive committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association beating his nearest rival, senior advocate Vikas Singh.
This would be Dave's third stint as bar president of the top court. He had first served as president in 2014-15 and was re-elected to the post in 2015-16.
Advocate Kailash Vasdev was elected Vice President. He defeated senior advocates V Shekhar and Pradeep Rai.
