JNCASR Scientists Develop A Natural Product Based Alzheimer Inhibitor

  • Scientists from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre For Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India have modified the structure of Berberine, a natural and cheap product similar to curcumin, available commercially, into Ber-D to use as a Alzheimer's inhibitor. Their research work has been published in the scientific journal iSceince.
  • Alzheimer's disease is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder and accounts for more than 70% of all dementia. The multifactorial nature of the disease attributed to multifaceted toxicity has made it difficult for researchers to develop effective medication.

  • Muslims observed first day of holy month of Ramzan (April 25) across the country. The worshippers offered special daily night prayers called "Taraweeh" at their homes in compliance with nationwide lockdown norms amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Mizoram To Celebrate Chapchar Kut On March 6, 2020

  • Mizoram will celebrate Chapchar Kut, the biggest and most important festival of the Mizos, on March 6, 2020. The meeting of Chapchar Kut organizing committee held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Zoramthanga decided that the festival will be a two-day event.
  • While March 5 will be celebrated as pre-festival, which would be graced by Art and Culture Minister R Lalzirliana as "Kut Pa" or the "father of the festival", the grand celebration will take place on March 6, 2020.
  • "Promotion of Mizos' culture and moral code" has been chosen as the theme for this year Chapchar Kut.

Statue Of Unity Finds Place In '8 Wonders Of SCO'

  • The 182-meter tall Statue of Unity in Gujarat has been included in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's '8 Wonders of SCO' list, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced.The 'Statue of Unity', the world's tallest statue, is a monumental tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, independent India's first home minister as well as deputy prime minister.
  • The statue was inaugurated in October 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of Patel's 143rd birth anniversary.
