Rs 125 Crore Allotted To IIT-Kharagpur For Centre's SATHI Initiative

  •  IIT Kharagpur has been selected for setting up a Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institute (SATHI), a Department of Science and Technology initiative of the Centre, for which Rs 125 crore has been earmarked over a period of three years.
  • The primary objective of the state-of-the-art, professionally managed science and technology infrastructure facility will be to extend help to the academic institutes in the neighbouring regions.
  • Research establishments and industries, particularly start-ups and manufacturing units, will also be able to use the sophisticated instruments in a few select areas.
  • IIT Kharagpur will treat the SATHI Centre as its Social Scientific Responsibility (SSR) programme to promote the culture of science-based entrepreneurship and start-ups in the country.

Delhi Cabinet Includes OBC, Gen Category Students In 'Jai Bheem Mukhyamantri Yojana'

  •  The Delhi Cabinet decided to include other backward class and general category students in its 'Jai Bheem Mukhyamantri Yojana', and enhance financial assistance from Rs 40,000 to Rupees one lakh for coaching for various competitive exams.
  •  Earlier, the scheme was only for the scheduled caste category students under which financial assistance of up to Rs 40,000 was provided.
  • The move comes at a time when only a few months are left for the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled to be held early in 2020.

Govt Hikes Ethanol Procurement Price For Fuel Blending

  •  The government announced an increase in the price of ethanol procured by public sector oil marketing companies for one year starting December, 2019.
  • The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The price of ethanol derived from C heavy molasses has been increased from Rs 43.46 a litre to Rs 43.75 per litre, and for B heavy molasses to Rs 54.27 per litre from Rs 52.43 earlier.
  • Also, the price of ethanol from sugarcane juice, sugar, sugar syrup route has been fixed at Rs 59.48 per litre.
  • The increased prices have been approved for the forthcoming sugar season 2019-20 and will be applicable from December 1, 2019 to November 30, 2020.

Health Ministry Proposes Legislation To Address Issue Of Violence Against Health Care Professionals

  •  The Union Health Ministry has proposed a legislation to address the issue of violence against health care professionals and damage to property of clinical establishments.
  • The Ministry has prepared a draft legislation titled- The Health Care Service Personnel and Clinical Establishments (Prohibition of Violence and Damage to Property) Bill, 2019. 
  • The Bill proposes an imprisonment up to 10 years and fine up to 10 lakh rupees as punishment for assaulting a doctor or health care personnel.
  • The Ministry has invited suggestions from the public within a span of 30 days on the draft legislation.

Govt To Set Up 12,500 Ayush Centres Across India

  •  The government has set a target of setting up 12,500 Ayush centres across India, 4000 of which will be set up in 2019.
  • PM Modi stressed for the need to create a homogenous system by creating an "Ayush grid" on the lines of one nation, one tax and one nation, one mobility card. He said this will remove silos in the area of Ayush.
  • The prime minister also pitched for linking technology with tradition in the practise of Ayush medicine.
  • He said the government was working towards bringing in more professionals in the field of Ayush and necessary steps are being taken to that effect.

CBDT Notifies Creation Of Special Cell For Startups

  •  The CBDT  notified creation of a five-member special cell to address the grievances of startups with relation to angel tax and other tax-related issues. 
  • An order issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said the 'Startup Cell' will be headed by the member (Income Tax and Computerisation) of the Board. 
  • The cell will work towards redressal of grievances and mitigate tax-related issues in case of startup entities with respect to administration of Income-tax Act, 1961.

EC Launches Electors Verification Programme

  •  The Election Commission  launched new mega Electors Verification Programme (EVP)  across the country. The programme, which seeks to electoral rolls through crowd sourcing, will go on till 15th of October, 2019.  
  • Under the programme, a voter from each family will get a username and password, allowing a person to upload all documents related to electoral registration and tag similar details about his or her family members. 
  • These details will then be verified by block-level officers. It will be done by 36 CEOs at the state headquarters level, by 740 district electoral officers at the district level and by BLOs and electoral registration officers in around one million polling stations. The EVP programme can be effected both online and offline. 
  • On the occasion of the nationwide mega million launch of Electors Verification Programme, a special camp was held at Election Commission Headquarters in New Delhi.
  • Unveiling the initiative,  Chief Election Commissioner  Sunil Arora said the electoral roll is the foundation on which the entire superstructure of the Election Commission stands.
  • He urged all the citizens to participate in the verification programmes so that the Commission can provide better electoral services in all forthcoming elections.
