Govt Inks Allotment Pact With West Bengal Power Development Corp For a Coal Block

The coal ministry inked an agreement with West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd for allotment of Deocha Pachami Dewanganj-Harinsingha coal block.
The project is expected to address the immediate and future coal and power requirements of the region.

Sports Ministry Sanctions Rs 5 Crore For Anju Bobby George's Academy

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju sanctioned Rs 5 crore to athlete Anju Bobby George's Athletics Academy at Bengaluru.
George is the only Indian to win a World Athletics Championships medal.
She clinched a bronze medal in the long jump at Paris in 2003.

Centre To Give Support Of Rs 8,500 Crore To ECG

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has said the Central government will give support of 8,500 crore rupees to Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India, ECGC, in the next five years.
Interest rates will now be just close to 3.5 per cent. Banks have been advised to extend this new facility to all exporters.
Mr Goyal said ECGC has introduced a scheme called Niryat Rin Vikash Yojana - NIRVIK to enhance loan availability to exporters.
The scheme will also help ease the lending process. He said ECGC provides credit guarantee to exporters up to 60 per cent of loss.
Under the new scheme NIRVIK, up to 90 per cent of the principal amount and interest will be covered through insurance. It will cover both pre and post-shipment credit.

HP CM Launches Helpline For Speedy Redressal Of Public Grievances

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the Mukhya Mantri Seva Sankalp Helpline '1100' for speedy and time-bound redressal of public grievances.
The main focus of the present state government from the day it assumed office was to ensure that the issues, problems and grievances of the general public were redressed at the earliest and in a time-bound manner.
The helpline will function six days a week (Monday-Saturday) from 7 am to 10 pm.

Govt Panel May Examine Non-Personal Data Regulation

The electronics and IT ministry has proposed to set up a committee headed by Infosys co-founder S. (Kris) Gopalakrishnan to look into non-personal data and suggest specific regulations for such data.
This comes after the ministry (MeitY) in its latest stakeholder consultation had sought suggestions on what should be the contours of a policy to govern non-personal data such as community data, anonymised data, and ecommerce data held by companies such as Uber, Google and Amazon.
Non-personal data is unlikely to be part of the Personal Data Protection Bill which is at an advanced stage of being finalised.

Rajasthan Launches 'Jan Soochna Portal'

Rajasthan launched a portal for quick access to information on government departments, claiming that the site is the first of its kind in the country.
Launching the 'Jan Soochna Portal' under the Rajasthan Innovation Vision (RAJIV) campaign, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the move will bring transparency and accountability, and empower the right of the people to seek information.
Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot claimed that with the launch of the portal, Rajasthan becomes the first state in the country to provide information about a dozen departments on a single platform.
The state government has expressed its intention of using technology for transparency and would further strengthen and expand the scope of the RTI law.

Khattar Launches Two Insurance Schemes For Traders

Ahead of the Assembly polls, the Haryana state government launched two insurance schemes for registered small and medium traders in an apparent bid to woo voters.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched "Mukhyamantri Vyapari Samuhik Niji Durghatna Beema Yojana" and "Mukhyamantri Vyapari Kshatipurti Beema Yojana" .
The premium of 38 crore people of both the schemes would be paid by the State government.
The Chief Minister said Haryana was the first State to implement the Kshatipurti Yojana, under which insurance benefits ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh would be provided to the traders on the basis of their turnover to compensate the loss of their stock caused due to fire, theft, flood and earthquake and damage to furniture and other goods.

NGT Forms Committee to Stop Illegal Groundwater Extraction

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has set up a committee to formulate steps required to prevent its unauthorised extraction.
A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the committee to evolve a robust mechanism to ensure that groundwater is not illegally extracted and to monitor manning and functioning of the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA).
The committee comprises joint secretaries of Ministry of Environment and Forests and Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR), Central Ground Water Board, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, National Remote Sensing Centre and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Scheme for easier export credit to be announced soon

A scheme to augment the availability of export credit — at affordable terms and in sufficient volume — will soon be unveiled, said Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
This scheme will include forex credit.
The scheme, which aims to ease availability of export credit especially for small businesses, will likely lead to rates dropping to the sub-4 per cent category.
He also warned against getting bogged down in numbers that may demotivate exporters.
He said there is needless speculation on the government's target of growing the economy to the $5-trillion level.

PM Modi Launches Pension Schemes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in the Jharkhand's capital Ranchi, launched ambitious pension schemes for farmers, shopkeepers and self-employed persons.
'Swarojgar' pension scheme was also rolled out for self-employed persons. Beneficiaries between 18 and 40 years will get Rs 3,000 per month after completing 60 years of age.
The beneficiary can opt to become member of the Scheme by subscribing to a Pension Fund, managed by the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).
Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Kisan Man Dhan Yojana (KMDY) in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
He is also scheduled to inaugurate 400 Eklavya Model Residential Schools for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students in tribal-dominated areas of the state.
The scheme shall secure the lives of 5 Crore Small and Marginal Farmers by providing a minimum pension of Rs 3,000 per month, to those who attain 60 years of age.
The government has budgeted Rs 10,774.50 crore to implement the scheme for the first three years, starting this fiscal.
Further, the scheme is voluntary and contributory in nature, which means that farmers will have to pay a monthly contribution between Rs 55 and Rs 200, depending upon the age of the farmer.

Rawat Launches Dal Poshit Yojana

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat launched a scheme under which ration card holders in the state will get two kgs of pulses at subsidised rates every month.
Launching the 'Mukhya Mantri Dal Poshit Yojana' by distributing pulse packets among the beneficiaries, Rawat said it will help in achieving the Prime Minister's vision of a healthy India.
23.32 lakh ration card holders of the state will benefit from the scheme.
They will get two kgs of Chana dal (chickpeas split) at the rate of Rs 44 per kg in September (2019). Chana dal comes at Rs 65-Rs 70 per kg in the open market.
