CRPF Valour Day

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Valour Day (Shaurya Diwas) is observed on 9 April every year, as a tribute to the brave men of the Force. 2021 marks the 56th CRPF Valour Day. It was on this day in 1965, a small contingent of CRPF created history by defeating an invading Pakistani army, several time larger, at the Sardar Post located in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. The CRPF men eliminated 34 Pakistani soldiers and captured four alive. In the conflict, CRPF lost six personnel who had attained martyrdom.

Dandi Padyatra as Part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav held in Dandi, Gujarat Ends

The Vice President, M. Venkaiah Naidu graced the colourful closing ceremony of the 25-day long commemorative Dandi Padyatra as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav near National Salt Satyagraha Memorial , Dandi, Gujarat. The function was organised by the Ministry of Culture and State government of Gujarat. Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat; Prahlad Singh Patel, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism and Culture; Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat and others were present at the event.
Addressing on the occasion, the Vice President said that Gandhi's iconic Dandi Salt March was a watershed moment in our freedom struggle. Shri Naidu said that it altered the course of history. "The Dandi March we are symbolically revisiting today signifies our nation's ability to stay united when we are faced with challenges", he said.

International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda

On 7 April, UNESCO commemorates the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003. The date marks the beginning of the genocide perpetrated against members of the Tutsi minority by the Hutu extremist-led government. Within just over 100 days, more than 1 million Tutsi were systematically murdered. Moderate Hutu and others who opposed the massacres were also killed during this period.
UNESCO is committed to promote education about genocides as a means to sensitize learners for the causes, dynamics and consequences of such crimes and to strengthen their resilience against all forms of discrimination.

World Health Day

World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 every year, the theme for world health day 2021 is "Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone".
In 1948, the WHO held the First World Health Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7 April of each year, with effect from 1950, as the World Health Day. The World Health Day is held to mark WHO's founding and is seen as an opportunity by the organisation to draw worldwide attention to a subject of major importance to global health each year.
World Health Day is one of 11 official global health campaigns marked by WHO, along with World Tuberculosis Day, World Immunization Week, World Malaria Day, World No Tobacco Day, World AIDS Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Chagas Disease Day, World Patient Safety Day, World Antimicrobial Awareness Week and World Hepatitis Day.

E9 Education Ministers Meet

Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre is to attend the Education Ministers meet of E9 countries. The meeting is to be held under the following theme:
E9 initiative: Scaling up digital learning to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4.
During the meet, the leaders are to create an initiative on digital learning and skills. The initiative is to target marginalised children and youth. The initiative will mainly accelerate three of the 2020 Global Education Meeting objectives. They are: Support to teachers, Investment in skills and Narrowing of the digital divide.
E9 is a forum of nine countries. It was created to achieve the goals of "Education for All" initiative of UNESCO. In E9, E stands for Education and 9 represents nine member countries.

International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on 6 April presents an opportunity to recognise the role that sport and physical activity plays in communities and in people's lives across the world.
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) is an annual celebration of the power of sport to drive social change, community development and to foster peace and understanding.
Created by the United Nations General Assembly in 23 August 2013, supported by the International Olympic Committee since 6 April 2014.
This date commemorates the inauguration, in 1896, of the first Olympic games of the modern era, in Athens, (Greece).

National Maritime Day

Every year on April 5, the National Maritime Day is celebrated, in an effort to create awareness in supporting safe and environmentally sound intercontinental commerce and the global economy. This day focuses on defending and preserving the maritime zone of the country.
The first time the National Maritime Day was celebrated was on April 5, 1964. The history of India's shipping actually started on April 5, 1919, it was for the first time that the SS Loyalty, which was the first ship of The Scindia Steam Navigation Company Ltd which was the biggest first large scale shipping company owned totally by the local Indian businessmen had travelled from Bombay (Now Mumbai) to the United Kingdom (London).
The 58th edition of the National Maritime Day and for creating more awareness the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee has instituted the highest award to recognize and honour persons for their sustained and outstanding contribution to the Maritime Domain. The Varuna award ceremony is conducted in Mumbai and any person who fulfils the criteria receives a statue of Lord Varuna.
