International Missing Children's Day

International Missing Children's Day is observed globally on 25th May every year. This day is observed for missing children who have found their way home, remember those that are victims of crime, and continue efforts to seek out those that are still missing. 25 May is now widely referred to as Missing Children's Day, with the forget-me-not flower as its emblem.
The day was proclaimed in 1983, by U.S. President Ronald Reagan. In 2001, 25 May was the first formally recognized as International Missing Children's Day (IMCD), to a joint effort on the part of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), Missing Children Europe and therefore the European Commission.

Commonwealth Day (India)

The Commonwealth Day is celebrated on the second Monday in the month of March every year. However, in India another Commonwealth Day is also celebrated on May 24. Also known as the Empire Day, the Commonwealth Day commemorates the formation of the British Empire in India and other colonies of Britain.
It was not until after the death of Queen Victoria, who passed away on January 22, 1901 that Empire Day was first celebrated. The first Empire Day was celebrated on May 24, 1902 which was the Queen's birthday. Many schools across the British Empire were celebrating it even before it was officially recognised as an annual event.

Sixth UN Global Road Safety Week: 17-23 May 2021

The 6th UN Global Traffic Safety Week, which in 2021 celebrated between 17 and 23 May, called for 30 km/h (20 mph) speed limits to be the norm for cities, towns and villages worldwide. UN Global Road Safety Week (UNGRSW) is a biennial global road safety campaign hosted by WHO.
Each UNGRSW has an advocacy theme. The theme for the 6th UNGRSW is Streets for Life, under the tagline #Love30. It brings together individuals, governments, NGOs, corporations, and other organizations from around the world to raise awareness of road safety and make changes that will reduce the number of road deaths.

Shangri-La Dialogue Summit in Singapore Cancelled

The Shangri-La Dialogue Asian security summit that was due to be held in Singapore next month has been cancelled, citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, including on the host country.
This year's event, which is arranged by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), had been scheduled to take place from June 4–5.
The event has typically attracted top level military officials, diplomats and weapons makers from around the globe since its launch in 2002.
The global COVID-19 situation has recently deteriorated, with the rise of infectious new virus variants, IISS said.

International Day for Biological Diversity

The International Day for Biological Diversity (or World Biodiversity Day) is a United Nations–sanctioned international day for the promotion of biodiversity issues. It is currently held on May 22.
International Day for Biological Diversity is observed to raise and create awareness about biodiversity issues. The theme of the day for 2021 is, "We're part of the solution #ForNature."

National Endangered Species Day

National Endangered Species Day is celebrated each year on the third Friday of May across the country. This year (2021), National Endangered Species Day has been observed on May 21. The day helps us review how many animal species are under the threat of extinction and how the drastic effects of climate change are disturbing the once peaceful ecosystem.
All the living things on the Earth are connected- the loss of one species often triggers the loss of others. Hence, to raise awareness about the endangered species of flora and fauna every year National Endangered Species Day is observed.

National Anti-terrorism Day

National Anti-Terrorism Day is observed on May 21 in India every year. The objective behind the observance of this day is to wean away from the youth from terrorism and the cult of violence by highlighting the suffering of common people and showing how it is prejudicial to the national interest.
It was on this day in the year 1991 that former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated. This year commemorates Rajiv Gandhi's 30th death anniversary as India observes Anti-Terrorism Day.
It is proposed by MHA that the 'Anti-Terrorism Pledge" may be taken solemnly by the Officials in their rooms/offices itself, keeping in view the safety of participants and organisers and to avoid public gatherings.
The official announcement of National Anti Terrorism Day was made after the assassination of India's seventh Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991. He was killed in Tamil Nadu in a campaign by a terrorist. Then, under the V.P. Singh government, the center has decided to observe 21st May as Anti Terrorism Day. On this day Anti Terrorism pledge is taken in all the government offices, public sector undertakings, and other public institutions, etc.
