World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is dedicated to highlighting the issue of elder abuse. This day came into existence in June 2006 when a request was established to declare June 15 a special day for elders. But it was the year 2011 when the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The day was established after the UNGA officially acknowledged it in its resolution 66/127 in December 2011.
This year's theme for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is 'Access to Justice'. It serves as a reminder of the importance to fully address the needs of older persons who may seek recourse.

Global Wind Day

World Wind Day or Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that is held every year on June 15. It is celebrated to inform about wind energy, it's power and the possibilities it holds to change the world.
World Wind Day is organised by WindEurope and Global Wind Energy Council. It is believed that wind energy may be able to change the world. National wind energy associations and companies involved in wind energy production organise events in many countries around the world.
Global Wind Day began in Europe in 2007 and globally in 2009.

NATO Summit Held in Brussels

NATO has kept its citizens safe for over 70 years and will continue to adapt in this decade and beyond. At the NATO Summit in Brussels in June 2021, NATO Leaders took decisions on a wide range of topics to address the security challenges of today and tomorrow.
A NATO summit is a summit meeting that is regarded as a periodic opportunity for heads of state and heads of government of NATO member countries to evaluate and provide strategic direction for Alliance activities.
NATO summits are not regular meetings like the more frequent NATO ministerial meetings, but rather are important junctures in the alliance's decision-making process on the highest level. Summits are often used to introduce new policy, invite new members into the alliance, launch major new initiatives, and build partnerships with non-NATO countries.
From the founding of NATO in 1949, there have been a total of thirty NATO summits; the last of which was the UK summit in Watford held in December 2019. Only the traditional summits have received an official number, thereby excluding the exceptional summit of 2001 in NATO headquarters.

International Albinism Awareness Day

International Albinism Awareness Day is observed by the United Nations on June 13 every year. This year, the theme of the celebration is 'Strength Beyond All Odds'.
According to the global body, the theme was chosen to highlight the achievements of people with albinism around the world, show that people with albinism can defy all odds, celebrate how people with albinism worldwide meet and exceed expectations in all domains of life and encourage everyone during this time of a global pandemic to join the global effort to build back better.

World Day Against Child Labour 2021

World Day Against Child Labour is observed on 12 June every year around the world. The day aims to spread awareness about the illegal practice of child labour that still prevails. The objective of this day is also to spread awareness to eradicate it completely across the globe.
This special day was first observed in 2002 by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), a United Nations agency. As per the latest report by the ILO and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), child labour has increased to 160 million worldwide.
This year, the theme of World Day Against Child Labour is 'Act Now: End Child Labour'. Amid the coronavirus pandemic and global crisis, there has been a drastic surge in child labour across the world due to people facing employment woes.

World Accreditation Day

World Accreditation Day (WAD) is celebrated every year on 9 June to promote the role of accreditation in trade and the economy. The theme for WAD 2021 is "Accreditation: Supporting the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)". It provides the opportunity for ILAC and IAF members to share examples with stakeholders, regulators and consumers of how accreditation may be applied to meet objectives such as increasing trade, addressing environment and health and safety concerns, and improving the general overall quality of output in an economy.
WAD is a global initiative, jointly established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation.

World Oceans Day

Every year, on the occasion of World Oceans Day on 8 June, the world comes together to celebrate the largest water body on the planet. This day is observed to create awareness about the benefits provided by the oceans to human beings.
In 2008, World Oceans Day was declared as an official occasion by the United Nations (UN) which finalises different themes every year to celebrate the special day. This year's theme is 'The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods', which focuses on the livelihood and life that oceans sustain.

World Food Safety Day

World Food Safety Day is observed every year on June 7 to draw attention and inspire action to prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks. Food and shelter are the necessities of life. Every human being has a dependency on food (including water), air, and cloth for their existence on earth.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) recognizes the global burden of foodborne diseases, which affect individuals of all ages.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed in 2018 that every 7th June would be World Food Safety Day. In 2020, the World Health Assembly further passed a resolution to strengthen global efforts for food safety to reduce the burden of foodborne disease.
WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with the Member States and other relevant organisations.
This year's theme for World Food Safety Day is 'Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow', which focuses on producing and consuming safe food.

Oasis of Hope: Film Division's Online Festival

Film Division organised an online festival on environment called "Oasis of hope" on 5th and 6th June 2021 to mark the importance of World Environment Day (WED).
It celebrated the spirit of keywords of WED namely, "REIMAGINE, RECREATE, RESTORE". This 2-day festival showcased films giving strong message on reviving environment and reimagining nature's co-existence. It also suggested several ways to restore inseparable relationship of human being and nature.
