World Population Day

  • World Population Day is observed every year on July 11. The main purpose of this day is to draw attention towards the issues arising out of rising population across the globe. India has the world's second-largest populace after China.
  • This year, the theme of World Population Day 2021 is 'the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on fertility'. It will be observed to shed more light on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on sexual and reproductive health and reproductive behaviour globally. It is organised by the Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

World Population Day

  • World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987, the approximate date on which the world's population reached five billion people. World Population Day aims to increase people's awareness on various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.
  • The day was suggested by Dr. K.C.Zachariah in which population reaches Five Billion when he worked as Sr. Demographer at World Bank.

CII Organised Indo Pacific Business Summit

  • First edition of Indo Pacific Business Summit is being organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with External Affairs Ministry. It was inaugurated on July 6, 2021.
  • This event witnessed the participation from Ambassadors and High Commissioners of various countries across Indo Pacific.
  • Secretary (East) in External Affairs Ministry, Riva Ganguly Das addressed the summit and underlined promotion of trade facilitation in Indo-Pacific by improving cross border linkages and trade infrastructure.
  • She highlighted importance of a free, open, & rules-based Indo-Pacific in facilitating trade & connectivity across the region.
  • She also highlighted initiatives undertaken by India including building up of cross border linkages & infrastructure, promotion of digital connectivity, Supply Chain Resilience Initiative, and Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.

World Chocolate Day

  • World Chocolate Day or International Chocolate Day is celebrated around the world on July 7. The day is an annual global celebration of chocolate, which allows people to gorge and indulge, hopefully guilt-free, in it. On this day chocolate lovers from all over relish eating different kinds of chocolate or create several dishes with it like cakes, pastries, sinful and gooey brownies, hot chocolate or chocolate mousse, without any guilt.
  • World Chocolate Day was first celebrated in the year 2009. However, some even believe that people started marking July 7 as International Chocolate Day because it was the day when chocolate was first introduced to Europe in 1550.

Global Forgiveness Day

  • Every year July 7 is observed as Global Forgiveness Day. On the day, seek forgiveness and have the big heart to forgive others for their mistakes.
  • Global Forgiveness Day was founded in 1994 by the CECA (Christian Embassy of Christ's Ambassadors). It originally started in Canada, but as it gained popularity throughout the world, it was renamed as Global Forgiveness Day.
  • While there is a different Forgiveness Day in August, founded by the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance, the Forgiveness Day on 7th July was founded by CECA. Honestly, though, both days really have essentially the same message; to forgive!

World Zoonoses Day

  • World Zoonoses Day is commemorated on July 6 of every year. The day is marked to raise awareness on the various risks of zoonotic diseases among people and also teaches the actions against it. The zoonotic disease can be spread from animals to humans and it is dangerous to the life of both. It is an epidemic disease which makes it more dangerous.
  • World Zoonosis Day commemorates the success of the creation of the first vaccine against the rabies virus, zoonotic disease, and it was administrated by Louis Pasteur to Joseph Meister after a rabid dog mauled him. It happened on July 6, 1885. It is observed every year on the same day as a remembrance and to thank the creator of the vaccine.
