International Chess Day

The International Chess Day is celebrated annually on July 20, the day the International Chess Federation was founded, in 1924.
The idea to celebrate this day as the international chess day was proposed by UNESCO, and it has been celebrated as such since 1966, after it was established by FIDE.
This year will mark FIDE's 97th anniversary.

Science Exploration Day

Science Exploration Day (also called Moon Day) is marked every year on 20 July. It was on this day in 1969 that Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first humans to land on the Moon's surface.
The origins of Space Exploration Day date back to man first walking on the moon, with the day itself first observed to commemorate this historic event during events held in the early 1970s.

Cannes Film Festival 2021

The Cannes Film Festival is drawing to a close, and despite the pandemic it managed to gather a larger number film stars in the sunshine for the obligatory photo opportunities.
This distinctive line-up of director Wes Anderson and actors Timothee Chalamet, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray for their film The French Dispatch proved irresistible as a meme.
Jessica Shortall described the line-up as "Tiktok-LinkedIn-Instagram-Twitter", while Philip Bump dubbed them "Z, X, Millennial, Boomer".
Sara Wallace Goodman spoke for many of us when she described the stars' fashions as: "Zoom presentation attire, remembering how I dressed before Zoom, imagining how I'll dress after Zoom, how I'll actually dress after Zoom."
That picture became one of the viral moments from the prestigious festival, but there were plenty of other talking points.

Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela's birthday.
In November 2009, the UN General Assembly (UNGA) declared 18 July as "Nelson Mandela International Day," in recognition of the contributions made by Nelson Mandela, the former South African President, to the culture of peace and freedom.

World Day for International Justice 2021

World Day for International Justice is observed across the globe on July 17 every year to mark an emerging modern system of justice against international criminal acts. The reason behind observing such an occasion on this date is that the International Criminal Court (ICC) was formally established on July 17, following the adoption of the Rome Statute.
The Day of International Criminal Justice is celebrated by honouring individuals working to advocate the fundamental human rights of victims affected by criminal acts. People also come together around the world to host events promoting international criminal justice and support for the ICC.

Bastille Day

Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the national day of France, which is celebrated on 14 July each year.
In French, it is formally called Fête nationale and commonly and legally le 14 juillet.
The Bastille was initially built as a fortress guarding the eastern entrance of the city of Paris during the 1300s. It was later used as a French state prison and a place of detention for important persons during the 17th and the 18th centuries, the online English encyclopedia Britannica says.
