Anshula Kant is New World Bank MD and CFO

  •  The World Bank Group announced that Anshula Kant, an Indian national, was appointed its next MD and CFO. Ms. Kant would be the first woman CFO of the Bank.
  • Anshula has more than 35 years of expertise in finance, banking, and innovative use of technology through her work as CFO of the State Bank of India.
  • Ms. Kant would be responsible for financial and risk management and report to Mr. Malpass. Her duties would include risk management and financial reporting and she will work with the Bank's CEO to mobilise financial resources.
  • Ms. Kant holds an Honours degree in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College and a post-graduate degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics.

DCP Madhur Verma Shifted to Arunachal

  •  Deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi district) Madhur Verma, who was also the spokesperson of the Delhi Police, was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh.
  • In a similar order issued by the home ministry, Verma's wife, Niharika Rai, a 2005-batch IAS officer, was also transferred to Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Anil Mittal who is presently posted as the additional spokesperson will discharge duties of the spokesperson till further orders.
  • Similarly, additional deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi) was given the district's charge until the name of new DCP is announced.

Rajat Bhargava Head of EV Biz

  • Hero MotoCorp Ltd. appointed Rajat Bhargava as head of its newly created Emerging Mobility unit as India's biggest motorcycle manufacturer looks to claim a slice of the country's electric vehicle (EV) market. The government, in a bid to promote electric automobiles in polluted cities, last week proposed tax waivers on the purchase of EVs and removed import taxes on some auto components to help boost sales. Reuters reported last month that the country's leading think-tank had proposed electrifying most motorbikes and scooters within the next 6-8 years, helping reduce the world's third-biggest emitter of greenhouse gases dependence on fossil fuels.

Arun Kumar New Head of Civil Aviation

  • Arun Kumar, additional secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, was appointed the Director General of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
  • Kumar was leading the DGCA as an additional charge between May 31 and July 9 but an order issued by the ministry means that he would now serve as full-time head of aviation regulator DGCA.
  • According to an official order, Kumar's appointment as Director General in DGCA in the rank and pay of Additional Secretary was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. Kumar is an IAS officer of 1989 batch of Haryana cadre. He would succeed B. S. Bhullar as the new chief of DGCA.

LinkedIn Appoints Ashutosh Gupta

  • Professional social media network LinkedIn announced the appointment of Ashutosh Gupta as Country Manager for India, effective September 2019.
  • He would replace Mahesh Narayanan, who was Country Manager for India from January 2019 to June 2019.
  • With over two decades of experience in the Internet and IT & Software Services, Gupta worked in industries across firms such as Google, Cognizant and Infosys.
  • He joined LinkedIn in 2013 to lead LinkedIn's Marketing Solutions (LMS) in India. In 2016, he moved to Singapore to build LMS's Online Sales Organisation (OSO) for Asia Pacific and China.

Rao Removed as CBI Additional Director

  • M. Nageswara Rao, who was made interim chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a short period last year, was moved out of the premier investigative agency.
  • The order on the 1986-batch IPS officer was cleared by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet which has Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its members. Rao was made director general of Fire Services, Civil Defences and Home Guard, till he retires next year.
  • Despite Supreme Court barring him from taking any major decisions, Rao transferred an officer in January this year and was sentenced by the Supreme Court for contempt.
