Wrestler Babita Phogat And Father Join Bjp

Ahead of the Haryana assembly elections, international wrestler Babita Phogat and her father Mahavir Phogat joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi.
An Arjuna awardee, Babita won the silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She bagged a gold medal in the same event at Glasgow in 2014 and at Gold Coast, Australia in 2018.
Both Babita and her father,a Dronacharya awardee, joined the BJP in the presence of sports and youth affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, party's general secretary in charge of Haryana Anil Jain and state chief Subhash Badala.
The Phogat household came to be known nationwide following the success of Hindi film Dangal, which was loosely based on the lives of Phogat sisters, all of them wrestlers, and their father who coached them against all odds.

Sonia Gandhi Is Back As Congress President

Less than two years after she gave up the post, Sonia Gandhi was chosen to be president of the Congress on August10, 2019 albeit in an interim position, as the grand old party gropes for direction in the aftermath of a devastating electoral defeat that prompted her son and successor Rahul Gandhi to resign.
The CWC finally accepted the resignation Rahul Gandhi submitted as president on May 25, 2019.
Sonia Gandhi, 72, who is also chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), was chosen interim president of the 134-year-old party after a last ditch effort by the CWC to persuade Rahul Gandhi, 49, to continue failed.

K Sreekant Assumes Charge Of CMD, Powergrid

K Sreekant has assumed charge of Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID).
Prior to taking up this assignment, he was serving as Director (Finance), POWERGRID.He has experience of more than 33 years in power sector.

AK Mishra, Joins NHDC As New Managing Director

AK Mishra has joined NHDC as Managing Director. He was serving in NHPC as an Executive Director and has a rich and varied experience of more than 37 years in various fields including investigation, planning, construction and contract management of hydroelectric projects.
Out of this, about 23 years' experience is during field postings in projects which include 9 years of postings in remote and inaccessible terrain.

Cong's J'Khand Chief Quits

Jharkhand Congress chief Ajoy Kumar resigned from the state party chief's post accusing many senior leaders with "vested interests" from the state of thwarting his efforts to rebuild the party bottom-up.
In his resignation sent to Rahul Gandhi, Kumar has also accused his opponents in the party of "hiring goons to assault him in the party office".
It is also another blow for the Congress, the party received a drubbing in the LS elections and its president Rahul Gandhi resigned soon after.
The state unit itself has been witnessing infighting, with several senior leaders demanding Kumar's removal from the post holding him responsible for the drubbing of the candidates in the LS polls.

Maguire Picked As Acting Chief Of Us Intel Body

US President Donald Trump named Joseph Maguire, the nation's top counter-terrorism official, as acting national intelligence director, part of a leadership shakeup at the agency that oversees 17 US spy agencies.
Maguire will become acting director on August 15,2019, the same day national intelligence director Dan Coats' resignation takes effect. It's also the same day deputy national intelligence director Sue Gordon will be walking out the door too.

Pakistan's Opposition Leader Maryam Arrested Over Graft Probe

Leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz vice-president Maryam Nawaz Sharif was arrested while she was visiting her father Nawaz Sharif at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.
Anti-corruption watchdog National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials confirmed she was in their custody.
Maryam had earlier been given a questionnaire based on six questions in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

Munkad Ali Is BSP UP Chief After Party Rejig

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati restructured the party organisation by appointing former Rajya Sabha member Munkad Ali as the president of the BSP's Uttar Pradesh unit.
She also removed party leader in the Lok Sabha, Danish Ali, replacing him with Shyam Singh Yadav, an MP from Jaunpur seat.
Danish Ali, who had been with the Janata Dal (Secular) for long, joined the BSP just before the Lok Sabha polls.
Outgoing state president RS Kushwaha has been made national general secretary.
