Supreme Court Allows Women to Appear for NDA Exam

The Supreme Court allowed women candidates to appear for National Defence Academy (NDA) entrance exam scheduled on September 5, saying debarring them amounted to gender discrimination.
In an interim order, a Bench led by Justice SK Kaul, however, clarified that the results will be subject to the final outcome of the petition.
It also directed the Union Public Service Commission to issue an appropriate notification taking into account its order and give it due publicity.

Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya: Tokyo Olympic Silver Medallist's School Renamed

To honour the Tokyo Olympic silver medallist, the Delhi Government has renamed Ravi Dahiya's school in the national capital, announced Manish Sisodia. The wrestler's school 'Rajkiya Bal Vidyalaya', which is situated in Adarsh Nagar, has been renamed as 'Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya'.
"A large portrait of Ravi Dahiya will also be installed in this school so that young children are inspired and motivated to have an Olympic dream and bring glory to our great nation," Sisodia added.
Ravi Dahiya said that the Delhi government consistently supported him to help him win the Olympic medal.

IIM-Nagpur Launches MBA for Working Professionals

IIM Nagpur launched MBA for Working Professionals (MBA-WP). The programme will upskill the mid-career professionals with a management degree. The courses will be delivered by IIM Nagpur faculty members as well as visiting faculty and eminent experts from industry and academia.
The programme aims to attract diverse professionals from various sectors of the industry, public sector organisations, and entrepreneurs, which will provide the batch participants with a good peer network and learning.

Calcutta University Ranks 2nd in ARWU Rankings

Calcutta University has secured the second rank in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated all teachers, administration staff, and students of Calcutta University.
According to a notification issued by Calcutta University, the Shanghai Ranking - Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), 2021 has adjudged Calcutta University as the best among all universities across India.

Ministry of Social Justice Launches an E-study Platform "TAPAS"

Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has launched an online portal named TAPAS (Training for Augmenting Productivity and Services) to provide filmed lectures/courses and e-study material in the field of social defence. TAPAS is the initiative of the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The course can be taken up by anyone and is free of cost.

All Sainik Schools Will Now Admit Girls

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that all Sainik Schools in the country will now be open for girls also. At present, 33 Sainik schools are operating in the country.
During his Independence Day speech, the Prime Minister said that two-and-a-half years ago, the maiden experiment of admitting girls in Sainik schools was carried out in Mizoram.
"Now, the government has decided that all the Sainik schools in the country will also be open for the daughters of the country," he said.
Sainik schools are run by the Sainik Schools Society which is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence.

IIM-Calcutta Launches One-year Executive Programme in Healthcare Management

The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta announced a one-year executive programme in healthcare management (EPHM) commencing from September 2021. The programme aims to provide an outlook of the healthcare sector across the world, the latest policies and their implementation. This also comprises practices such as disaster and epidemic management which is extremely relevant for professionals in the current environment.
The objective of the programme is to develop an interdisciplinary orientation towards the management of healthcare and training the participants in managerial leadership. The course also familiarises participants with innovation and entrepreneurship in the Indian healthcare sector and inculcating comparative frameworks in understanding healthcare challenges in developing countries.
