Cow Dung Products, Boosting Biogas Use IIT Delhi Bags National Competition Award

IIT Delhi won the Enactus India National Competition 2021 -- an annual event providing students a platform to showcase the work they do in communities. IIT Delhi bagged the win with two of its projects involving cow dung products and boosting biogas use.
The IIT Delhi team is now set to represent India at the World Cup in October 2021. This year, over 110 Enactus college teams in India worked on over 170 social entrepreneurship projects.
Over 4,000 students from more than 80 colleges across the country participated in Enactus India National Competition 2021.
IIT Delhi's Enactus team presented two projects of which the first one named 'Arth' involved using cow dung to create innovative eco-friendly products including logs, painted lamps, clocks -- all handmade by traditional Madhubani artists.

JIPMER for Makes it to Top 100 in Global Survey

Former MP M. Ramadass has hailed the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research's (JIPMER) feat of ranking among the 100 best medical colleges in a recent global survey.
Mr. Ramadass said that CEO World Magazine has reported that based on Global Ranking criteria 100 best medical colleges of the world have been selected for the year 2021, among which six Indian medical colleges, including JIPMER, find a place.
JIPMER, securing 78.86 credit, occupies 59th position in the 100 best medical colleges of the world and fourth among Indian institutions. The AIIMS Delhi, Armed Forces Medical College Pune, CMC Vellore, Medical College Chennai and IMS BHU Varanasi are the other medical colleges to make to the list.

India's First Hindu Studies Course at BHU

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) started an MA course on Hindu Studies from this academic year. This is India's first such course and it is being conducted at BHU's Bharat Adhyayan Kendra (BAK) in its Faculty of Arts. It will be run by the Philosophy, Sanskrit, Archaeology, and Vedic Veda Vigyan departments, and the Bharat Study Centre.
In January 2021, senior members of the board of studies at BHU had passed the proposal to begin this course after long deliberations. Apart from Indian students, foreign students will also be able to join this course.
Other central universities will also begin the Hindu Studies course soon.
Anyone from any discipline arts, science, IT, technology who holds a graduation degree can take admissions to the BHU Hindu Studies MA course of two years.
The MA course will comprise 4 semesters and 16 papers out of which 9 are compulsory and 7 are elective.

India Approves World's First DNA Covid Vaccine

India's drug regulator has approved the world's first DNA vaccine against Covid-19 for emergency use.
The three-dose ZyCoV-D vaccine prevented symptomatic disease in 66% of those vaccinated, according to an interim study quoted by the vaccine maker Cadila Healthcare.
The firm plans to make up to 120 million doses of India's second home-grown vaccine every year.
Previous DNA vaccines have worked well in animals but not humans.
India has so far given more than 570 million doses of three previously approved vaccines - Covishield, Covaxin and Sputnik V.
About 13% of adults have been fully vaccinated and 47% have received at least one shot since the beginning of the drive in January.

Assam to Implement NEP from April 2022

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government will implement the New Education Policy (NEP) from April 2022.
He said that this process would be completed by the end of March next 2022.
Under NEP, all high schools would be upgraded to senior secondary school. The government would upgrade the academic infrastructure of the educational institutions for this purpose within a year.

IIT Madras Joins Hands with Road Transport Ministry

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras has collaborated with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for research in areas of pavement engineering and intelligent transportation systems.
According to officials, their collaborative work will include research on novel pavement materials and technologies, hydrogen cell transportation, automatic vehicle classification, novel toll systems, incident management systems, traveller information systems, FastTAG data analytics and traffic simulations besides transportation safety.

N. K. Singh Succeeds Manmohan as President of IEG

N. K. Singh, chairman of the Fifteenth Finance Commission, has been elected president of the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG). He succeeds former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
A prominent administrator and policymaker, Singh has been the chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management review committee and also served as member of the Rajya Sabha (2008 –2014).
The Institute of Economic Growth (acronym IEG), is an autonomous body and civil service training institute under the Government of India, founded in 1952 by the renowned economist, V. K. R. V. Rao, for advanced research on economic and social development.
