Government Preparing Exhaustive Database of Healthcare Workers

To project India as a global source in the health sector, the Centre is developing an online repository of all categories of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists that also mentions the country where they wish to render their services. The portal, being developed by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) as part of the government's 'Heal by India' initiative, is likely to be launched on August 15. It will be voluntary for all healthcare professionals to provide their information to the portal and all steps are being taken to ensure data security. The personal information provided will be authenticated by UIDAI while registration details will be verified by the respective councils.
The healthcare professionals who can register themselves in the portal include practitioners of modern medicine as well as the traditional system of medicine, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and 56 categories of allied health professionals.

NHA Launches Revamp Ayushman Bharat Health Account Mobile App

The National Health Authority (NHA) under its flagship scheme of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) announced the launch of a revamped Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) mobile application. The ABHA app, previously known as National Digital Health Mission' Health Records app is available for download from the Google Play Store and already has over 4 lakh downloads. The updated version of the ABHA app has a new User Interface (UI) and added functionalities that enable individuals to access their health records anytime and anywhere.
In addition to this, ABHA mobile application has new functionalities such as edit profile, link and unlink ABHA number (14 digit) with ABHA address. Other functionalities such as Login via face authentication/ fingerprint/ biometric and the ability to scan QR codes at the counter of the ABDM compliant facility for express registration shall also be released soon.

Ministry of Education Releases National Achievement Survey 2021 Report

Ministry of Education released the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2021 report. It assesses the health of school education system in the country by conducting comprehensive evaluation survey of children's learning competencies at classes 3, 5, 8 and 10th with a cycle period of three years. The report reflects the overall assessment of school education system. The last National Achievement Survey was held in 2017.
The NAS 2021 was held on 12th of November2021 at all India level and covered Government Schools, Government Aided Schools and Private Unaided Schools.
The objective of NAS 2021 is to evaluate children's progress and learning competencies as an indicator of the efficiency of the education system, so as to take appropriate steps for remedial actions at different levels.

Antiviral Drugs May Reduce Monkeypox Symptoms, Shorten Contagious Phase

Some antiviral medications might have the potential to shorten symptoms of monkeypox and reduce the amount of time a patient is contagious, according to a study of seven patients diagnosed with the rare viral disease in the UK between 2018 and 2021. The research also reported the patient response to the first off-label use of two different antiviral medications -- brincidofovir and tecovirimat -- to treat the disease.
The researchers also report detection of monkeypox virus in blood and throat swabs. As optimum infection control and treatment strategies for this disease are not yet established, data from the study could help inform global efforts to further understand the clinical features of the disease as well as transmission dynamics.

UAE Becomes First Gulf State to Record Case of Monkeypox

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the first Gulf state to record a case of monkeypox. The Czech Republic and Slovenia also reported their first cases, joining 18 other countries to detect the virus outside its usual African base. That number is expected to rise further still, but experts say the overall risk to the general population remains low. Outbreaks of the virus have been found in Europe, Australia, and America.
The symptoms often include fever and rash – but the infection is usually mild. The World Health Organization said that the virus can be contained with the right response in countries outside of Africa where it is not usually detected.

Ministry Of Education Releases National Achievement Survey Report (NAS) 2021

The National Achievement Survey (NAS) report for the 2021 edition was released. NAS2021: One of the largest surveys in the world, the National Achievement Survey (NAS) 2021 was conducted across the country, to identify the learning gaps & to take remedial measures. The NAS 2021 report cards for the national, state and district levels have been made available at the official website "nas.gov.in."
The survey was conducted in 22 languages in Language, Mathematics and EVS for Class 3 and 5; Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Science for Class 8 and Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and English for Class 10.
The objective of NAS 2021 is to evaluate children's progress and learning competencies as an indicator of the efficiency of the education system, so as to take appropriate steps for remedial actions at different levels. It will help to unravel the gaps in learning and will support state/UT governments in developing long term, mid-term and short-term interventions to improve learning levels and orient on differential planning based on NAS 2021 data.

Belgium Becomes First Country to Make Quarantine Compulsory for Monkeypox Patients

Belgium became the first country to make a 21-day quarantine compulsory for monkeypox patients after four cases of the disease were reported. The Belgian health authorities took this decision, Saudi Gazette reported citing Belgian media. The Belgian Institute of Tropical Medicine has said that the risk of a larger outbreak in the country is low.
Monkeypox is a disease in the same family as smallpox and symptoms include a distinct bumpy rash, a fever, sore muscles, and a headache. Monkeypox is less deadly than smallpox, with a mortality rate below four per cent, but experts are worried about the unusual spread of the disease beyond Africa where it usually circulates.
