UGC May Allow Part-time PhD for Working Professionals

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is exploring the possibility of allowing part-time PhD programmes for working professionals in tune with the system followed by the IITs.
UGC vice-chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said that part-time PhD programmes are also offered by prestigious universities across the world.
The UGC had in March notified the draft UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022. The provision on part-time PhD programmes is likely to find a place in the regulations which are being finalised.

CBSE Launches Pariksha Sangam; One-stop Solution for CBSE Students & Administrators

CBSE Board launched a portal named 'Pariksha Sangam' to connect students, school regional offices and CBSE board headquarters to integrate examination-related processes. A single window will from now be available for board examination results, sample papers, and other details.
CBSE's pariksha sangam portal can be accessed at 'parikshasangam.cbse.gov.in'. The portal is divided into three parts, namely- Schools (Ganga), Regional Offices (Yamuna) and Head Office (Saraswati).

Prof. Yogesh M Joshi First Indian to Become Fellow of the Society of Rheology

IIT Kanpur professor Yogesh M. Joshi from the Department of Chemical Engineering was elected as one of the Fellows of the Society of Rheology, 2022. He is the first Indian to be selected for this prestigious honour.
The Society of Rheology Fellowship is a prestigious status that "status recognises a history of distinguished scientific achievement, a significant technological accomplishment, and/or outstanding scholarship in the field of Rheology." (The Society of Rheology).
Prof. Joshi has been awarded several key scientific awards. In 2015, he was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Engineering Sciences by the Government of India, and Academy excellence award of the Defense Research and Development Organization 2019.
In 2016, he was elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and in 2017, as a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India.

IIT-Mandi Launches MBA in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi launched an MBA program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The two-year, full-time master's program begins in the Fall Semester of 2022, the institute announced. It will integrate contemporary management concepts, soft skills for developing individuals, and a wide range of data science tools.
This program differs from other technology-oriented programs (like BTech, MTech/ MS) by focusing on the integration of data science and artificial intelligence into various business and management domains, as well as a strong emphasis on managerial decision-making, claimed IIT-Mandi.

UN Projected India's Urban Population to be 675 Million in 2035

According to a UN report, India's urban population is expected to reach 675 million in 2035, ranking second only to China's urban population of one billion people. The report also noted that after the Covid-19 pandemic, the world's urban population is once again on track to increase by another 2.2 billion people by the year 2050.
According to the World Cities Report 2022 by UN-Habitat, the pandemic only momentarily slowed down urbanization's rapid pace.
According to the report, India's urban population is expected to reach 675,456,000 in 2035, up from 483,099,000 in 2020, 542,743,000 in 2025, and 607,342,000 in 2030. 43.2 percent of India's population will be living in urban areas by the middle of the year in 2035.
The report underlined the need to address urban inequality and climate change, citing "heatwaves in Delhi" and Mumbai's "overcrowded slums."

Punjab Assembly Passes Resolution against Any Bid to Change 'Nature' of Panjab University

The Punjab assembly passed a resolution recommending the state government to urge the Centre not to alter the "status" of Panjab University. However, the BJP, with its two MLAs, Ashwani Sharma and Jangi Lal Mahajan, opposed it, asking whether there was actually a proposal to change the status of the institution into a central university.
The resolution was moved by Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who said Punjab had a right over the Panjab University and the state government would not allow the Centre to change its nature and character."Panjab University is our heritage, and it is a matter of identity for us," the minister said.

IIT Delhi Collaborates with DBSE to Design Robotics and Automation Curriculum

IIT Delhi will design a curriculum to train students in the different aspects of Robotics and Automation that will enable them to pursue higher education and diverse career pathways in the field. In this regard, the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) signed an MoU with I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC), the Technology Innovation Hub of IIT Delhi to design a Robotics and Automation curriculum for the Schools of Specialized Excellence (SoSE) under the Delhi government.
IHFC will collaborate with industry partners and players to create an industry-relevant curriculum that will render SoSE students employable in aspirational job roles after four years of specialised study in the domain of Robotics and Automation.

London Ranks Best City for Students: QS Best Student Cities Ranking 2023

In the QS Best Student Cities Ranking 2023, London emerged as the best city for students looking to study abroad in terms of affordability, student facilities, and university standard among other factors. Seoul and Munich were at second place followed by Zurich and Melbourne in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
India's highest-ranked student city was Mumbai at 103 spot which scored for affordability but struggled with student mix and desirability. It's followed by Bengaluru at 114 ranks. Chennai and Delhi have made their entries to the list this year at 125 and 129, respectively.

UK Announces 75 Scholarships for Indian Students on 75th Year of Independence

The United Kingdom government has announced a partnership with leading businesses in India to offer 75 fully funded scholarships for Indian students to study in the UK from September, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of India's independence. Additionally, the British Council in India is offering around 18 scholarships for women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) covering over 12,000 courses across more than 150 UK universities.
The programmes on offer include Chevening scholarships for a one-year Master's programme, with the opportunity to study any subject at a UK university.
HSBC, Pearson India, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons and Duolingo are among the companies supporting this initiative to celebrate India's 75th year of independence. HSBC India will sponsor 15 scholarships, Pearson India will sponsor two, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Sons and Duolingo will sponsor one each as part of the 75 scholarships.

Busan University of Foreign Studies of South Korea Establishes an India Centre for the Promotion ...

Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) established an India Centre for the promotion of India-focused activities in the University.
According to a note from the Indian Embassy in Seoul, the Centre will act as a nodal point for India-related events in Busan and serve as a ready resource for students interested in India and to expand academic and cultural cooperation with the University.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Prof. Hong-Koo Kim, President of Busan University of Foreign Studies, India's Ambassador to South Korea, Sripriya Ranganathan, and Amb. Enna Park, Ambassador for International Relations, Busan City Government along with local govt. officials and business leaders.
On this occasion, an MoU to promote cooperation in the field of education & cultural exchange was also signed between Busan University of Foreign Studies and Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), Embassy of India in Seoul.

Rajasthan's Sikar Highest Performing District in School Education across India, Reveals MoE Gradi...

According to the Union Ministry of Education's Performance Grading Index for Districts (PGI-D), Rajasthan's Sikar was the highest performing district in school education followed by Jhunjhunu and Jaipur. The three districts figured in the 'Utkarsh' category (scoring 81-90 per cent on a scale of 100) with Junjhunu scoring the maximum (236 out of 290) in learning outcomes.
Also, in the second grade 'Ati-uttam', Rajasthan was significantly ahead of the second and third top states having 24 of its districts in this category.
The other states whose districts performed best in the latest index released by the Ministry of Education (MoE) on Monday are Punjab with 14 districts in 'Ati-uttam' grade (scoring 71-80 per cent on a scale of 100) followed by Gujarat and Kerala with each having 13 districts in this category.
