Udyam Scheme

  • According to Government of India, over 11 lakh MSMEs have registered on the new online system of Udyam Registration, which was launched in July 2020.
  • According to GoI, over 3.72 lakh have been registered under manufacturing category and 6.31 lakh have registered under service sector. Of these registered enterprises, 93.17% were micro enterprises, 5.62% were small enterprises and 1.21 were medium enterprises. Around 7.98 lakh enterprises were owned by male, 1.73 lakh enterprises were owned by female entrepreneurs. Around 11,188 enterprises were owned by Divyangjan.
  • The top five industries of registrations include textile, food products, apparel, machinery and equipment and fabricated metal products. Over 1 crore persons were employed through these registration units.
  • The leading states in the registration are Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

Foreign Contribution Amendment Bill 2020

  • The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2020 amends the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. The Act regulates the acceptance and utilisation of foreign contribution by individuals, associations and companies. Foreign contribution is the donation or transfer of any currency, security or article (of beyond a specified value) by a foreign source.
  • Under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, certain persons are prohibited to accept any foreign contribution. These include: election candidates, editor or publisher of a newspaper, judges, government servants, members of any legislature, and political parties, among others.
  • The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill adds public servants (as defined under the Indian Penal Code) to this list. Public servant includes any person who is in service or pays of the government, or remunerated by the government for the performance of any public duty.

Haryana Assembly Passes Bill Approving 75% Job Quota in Private Sector

  • The Haryana Assembly passed a bill to give 75% job reservation to the local job seekers in the private sector; it was one of the key poll promises made by the ruling alliance government.
  • The Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Bill, 2020 provides job quota for local people in private sector with a salary offer of less than Rs. 50,000 per month. The bill covers private companies, societies, trusts and partnership firms and others located in the state.
  • The bill states that only 10 per cent of the recruitment by a private company needs to be from the district in which it is located while the rest of the quota can be filled from other districts of the state. The quota will initially apply for 10 years.

"Go Electric Campaign" of BEE: AP to Set Up 400 EV Charging Stations

  • The "Go Electric" campaign was launched by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in coordination with the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission.
  • The Andhra Pradesh State Government is to set up 400 Electric Vehicle charging vehicles all over the state to promote the usage of electric vehicles. This is to be achieved in coordination with the "Go Electric" campaign of BEE.
  • The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) is the nodal agency to establish charging stations in Andhra Pradesh. 

GoI Forms Committee to Review Television Rating System

  • The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is to set up a committee to review the existing guidelines of Television Rating Agencies.
  • The committee has been formed with four members under the chairmanship of CEO of Prasar Bharti Sashi Shekar Vempati. The other three members of the committee include Rajkumar Upadhyaya (Executive Director of C-Dot), Dr Shalabh, Professor of Statistics from IIT Kanpur and Professor Pulak Ghosh of Decision Sciences Centre for Public Policy.
  • The Committee is to carry out an appraisal system. Also, it will examine the TRAI recommendations that are being notified time to time.

Bill to Protect People against COVID-19 Infection

  • Rajasthan became the first state in the country to pass a bill to protect people against coronavirus infection.
  • Under this new bill, the state assembly amended the Rajasthan Epidemic Act, making it mandatory for people to wear face masks in both private and public means of transport and while attending any social or political events.
  • The House passed the Rajasthan Epidemic (Amendment) Bill, 2020 by voice vote.
  • The Bill has also made the new provision by seeking to add a new clause in section 4 of the Act. The new clause proposes to prohibit the movement of any person in public without properly covering his mouth and nose with a face mask.

'Meri Saheli' Initiative by Indian Railways

  • The Railway Protection Force launched "Meri Saheli" initiative. The initiative will focus on the safety of women passengers. It was launched as a pilot project in South Eastern Railway in September 2020. It was then extended to all zones.
  • The initiative will provide safety and security to women passengers travelling by train. Under the initiative, a team of young RPF women personnel will converse with women passengers at the originating station. They will mainly focus on those women who are travelling alone. During the interaction, the women passengers will be informed about the precautions they have to follow during the journey. Also, they will be informed about the number 182. They can call the number in case of problems.
