Sadin-Pratidin's Lifetime Achievement Award to Homen Borgohain

Every year, the Sadin-Pratidin group award is conferred on persons who have excelled in their chosen area of activities ranging from literature to corporate, and from culture to sports.
This time the Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on eminent writer-intellectual Homen Borgohain.
The ceremony was attended by Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while former President Pranab Mukherjee joined with a video link due to his indisposition.

E.U.'s Sakharov Human Rights Prize Awarded To Jailed Uighur Intellectual, Probably Angering China

The European Union awarded its highest human rights prize to the imprisoned Uighur intellectual Ilham Tohti in a move that pointedly rebuked China's treatment of the Muslim ethnic minority and may draw a reprisal from Beijing.
Tohti, an economist who advocated greater autonomy for the Uighurs of Xinjiang in western China, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2014 on separatism charges.
He had spent years criticizing Chinese government restrictions and crackdowns on Uighur culture and calling for dialogue between his people and the Han ethnic majority in China.
In a statement announcing the 2019 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, European Parliament President David Sassoli called Tohti "a voice of moderation and reconciliation" and noted that China has detained more than 1 million Uighurs in internment camps since 2017.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg To Receive $1 Million Berggruen Prize For Philosophy And Culture

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is the winner of this year's $1 million Berggruen Prize for philosophy and culture.
The award announced by the Los Angeles-based Berggruen Institute honors Ginsburg for her pioneering legal work for gender equality and her support for the rule of law. The institute says Ginsburg will direct the money to charity.
The 86-year-old Ginsburg has been on the Supreme Court since 1993.
She is the court's oldest justice, but maintains an active public speaking schedule that took her to the San Francisco Bay Area. Ginsburg has been treated for cancer twice in the past 10 months.

Kerala's Nedumangad Declared Best Block Panchayat

Nedumangad block panchayat in Kerala has won the prestigious Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar for 2019.
Representatives of the panchayat in Thiruvananthapuram district received the award from Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar at the national panchayat awards function.
Altogether Kerala's civic bodies were given nine awards appreciating their good work at different levels, including delivery of services and sanitation.
The other civic bodies which won the awards are Kolazhy (Thrissur district), Tirunavaya and Maranchery (Malappuram), Srikrishnapuram (Palakkad), Sasthankotta (Kollam) and Pappinisseri (Kannur).

YES BANK Wins Digital Payments Award At MEITY Startup Summit 2019

YES BANK, India's fourth largest private sector bank, won the DigiDhan Mission Digital Payments Award 2018-19 for'Overall Performance in Digital Payments' at the MeitY Startup Summit 2019 held in Delhi.
The award was presented by Chief Guest, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communication, Electronics & IT and Law & Justice.
YES BANK will continue to contextualize digital payments across retail and corporate customers and fuel the transaction growth using payment technologies such as UPI, IMPS, AEPS, NETC and NCMC.
As tools like Aadhaar and Digital locker evolve, the Bank shall also focus on creating a paperless, fully digital banking experience to retail customers.
The Bank is also expanding geographies into rural areas to reach the hitherto unbanked and under banked through various initiatives with the State Governments.

Panchayati Raj Minister To Confer National Panchayat Awards 2019

Minister of Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar confered the National Panchayat Awards 2019 at a function in New Delhi.
The Awards will be given to awardee Panchayats and States in various categories. These categories are Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar, Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar, Gram Panchayat Development Plan Award, Child-Friendly Gram Panchayats Award and e-Panchayat Puraskar.
As many as 246 awards will be given out of which 195 awards will be given in Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar category and six states will be awarded in e- Panchayat Puraskar category.
The awards are given to the best performing Panchayats in recognition of their good work at different levels including the delivery of services and sanitation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palaniswami Conferred Doctorate By Deemed Varsity

Vice President presents 'Most Eminent Senior Citizen Award' to former Attorney General, K. Parasaran
The Vice President of India, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu today presented 'Most Eminent Senior Citizen Award' to legal luminary, scholar and former Attorney General of India, Shri K. Parasaran at a function at the India International Centre in New Delhi.
Shri Parasaran was honored with the Award on the occasion of the Elder's Day celebration of Age Care India, an organization working for the welfare of the elderly.

Jio MAMI 21st Mumbai Film Festival

Veteran actor Deepti Naval was honoured with the Excellence in Cinema Award at the opening ceremony of the 21st Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival with Star.
She was presented the award by filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj and actor Deepika Padukone.
Naval made her acting debut with Junoon in 1978. In her career spanning over 40 years, she has acted in more than 60 films. Some of her iconic films include Kamla, Chashme Baddoor, Mirch Masala, Rang Birangi, Firaaq, Leela and Memories in March.
The 20th Jio Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) Mumbai Film Festival was attended by Bollywood celebrities.
Isha Ambani said she was attending on the behalf of her mother, Nita Ambani, who co-chairs the Jio MAMI festival.
