Korean Lantern Festival Gets UNESCO Heritage Honours

South Koreas Lantern Festival has won the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status.
It's an annual festival that dates back centuries and it marks the birthday of Buddha. All across the country you find colourful lanterns decorating temples, houses and streets and there also are large parades with elaborate floats.
UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage status aims to protect traditions, knowledge and skills which are often inherited through generations, so they are not lost or forgotten as time moves on.

Kylie Jenner Tops Forbes 2020 List for Highest-paid Celebrities

American media personality and reality TV star Kylie Jenner was crowned the highest-paid celebrity of 2020 by Forbes.
The top-earning stars in the world earned a combined of USD 6.1 billion in 2020 with Kylie Jenner and Kanye West at the top of the list. Setting aside Kylie's history with Forbes, the financial experts there calculated her earning this year to be at USD 590 million after she sold a majority of her beauty brand's stake to Coty Inc.
Ranked at No. 2, on the list by making USD 170 million was American rapper and record producer Kanye West, who is also coincidentally Kylie's brother-in-law. The aspiring politician has his Adidas partnership to thank for this hefty payday.

UNESCO to Launch Prize on Creative Economy

UNESCO is to launch an international prize in the creative economy field in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International prize is to be launched from November 2021.
2021 has been declared as 'International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development' by UNESCO. Currently, there are only twenty-three UNESCO International Awards in the name of international celebrities and organisations. For the age of the organisations, the numbers are very few. Thus, the UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International prize has its own significance.
The prize will create a knowledge sharing mechanism by capturing, celebrating and communicating the best practice in developing creative entrepreneurship. The prize will be fifty thousand USD and is to be given once in every two years.

Greenlight Planet Honoured at S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards 2020

Greenlight Planet Inc, the largest provider of solar-powered home energy products in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, has won the 'Award of Excellence — Power' at the 22^nd annual S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards, an annual awards programme that recognises exemplary corporate and individual innovation, leadership and superior performance.
Often described as "the Oscars" of the energy industry, the S&P Global Platts Global Energy Awards highlight achievement in 21 categories spanning the entire energy complex.
Greenlight Planet was selected out of twelve finalists, which were selected from a broad range of 300 energy companies from over three dozen countries who develop innovative and pioneering technology to address the world's greatest energy challenges.
The company was recognised for its innovation of a pay-as-you-go energy business in Nigeria involving a complex cash collections model that has already impacted more than 200,000 lives across the country and is poised to enable significant scale in reaching Nigeria's 20 million under-electrified households.

Engineer from Hyderabad Wins World Quizzing Championship

Ravikant Avva an engineer from Hyderabad has won the prestigious World Quizzing Championship 2020, an annual international competition, which saw the participation of 668 quizzers from across the world.
Ravikant Avva graduated from IIT-Madras and IIM- Ahmedabad and is presently working for a multinational company in Singapore.
The championship, conducted by the International Quizzing Association (IQA), this year was an intense two-hour test of general knowledge and current affairs with 240 questions across eight categories, including sciences, history, sports, art and culture.
Avva has been active in quizzing for the last 25 years, including topping the WQC standings in the Asia-Pacific region in 2018 and 2019.

HelpAge First Indian NGO to Bag UN Award

HelpAge India became the first Indian NGO to be awarded the prestigious 2020 UN Population Award in the institutional category.
The selection of HelpAge is in recognition of its work on population issues and efforts in the realisation of rights of older persons in India since 1978. The award was presented during a virtual event held at UN headquarters in New York to mark Human Rights Day.
The award brings focus to the issue of ageing with India housing an estimated 140 million elderly. HelpAge, with 42 years of fieldwork, has presence in 125 districts across 25 states.
It works for welfare of elderly. The NGO impacts 2 million elderly in India.
