Scientist Manas Bihari Verma, Key Man Behind Tejas, Dead

  • Aeronautical scientist Manas Bihari Verma, who played a key role in the development of the country's first light combat fighter aircraft (LCA) 'Tejas', passed away at Darbhanga in Bihar.
  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over Verma's demise and said his role in the field of aeronautical engineering will always be remembered.
  • Verma was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2018.
  • He worked with several aeronautical engineering establishments in the country and went on to become a programme director of Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bangalore between 2002 and 2005. Here, he got a chance to work with former President Kalam, the architect of India's nuclear program.

Sindhu, Michelle Li Appointed Ambassadors for IOC's 'Believe in Sport' Campaign

  • The Badminton World Federation announced that India shuttler PV Sindhu and Canada's Michelle Li have been nominated as athlete ambassadors for the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) 'Believe in Sport' campaign aimed at preventing competition manipulation.
  • Sindhu and Li will be working alongside other athlete ambassadors from around the world to raise awareness on the topic of competition manipulation amongst athletes and encourage. Both have been global ambassadors for BWF's 'I am badminton' campaign since April 2020. The IOC's 'Believe in Sport' campaign was launched in 2018 to raise awareness among athletes, coaches and officials of the threat of competition manipulation.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jagmohan Passes Away

  • Former Union Minister and Jammu and Kashmir governor Jagmohan passed away after a spell of illness. He was 93.
  • Jagmohan started his career as a bureaucrat and was seen by many as a tough and efficient administrator. He also served as the lieutenant governor of Delhi.
  • He was appointed Jammu and Kashmir governor in 1984 and completed his five-year tenure.
  • As militancy erupted in Jammu and Kashmir, he was made the governor again in 1990 but was removed within a few months as differences between him and the then V P Singh-led government at the Centre grew over tackling the militancy.

Former National Selector Kishan Rungta Dies

  • Former BCCI selector and Rajasthan captain Kishan Rungta died in Jaipur. He was 88.
  • Rungta served as a national selector from Central Zone in 1998. He played 59 first-class games between 1953 to 1970, scoring 2717 runs.
  • His late elder brother Purushottam was a BCCI treasurer in the 1970s. Purushottam's son Kishore held the same position in the early 2000s.
  • The Rungta family dominated Rajasthan cricket for nearly five decades before Lalit Modi beat them in the elections and wrested control in the mid-2000s.

Bihar Chief Secretary Passes Away

  • Bihar Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Singh died in a private hospital.
  • Singh who had tested positive was undergoing treatment at Paras hospital where he died.
  • He was appointed as the Chief Secretary after retirement of his predecessor Deepak Kumar on February 28.
  • A 1985 batch IAS officer, Singh was slated to retire in August end.

Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja Becomes ASICS Brand Ambassador

  • Sportswear brand ASICS announced that it has appointed Ravindra Jadeja, the all-rounder of the Indian cricket team as its brand ambassador.
  • The company, which focuses on sporting gear for the running category, said that its partnership with Jadeja would further strengthen the company's commitment, spread awareness about its diverse offerings, and magnify the reach of the brand during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
