Mahindra Defence Systems Bags Contract from Indian Navy

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said that group firm, Mahindra Defence Systems Limited (MDS) has bagged a contract worth Rs. 1,349.95 crore for manufacturing of Integrated Anti-Submarine Warfare Defence Suite (IADS) for modern warships of Indian Navy from the Indian government.
Competitive bids from Indian companies were invited by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) through open tender wherein the systems fielded were put through detailed trials at sea to prove their capability.
Mahindra Defence would be supplying 14 IADS systems for the Indian Navy warships.
IADS is high-end underwater equipment that uses the latest technology along with a complex array of sensors, designed to detect and protect warships from underwater threats.

India and Kazakhstan Joint Training Exercise 'KAZIND-21'

India and Kazakhstan kicked off a 13-day military exercise with a focus on counter-terror operations in mountainous terrain. The "KAZIND-21" exercise is being conducted at a Kazakh training node in Aisha Bibi in Kazakhstan from August 30 to September 11.
The exercise provides an opportunity to the Armed Forces of India & Kazakhstan to train for counter-insurgency/counter-terrorism operation in the mountainous, rural scenario under UN mandate.
From the Indian side, personnel from the Bihar regiment of the Indian Army are participating in the joint exercise. The Kazakhstan army is represented by a company group.

NSG Commandos Undertake Counter-terrorist Drills

Multiple cities in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and the National Capital Region hosted synchronised commando drills as part of a national mock exercise being carried out by the counter-terrorist force National Security Guard (NSG) to check its response time and reaction to hostage and hijack-like situations.
The third edition of the week-long annual exercise called 'Gandiv' was launched at these locations by the NSG from August 22 and concluded on August 28.
Gandiv was the name of Arjuna's bow in Mahabharata.
The exercise covered potential targets in the NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat depicting multiple cities, multiple targets scenario cumulatively covering about 30-35 targets.

China, Pakistan, Thailand and Mongolia to Hold Military Exercise

The militaries of China, Pakistan, Mongolia and Thailand will take part in a multinational peacekeeping exercise to be organised by the People's Liberation Army in the country's central Henan province next month.
The four countries will take part in the first multinational peacekeeping live exercise "Shared Destiny-2021" at the combined-arms tactical training base of the PLA in Henan's Queshan County from September 6 to 15.
All the four countries will dispatch more than 1,000 troops to participate in the drills, involving units of infantry, fast response, security, helicopter, engineering, transportation and medical services.
The scenario of the exercise is joint operations of multinational peacekeeping forces and the exercise will be held in a close-to-real battlefield environment set in accordance with the international, professional and realistic combat standards.

Rajnath Singh to Commission Coast Guard's Offshore Patrol Vessel Vigraha

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will commission offshore patrol vessel Vigraha of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in Chennai.
The ship will be based in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and operate on the eastern seaboard under the operational and administrative control of the Commander, Coast Guard Region (East).
The 98-meter vessel, with a complement of 11 officers and 110 sailors, has been designed and built indigenously by Larsen & Toubro Ship Building Limited.
The vessel is fitted with advanced technology radars, navigation and communication equipment, sensors and machinery capable of operating in tropical sea conditions.

25th Malabar Exercise

Indian Navy participated in the sea phase of Exercise Malabar in August 2021 along with the US Navy (USN), Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
The 25th edition of ex-Malabar was hosted by the US Navy in the Western Pacific.
Malabar Exercise commenced in 1992 between India and the United States.
In 2015, the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) joined Malabar as a permanent member.
The 2020 edition witnessed the participation of the Royal Australian Navy.
The Indian Navy's participation includes INS Shivalik and INS Kadmatt and P8I patrol aircraft. The US Navy was represented by USS Barry, USNS Rappahannock, USNS Big Horn and P8A patrol aircraft.
The Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force was represented by JS Kaga, Murasame and Shiranui, in addition to a submarine and P1 patrol aircraft. The Royal Australian Navy was represented by HMAS Warramunga.
The Malabar-21 witnessed complex exercises including anti-surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drill, and other manoeuvres and tactical exercises.

Pankaj Kumar Singh is New BSF DG

Pankaj Kumar Singh, a 1988-batch Indian Police Service officer, was appointed as director general of BSF.
Singh is a Rajasthan cadre officer and is presently serving as the special director general (DG) of the force that guards over 6,300 km of the Indian fronts with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He will take charge on August 31 after the retirement of IPS officer and ITBP DG S. S. Deswal, who is holding additional charge of the BSF DG after the tenure of Gujarat cadre officer Rakesh Asthana ended in July.

Pakistan Successfully Tests Fatah-1 Rocket System

Pakistan conducted a successful test-flight of indigenously-developed Fatah-1 (Guided Multi Launch Rocket System), capable of delivering a conventional warhead.
The new weapon system will give the army the ability of precise target engagement deep inside the enemy territory. The President, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Army Staff congratulated the participating troops and scientists on successful conduct of flight test.
