Hellaro, Nooreh To Open Indian Panorama At 50th IFFI
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar announced the 26 feature and 15 non-feature films, among the 250 films, which will be screened in the Indian panorama section at the 50th International Film Festival of India in Goa to be held from November 20 to 28, 2019 in Goa.
The festival's flagship section, which showcases a selection of contemporary Indian feature and non-feature films, will be opened by Abhishek Shah's Gujarati movie, Hellaro, which won the best film at the 66th National Film Awards, in the feature category.
Ashish Pandey's Nooreh, which follows a young girl whose life is disrupted by daily crossfire at the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir, will open the non-feature category.

500-year-old Tripura Sundari Temple Goes Without Animal Sacrifice This Durga Puja After HC ban
For the first time in over 500 years, Tripura Sundari temple, one of the 51 Hindu shaktipeethas of the country, went without animal sacrifice in Durga Puja after the state's high court banned the practice.
Earlier, the district administration under directions from the state government used to offer one goat daily during Durga Puja for sacrifice in the temple. Similarly a large number of other animals were also sacrificed during Diwali celebrations.
The Tripura high court banned animal sacrifices in temples following a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one retired judge Subhash Bhattacharjee in 2018.
Head priest of Tripura Sundari Temple Chandan Chakraborty said that the order regarding animal sacrifices ban came from local administration on October 5, 2019, the day of Saptami.
Mamallapuram Gears Up for Modi-Xi Meeting
Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu is getting decked up for an informal meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China's President Xi Jinping, scheduled to be held between October 11 and 13, 2019.
The old seaport town in Kanchipuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the meeting between the two leaders can open the doors for exploring the historical and cultural connection between Mamallapuram and China.
Mamallapuram, the city of Mamalla, is named after the Pallava ruler Narasimhavarman-I. Kanchipuram was the capital of the Pallavas around the sixth century and Mamallapuram, a major sea port, was used to establish trade links with South-East Asian countries, including China.
39th World Congress Of Poets Inaugurated At KIIT
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the 39th World Congress of Poets (WCP) at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University in Odisha, the day coinciding with the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
KIIT & KISS founder and President of World Congress of Poets 2019, Dr Achyuta Samanta, renowned author Ruskin Bond and several litterateurs from across the world were present on the occasion.
More than 1000 poets and writers from 82 countries including India and 500 poets from Odisha will take part in the WCP 2019, hosted by KIIT University. 'Compassion through Poetry' is the theme of 39th World Congress of Poets.

50th IFFI 2019 To Be Held In Goa From November 20-28
The 50th International Film Festival of India, IFFI 2019, will be held from November 20-28 in Goa.
Over 200 best films from 76 countries, 26 feature films and 15 non-feature films in the Indian Panorama section will be screened at the film festival.
This was announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi and around 10 thousand people and film lovers are expected to participate in the Golden Jubilee edition of the festival.
Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Amitabh Bachchan's outstanding contribution to cinema will be honoured and celebrated through a package of his impactful and entertaining films.

Shri Prakash Javadekar Inaugurates Exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy in Russia
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Shri Prakash Javadekar inaugurated a unique exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy at Yasnaya Polyana, the birth place of Tolstoy in Russia. The exhibition presented and highlighted their correspondence and their thought process in a very artistic manner.
Local Duma member, Natalia Pilyus, Director of Tolstoy Cultural Centre and over 100 academicians were present on this special occasion.The Minister, who is on a visit to Russia to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting also, inaugurated a special day-long seminar organised to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi as part of 150 years of celebrating the Mahatma.
Bathukamma Festivities Begun
As the sun sets, the lanes and by-lanes of Hanamkonda, Kazipet and Warangal brighten up. Women, young and old in their best attire head to the nearby temples and street corners to celebrate Bathukamma.
They carry trays arranged with a variety of flowers in a cone shape. They vie with one another in arranging the flowers as high as possible. Though the evening rituals last for an hour, the women wake up early and prompt their children to collect as many flowers as possible from the neighbourhood.
All the flowers available during the season "Cassia (thangedu), luffa (bera), celosia (gunugu), nelumbo (thamara) cucurbita (gummadi), marigold (banthi), crossandra (kanakambaram), ixora (ramabanam), hibiscus (mandhara), and so on are collected and attractively arranged. Women mostly gather at the Thousand Pillar temple, Bhadrakali temple, Padmakshi temple in Hanamkonda and some of them look for street corners in their respective localities. They form a circle and place their 'bathukammas' in the centre. They form a circle clapping and dancing rhythmically. All songs carry the essence 'long live mother' urging the goddess to take birth. These moments last for nine days during the Durga Navaratri celebrations preceding Vijayadasami.
Ten-Day Mysuru Dasara Festival Inaugurated In Karnataka
The ten-day Mysuru Dasara festival was inaugurated by celebrated Kannada novelist Dr. S. L. Bhyrappa by offering floral tributes to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari atop Chamundi Hill. Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
The festival would mark cultural programmes, sports events, wrestling competition, film and food festival, book exhibition, flower shows. The festivities would culminate with the grand elephant procession on Vijayadashmi day.

The festival of Navratri began in Gujarat from last evening with the launching of the grand Vibrant Navratri-Mahotsav 2019 at GMDC ground in Ahmedabad. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated the Vibrant Navratri Mahotsav 2019.
Navratri is the world's longest holistic dance festival to invoke the blessings of Mother Goddess, worshiped as Aadya Shakti. The festival attracts tourists from different states of India and abroad in Gujarat.

Nepal Launches Commemorative Coins To Mark 550th Birth Anniv of Guru Nanak Dev
Nepal launched three commemorative coins to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, who is said to have visited Balaju area in the outskirt of Kathmandu five hundred years ago.
The coins with the denominations of 100, 1000 and 2500 Nepalese rupees were jointly launched on Friday by Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Chiranjivi Nepal and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri.
Also a book titled "Sikh Heritage of Nepal" published on the occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev was released at Hotel Aloft in Kathmandu.
