The festival of lights, Diwali was celebrated with fervour and gaiety across the country and abroad. The festival marks the victory of good over evil.
The festival was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and fervour in Gujarat. The state being the land of business, is also special because of Laxmi Pujan which is significant among Gujarati community.
In Tamil Nadu, people woke up early in the morning and took the traditional sesame oil bath, performed special pujas clad in new clothes and exchanged sweets, pleasantries and good wishes among one another. New movies added colour to the festivities.
In Sri Lanka, the festival was celebrated by Hindu Tamils and expat Indians with traditional fervour and gaiety.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan and exchanged Diwali greetings.
Painting of Modi and Gandhi Receives Highest Bid of ₹25 lakh in e-auction
The e-auctioning of mementos received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was organised by the Culture Ministry, drew to a close, with the highest bid of ₹25 lakh for a painting featuring the PM and Mahatma Gandhi, the government said.
The proceeds from the e-auction will be donated towards the NamamiGange Mission.
The Culture Ministry organised the e-auction from September 14, 2019 to sell 2,772 mementos gifted to the Prime Minister.

President Kovind Addresses Gathering at Vishwa Shanti Stupa in Rajgir
President Ram Nath Kovind said that the timeless teachings of Lord Buddha and Gandhi are panacea for fundamental problems faced by individuals, a community, a country and the entire world.
Addressing 50th anniversary of establishment of Vishwa Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) at Rajgir in Bihar, Mr.Kovind said, the teaching of Lord Buddha can do a lot for conflict resolution in present day.
He said, these days there is a need to connect larger number of people with ideals of Buddha so that peace can prevail in the world.
Governor Fagu Chauhan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other dignitaries graced the Golden Jubilee celebration of Rajgir Vishwa Shanti Stupa.
More than 300 Buddhist monks, devotees and delegates from Japan, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and other countries participated in the function.

President Ram Nath Kovind laid the foundation stone for Sri Sathya Sai Sanathana Samskruti Project at Sai no Sato, Kakegawa, Japan.
Sai no Sato will be developed as a temple on the lines of Akshardham and Swaminarayan Temple to promote Indian traditional culture.
The President also attended a banquet hosted in his honour by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan.

84 Envoys Take Part In Guru Nanak's Birth Anniversary Celebrations
Nearly 84 heads of foreign missions from New Delhi, led by Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri, visited the Golden Temple to take part in celebrations of the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder, Guru Nanak Dev.
The countries whose heads of foreign missions visited the shrine included Afghanistan, Australia, Bhutan, Cambodia, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, USA and Nepal.
The visit was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with the Punjab government and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Puri and ICCR President Vinay Sahasrabuddhe accompanied the heads of missions.
Assam Tourism Launches 'Guwahati Heritage Walk' To Promote Culture And Heritage
In a bid to promote the heritage, history, and culture of Guwahati city, Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) has launched Guwahati Heritage Walk, to showcase the heritage sites of the city to the domestic and foreign tourists.
Jayanta Malla Baruah, Chairman, Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), launched the tour in the presence of tour operators and association members. Guwahati Heritage Walk starts from the North Brook Gate of Sukreswar Temple, then Cotton College, Latasil, Jurpukhuri, Ujanbazar, Shattrakar Devalay and ends at Raj Bhawan.
The main aim of "Guwahati Heritage Walk" is to show the heritage sites of the city to the domestic and foreign tourists through the morning commute.

Indian President Kovind Unveils Gandhi Bust In Miriam College Peace Center
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind unveils of the bust of Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi at the campus grounds of Miriam College in Quezon City which was attended by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and some cabinet officials.
The unveiling of the bronze bust designed by renowned Indian sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar marked the 150th birth anniversary of the Indian peace icon and the 70th year of Philippine-Indian diplomatic relations.
This is the first time that a bust of Gandhi was unveiled in the country. The Philippines now joins Switzerland, South Korea, Australia, Croatia, and Bulgaria among other countries in hosting a symbolic image of Gandhi.
Prahlad Singh Patel Inaugurate CCRT e-Portal And Youtube Channel
Union Minister of state for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated e-portal of Centre for Cultural Resources and Training and YouTube Channel in New Delhi with an aim to take India to a newer digital pinnacle and to promote Indian culture. He will attend the "Digital Bharat - Digital Sanskriti" program organised by Rashtriya Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, CCRT of the Ministry of Culture.
In order to explore & understand the unknown aspects of India's lesser known places and their rural and semi-urban culture, CCRT has started publishing books from the series "Untold Tales of India's Cities".
Knowledge of different regional cultures provides understanding of Indian traditions. CCRT has produced a documentary film "Rahas" with this objective.
