'Hunar Haat' will Restart with the Theme "Local to Global" from Sept 2020

  • This Platform is for artisans and craftsmen from various parts of the country to showcase their art and craft.

Gilgamesh Tablet: Bid to Confiscate Artefact from Museum of the Bible

  • US prosecutors are seeking to confiscate a rare ancient tablet from a Christian museum co-founded by the president of retailer Hobby Lobby.
  • The 3,500-year-old artefact, from what is now Iraq, bears text from the Epic of Gilgamesh, one of the world's oldest works of literature.
  • Prosecutors allege that an auction house deliberately withheld information about its origins.
  • Hobby Lobby said it was co-operating with government investigations.
  • It bought the tablet from the auction house in a private sale in 2014 for $1.67m (£1.36m) for display at the Museum of the Bible in Washington.

National Gallery of Modern Art Launches a Virtual Program 'NGMA Ke Sangrah Se'

  •  National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) New Delhi, the premier institute in the country that houses modern and contemporary Indian art, has launched a virtual program called  "NGMA KE SANGRAH SE" to showcase an iconic and rare collection of artifacts from its repository.
  • The event is based on various weekly/ daily themes & for the current week, the theme is 'Artist by Artists' and dedicated it to Poet Rabindranath Tagore, whose 159th birth anniversary was celebrated  on 7th May 2020.

Buddha Purnima 2020

  • Buddha Purnima is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha, who was the founder of world's fourth-largest religion Buddhism.
  • Lord Buddha founded Buddhism around 2,500 years back in India. According to the Hindu calendar, the first full moon day of the Vaisakha month is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha across the world.
  • This year (2020), Lord Buddha's birth anniversary was celebrated on May 7. It is believed that on this day Lord Buddha was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini (modern day Nepal).

Vesak Day 2020 Observed Globally on 7 May

  • Vesak Day 2020 was observed globally on 7 May. Vesak, the Day of Full Moon is the most sacred day to the Buddhists all over the world. On this day, Lord Gautham Buddha attained enlightenment. The Day is commemorated by the United Nations every year.
  • The Day is being celebrated by the United Nations since 2000. The resolution to celebrate the day was passed in 1999. Since 2004, International Vesak Summit is being organized. In 2019, it was held in Vietnam. So far, the summit has been held 11 times in Thailand, 3 times in Vietnam and 1 time in Sri Lanka.

National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is paying tribute to celebrated painter and artist Raja Ravi Varma on his 172nd Birth Anniversary through a virtual tour.
This virtual tour is showcasing the entire collection of his artworks at reserve collection, NGMA in New Delhi.
