Robots Help in Private Viewing of Major Pop Art Show

London's Saatchi gallery is holding a private viewing for robots and humans, allowing people and machines to wander through the wacky world of pop artist Philip Colbert in a show designed to work both digitally and in real life.
The show displays work featuring Colbert's cartoon lobster, the central character in his paintings and sculptures.
Tele presence robots - remote-controlled robots on wheels with cameras and a tablet screen are on offer for those who don't attend in person.
Guests can tour the gallery in person or by booking a robot which they can then navigate through the space, zooming in and out on works exploring mass consumerism, contemporary culture and history.

Shakespeare's Globe to Get Slice of Culture Recovery Fund

Shakespeare's Globe, the Sage Gateshead and the company behind the Lady Boys of Bangkok are among the latest recipients of emergency government arts funding.
The replica Elizabethan theatre in London will receive almost £3m from the £1.57bn Culture Recovery Fund.
The Birmingham Hippodrome, London's Old Vic theatre and the English National Ballet will all get the maximum £3m.
Gandey Productions, which stages the Chinese State Circus and the Lady Boys of Bangkok, will get more than £1m.
The Sage concert hall will receive £1.8m. Overall, 35 organisations and venues across England will receive up to £3m each in the latest round of grants, which is worth £75m in total. More than 70% is going go to venues and organisations outside London.

Life in Miniature Project

Life in Miniature Project is a combination between the Ministry of Culture, National Museum, New Delhi, and Google Arts & Culture.
Life in Miniature project was launched by the Union Ministry of Culture.
The project will allow online viewing of various hundred small-scale paintings (like Royal Saga, the Ramayana, Pahari style paintings) from the National Museum, New Delhi on Google Arts & Culture by people all over the world.
The project highlights upon the importance of the Digital India mission. It also spotlights the role of technology in the conservation of India's heritage.
The miniature paintings are colorful handmade paintings. They are very small in size. The main feature of these paintings is intricate brushwork. It gives unique identity.
Miniature paintings derived in India around 750 A.D. when the Palas ruled over the eastern part of India. These paintings became famous when religious writings were written beneath the images of Lord Buddha. During the Mughal Empire, the miniature paintings started emerging on a different level.

Andhra Pradesh's Rajamahendravaram to Get Heritage City Tag

Andhra Pradesh's Rajamahendravaram or Rajahmundry is striving to get the heritage city tag from the Central government. The state Archaeological department has prepared a plan in this regard. The state authorities are collecting evidence and seeking remnants of Chalukya dynasty between the 10th and 11th centuries. The state Archaeological is gearing up to submit concrete evidence to get the Heritage City tag soon. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will be approached for obtaining a nod for the excavations process. If the city manages to get the Heritage city tag from the central government, it will receive funds.
Rajamahendravaram used to be known as Rajahmundry. Once the city was the first capital of several Telugu Kingdoms. However, the original name underwent a steady metamorphosis. Finally, the city got the name of Rajamahendravaram during the British rule, as per details provided by Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation. The city is located on the left bank of the river Godavari.

Stolen Ming Vase worth £2.5m Found in Charlton

A stolen 15th century Ming vase worth about £2.5m has been found during a police raid.
The antique is thought to have been taken by a crime group from a collection in Switzerland last June.
The vase was found during a raid in Charlton, south London, and as part of an investigation into counterfeit currency. Class A drugs and two suspected Tasers were also found.
Last week two men were arrested in Mayfair in central London.
Whilst this vase is valued at around £2.5m, it is a one-off and unique and therefore has immeasurable cultural value. It will be repatriated in due course.

Kati Bihu Celebrated In Assam

Locals in Bongaigaon celebrated the Kati Bihu festival in Assam.
Kati Bihu marks an important day for the Assamese people as they celebrate it by lighting up their homes and agricultural fields. People perform cultural dances and organise feasts.
During this time of the year, the paddy in the fields are in the growing stage and the granaries of the farmers are almost empty. On this day, earthen lamps are lit at the foot of the household tulsi plants, the granary, and the paddy fields.
To protect the maturing paddy, cultivators whirl a piece of bamboo and emanate spells to ward off pests and the evil eye.
