Westin Hotels and Resorts Launches Wellness Campaign with Kareena Kapoor Khan

  • Westin Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott Bonvoy's portfolio of 30 hotel brands, announced the launch of the wellness-focused "Let's Rise" campaign for travellers to regain control and enhance their own well-being when they travel.
  • With use of the line "We are all risers", the new campaign speaks about a community of achievers and reinforces the brand's commitment to guests' holistic sense of well-being, the company said. The hotel company created a video featuring its new brand ambassador for India Bollywood actress, Kareena Kapoor Khan.
  • Last week, Marriott Bonvoy, the parent company's travel programme announced a collaboration Arjuna Award winning golfer Shiv Kapur through a multi-faceted contract as a Marriott Bonvoy ambassador. The programme also has a tie up with sports team Mumbai Indians.

Odisha Light House Tourism

  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is to develop five light houses in the state of Odisha. Four districts were identified.
  • The Light Houses are to be built in Public – Private Partnership mode. The identified districts are: Gopalpur lighthouse in Ganjam, Paradip lighthouse in Jagatsinghpur, False point lighthouse in Kendrapara, Chandrabhaga lighthouse in Puri and Puri lighthouse.
  • India had identified 71 lighthouses to increase lighthouse tourism. The plan is to build open air theatre, cafeteria, museum, children's park, landscaping and eco – friendly cottages in these light houses.
  • The Odisha Light house tourism being developed is a part of Marine aids to Navigation 2021. Under the aid, the development was to be brought in the states of Gujarat, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The aid will help develop the lighthouses into tourism destinations. It will preserve the historical and traditional values of the lighthouses.

Bengaluru Emerges as Air Travel Hub in South

  • Fairfax group-owned Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) is positioning itself as the hub in South India with the addition of 20 domestic destinations in the last year.
  • An increase in non-metro routes has also led to the doubling of connecting traffic at Bengaluru airport in calendar year 2021. Connecting or transfer traffic on domestic routes were up 19 per cent in 2021 from 10 per cent in pre-Covid times.
  • Currently the airport serves 74 domestic destinations – the highest ever since the airport opened -- compared to 54 prior to the pandemic.
  • The major airports contributing to high volumes of transfer traffic at Bengaluru were Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad and Goa.

Tourism Ministry Includes Punaura under PRASAD Scheme

  • The Union Ministry of Tourism included Punaura, the birthplace of Sita in Sitamarhi district of Bihar, in its revised list of sites identified for the development under its PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation And Spirituality Augmentation Drive) scheme and approved Rs. 36.86 crore for its development and beautification.
  • Punaura has an ancient temple dedicated to Sita and it has been drawing pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Nepal. Locals have been demanding for the development of tourism facilities at the site. The demand has intensified since the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram, which has led to big development plans for the place.

FAITH Suggest Leveraging Top 10 Cross Country Travel Rank of India

  • Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH), the policy federation of all the national associations representing the complete tourism, travel and hospitality industry of India (ADTOI, ATOAI, FHRAI, HAI, IATO, ICPB, IHHA, ITTA, TAAI, TAFI) has given reference to Ministry of Tourism (MoT) of a global travel ranking for cross - country road travel, where India has been ranked 10 out of 118 countries on multiple parameters such as heritage sites, bio- diversity, landscapes, average travel cost etc.
  • India's ranking is higher than traditional tourism countries. FAITH has suggested to MoT that this top ranking can probably form a vital cornerstone of India's post COVID global repositioning and marketing campaigns. This ranking can be leveraged both for inbound and domestic to demonstrate the inherent tourism attractiveness of our country and enable for gaining post COVID tourism market share.
