IRCTC To Compensate Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express Passengers For Delay

  •  In a first, IRCTC will compensate passengers of the new Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express in case of delay in the train schedule.
  • An amount of 100 rupees will be paid in case the delay is for over an hour and 250 rupees for delay of over two hours.
  • This is the first of its kind offer from any national carrier. It is in addition to the 25-lakh rupees free insurance that will be given to passengers of the train.
  • The train will be flagged off on 4th October, 2019.

Paryatan Parv Begins To Promote Tourism

  •  The nationwide Paryatan Parv, 2019 kick-started to promote tourism in the country which will continue till 13th October, 2019.
  • The aim is to propagate the message of Dekho Apna Desh to encourage people to visit tourist destinations of the country and also spread the message of Tourism for All.
  • The Parv was jointly inaugurated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Tourism Minister Prahalad Singh Patel at Rajpath Lawns in New Delhi.  
  • The Delhi leg of the Parv will continue till 6th October 2019. This year's event is dedicated to 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Northeast to Introduce Seaplanes to Boost Tourism

  • Airport Authority of India (AAI) will introduce water aerodrome or seaplanes in three locations in Assam for the first time.
  • The main aim is to introduce water aerodrome or seaplanes in three locations in Assam. To boost tourism and connectivity, three riverfronts were selected in Assam to introduce the water based ferry for the first time in India,
  • The water aerodrome or seaplane services would be launched in Brahmaputra river and Umrangso reservoir. The three locations selected for the seaplanes include Guwahati, Umrangso (in Dima Hasao district) and the famous Kaziranga National Park.

Railways Mulls over Plan to Run 50 Routes for Private Players

  • Indian railways' plans of privatisation of its routes in a bid to increase its revenue may include 50 origin destination routes.
  • It was deliberated that modern passenger trains would be introduced by private operators who would be selected through a transparent Request for Quotation (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) process. 
  • Some of the proposed routes for long distance travel include Delhi Mumbai, Delhi-Lucknow, Delhi-Jammu/Katra, Delhi-Howrah, Secunderabad-Hyderabad, Secunderabad-Delhi, Delhi-Chennai, Mumbai-Chennai, Howrah-Chennai and Howrah-Mumbai.
 

UDAY Express from Vizag to Vijayawada

  • Taking one more step in improving passenger services, Indian Railways launched the much-awaited train service AC double-decker UDAY Express connecting Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada. 
  • Suresh C Angadi, Minister of State for Railways flagged off the train number 22701/22702 Vishakhapatnam- Vijaywada UDAY Express from Vishakhapatnam railway station in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The UDAY Express or the Utkrisht Double Decker Air Conditioned Yatri service offers business travellers a comfortable and luxurious train travel experience with a slew of swanky on-board features.
 

Saudi Arabia to Open Itself Up To Foreign Tourists for First Time

  • Saudi Arabia would begin offering visas for the first time to non-religious tourists, days after the country was criticised at the UN for its grim human rights record.
  • The kingdom – which imprisoned and tortured women's rights activists, carried out regular public executions, and was responsible for the high-profile murder of the Washington Post columnist Jamal Kashoggi –said that it is opening up to holidaymakers as part of a push to diversify its economy away from oil.
  • The new visa programme for citizens of 49 countries, include the UK and the US.

World Tourism Day

  •  Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day as international observances on September 27.
  • This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism.
  • The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
  • The theme of the day was "sustainable tourism", in 2017. In 2018 the theme was "Tourism and the Digital Transformation". 
  • This time (in 2019), the theme of World Tourism Day is "Tourism and jobs: a better future for all". This year India is hosting the World Tourism Day 2019.
  • India was chosen as a host because it has a different geographical entity than the rest of Asia. India can offer a tourist different tourism choices, diverse cuisines, arts, faiths, music forms, adventures places, history and even language.

Air India To Commence Mumbai-Dehradun-Varanasi Service

  •  National carrier Air India said that it will connect temple town Varanasi with Mumbai with a twice-weekly flight via Dehradun, starting September 28, 2019. A company will deploy an Airbus A319 on the new route.
  •  The flights scheduled to operate every Wednesday and Saturday will fulfill a long-standing demand of tourists and pilgrims to connect Dehradun and Varanasi with the country's financial hub.
  • The new flights are also a part of the Air India's plans to provide connectivity to tier 2 and tier 3 cities with metros.
