Late Arnab Chaudhry Honoured by Legend of Animation Award 2020

  • Arnab Chaudhuri was posthumously awarded with The 'Legend of Animation' award, 2020. This award is instituted by the Toonz Media Group (TMG) as a part of the Animation Masters Summit (AMS), 2020 – Digital Edition.
  • The award was accepted by his wife, Ashuma Chaudhuri at the inaugural session.
  • The award was presented for his contribution towards the animation and entertainment industry of India.
  • Arnab Chaudri passed away on December 25, 2019.
  • He was an alumnus of NID (National Institute of Design), Ahmedabad and worked with – Walt Disney, Turner, Channel V.
  • His movie 'Arjun: The Warrior Prince' was the only animation from India, listed on the Oscar awards.
  • He worked with Toonz at multiple levels.

New Literary Prize is USD 50,000 Honour for Best New York Story

  • A new literary award with a USD 50,000 cash prize will honour those best at telling a New York story.
  • The announcem,ent of the Gotham Literary Prize came out of a conversation between businessman-philanthropist Bradley Tusk and political strategist Howard Wolfson, who told The Associated Press that they first thought of the award last year and saw a renewed urgency for it after the spread of the coronavirus.
  • According to Tusk and Wofson this is an opportune moment to do something like this, to support writers writing about New York, and to support the arts in New York.
  • Wolfson and Tusk are funding the prize themselves and have committed to at least 10 years.
  • Starting next spring, the award will be presented to a book, fiction or nonfiction, published in a given calendar year that is about New York City or takes place there.

Indian-origin Nurse in Singapore Conferred with President's Award

  • Kala Narayanasamy an Indian-origin nurse in Singapore was conferred with the prestigious President's Award for Nurses for serving on the frontline during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Kala was among the five nurses given the award.
  • Each recipient was awarded a trophy, a certificate signed by President Halimah Yacob and SGD 10,000 (USD 7,228).
  • Narayanasamy, who is the Deputy Director of Nursing at Woodlands Health Campus, was awarded for using infection control practices, which she learned during the 2003 severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak, in the current pandemic.
  • She has been involved with the modernisation of nursing in Singapore, with her past projects including the implementation of a self-checkout inventory management vending machine to track the usage of items.

Greta Thunberg Receives 1 million-euro Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity in Portugal

  • Climate activist Greta Thunberg was awarded a Portuguese rights award and promptly pledged the million-euro prize to groups working to protect the environment and halt climate change.
  • Greta said that all the prize money will be donated, through my foundation, to different organisations and projects who are working to help people on the front line, affected by the climate crisis and ecological crisis.
  • She was awarded the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity for the way she has been able to mobilise younger generations for the cause of climate change and her tenacious struggle to alter a status quo that persists.
  • The million euros ($1.1 million) is the largest prize won by the 17-year-old environmental campaigner who has also won Amnesty International's top human rights prize and the Swedish Right Livelihood Award, often presented as an alternative Nobel.

Narendra Singh Tomar Declares the 2019 ICAR Awards

  • Narendra Singh Tomar, the Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare inaugurated the Virtual celebration of the 92nd Foundation day of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and declared the 2019 ICAR Awards.
  • Books on Calves of Cloned Buffaloes, Technological Products, Diagnostic Kits, ICAR Publication and Rajbhasha Magazines were released during the virtual event.
  • Around 161 awards under 20 categories were presented during the virtual event.
  • The National Academy of Agriculture Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad, received 4 awards in different categories
  • Under the Natural Resources Management & Agricultural Engineering category, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award for outstanding Research in Agricultural Sciences and Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, NAARM received the awards in the virtual ceremony.
  • Dr. Bharat Shankar Sontakki, Head, Extension Systems Management Division, NAARM received the Swamy Sahajananda Saraswati Outstanding Extension Scientist Award.
  • Under the Cash Awards Scheme 2019 Administrative Category, N. Vijayalakshmi received the award.
  • Under the Cash Awards Scheme 2019 Support Staff Category, S. N. Rasool received the award.
