NMDC Receives 1st Prize in Ispat Rajbhasha Award and Ispat Rajbhasha Prerna Award

National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (NMDC), country's largest iron ore producer, a CPSE under Ministry of Steel received 1st prize in the Ispat Rajbhasha Award for 2018-19 and 2020-21 and the Ispat Rajbhasha Prerna Award for 2019-20 in the meeting of the Hindi Salahakar Committee of the Ministry of Steel held in Madurai in March 2022. Union Minister of Steel, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, presented the accolades to Shri Sumit Deb, Chairman and Managing Director, NMDC. He appreciated the efforts of all the Steel PSEs in putting into practice the official language of India and congratulated NMDC for winning the awards.
The Minister of State for Steel Shri Faggan Singh Kulaste presented the Citation for a period of three years to the Deputy General Manager (Official Language), NMDC on the occasion.
The meeting was attended by the senior officials of the Ministry of Steel, Members of the Hindi Salahakar Committee, Chairman and Managing Directors of all Steel PSUs.

Maruti Suzuki Gets Global Recognition for its Annual Report

Maruti Suzuki India received the Gold recognition at the prestigious LACP 2020/21 Vision Awards for its Annual Integrated Report. The 2020/21 Vision Awards Annual Report Competition was organised by the League of American Communications Professionals LLC (LACP), USA. The competition received applications from about 1,000 global companies, across 24 countries.
Sixty three of the top Fortune 100 and nine of the top 10 Fortune 500 firms participated in LACP competitions. The LACP global awards in particular recognize outstanding focus on shareholders, their interests and their need to understand the strategic and tactical decisions their companies are making.
The Maruti Suzuki Annual Integrated Report achieved 100 per cent in six out of eight parameters, which were Letter to Shareholders, Message Clarity, Report Narrative, Report Financials, First Impression and Report Cover. This places Maruti Suzuki at the #1 slot among all automobile companies of the world.

Nari Shakti Puraskar

Twenty-eight awards, 14 each for 2020 and 2021, were given to 29 women in recognition of their exceptional work towards the empowerment of women, especially the vulnerable and marginalised.
The awards were given by President Ram Nath Kovind on International Women's Day which was on March 8.
The awardees included Merchant Navy captain Radhika Menon, social entrepreneur Anita Gupta, organic farmer and tribal activist Ushaben Dineshbhai Vasava, innovator Nasira Akhter, Intel-India head Nivruti Rai, down syndrome affected Kathak Dancer Saylee Nandkishor Agavane, first woman snake rescuer Vanita Jagdeo Borade and mathematician Neena Gupta.
The Nari Shakti Puraskar is an initiative of the Women and Child Development Ministry to acknowledge the exceptional contribution made by individuals and institutions and to celebrate women as game-changers and catalysts of positive change in society.

NMCG Awarded 'Special Jury Award' for Ganga Rejuvenation

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) was awarded the 'Special Jury Award' at the 7th India Industry Water Conclave and the 9th edition of the FICCI Water Awards. NMCG was awarded for its effort in reviving River Ganga and bringing about a paradigm shift in water management. The 9th edition of the FICCI Water Awards were organised at the FICCI's 7th India Industry Water Conclave, held virtually on March 02 and 03, 2022.
The Citation underlines the complexity of the task of rejuvenation of the entire Ganga basin and the importance of engaging with diverse stakeholders particularly the people-river connect which forms the basis of NMCG's approach to the challenging task. G. Asok Kumar was appointed as the new Director-General of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).
It is a registered society under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, to take measures for prevention, control and abatement of environmental pollution in river Ganga and to ensure continuous adequate flow of water so as to rejuvenate the river Ganga.
National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is a society registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860. It acted as implementation arm of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) which was constituted under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act (EPA),1986. NGRBA has since been dissolved with effect from October 7, 2016, consequent to constitution of National Council for Rejuvenation, Protection and Management of River Ganga (referred as National Ganga Council). National Mission for Clean Ganga, endeavours to deploy the best available knowledge and resources across the world for Ganga rejuvenation. Clean Ganga has been a perennial attraction for many international countries that have expertise in river rejuvenation.
The vision for Ganga Rejuvenation under NMCG, constitutes restoring the wholesomeness of the river defied in terms of ensuring "Aviral Dhara" (Continuous Flow), "Nirmal Dhara"(Unpolluted Flow), Geologic and ecological integrity.

Swadesh Darshan Awards

The Ministry of Tourism constituted the Swadesh Darshan awards in various categories to acknowledge the efforts made by state governments, union territory administrations, and various implementing agencies.
The awards would be given to recognize best practices like innovative approach, achievement of planned objectives, the adoption of sustainability principles in design, planning, and operations, ability to attract private investments in peripheral development, efficient project monitoring, and efforts undertaken to ensure optimal operations and maintenance, etc.
The UT administrations and the State Governments were asked to submit their entries via online mode.
It was decided by the Ministry to invite entries under various categories such as Best Log Hut Facility, Best Tourist Interpretation Centre, Best Cafeteria, Best MICE Facility, Best Sound and Light Show, Best Craft Haat/ Souvenir Shop facility, and Best Waterfront Development (Beach/ River/ Lake, etc.).

Prof. Dhar First Indian to Get Boltzmann Medal

Prof. Deepak Dhar from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune (IISER Pune) was chosen for the prestigious Boltzmann Medal for the year 2022. He became the first Indian to be awarded the Boltzmann Medal. He was chosen for his contribution in the field of 'Statistical Physics'. A small function was held at IISER Pune campus to felicitate the physicist from his fellow colleagues and director of IISER Pune.
This prestigious medal is awarded in every three years by the Commission on Statistical Physics of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) at the Statphys Conference.
Prof Dhar was born 1951 and completed his graduation in Science in 1970 from University of Allahabad, then Masters in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1972. Then he went to the US for PhD and after completing his PhD joined Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) as a research fellow in 1978. He worked at TIFR over the years as a full-time professor and retired in 2016. Since then, he has joined IISER Pune as a visiting faculty.

Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians

Professor Neena Gupta was conferred the Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians 2021.
Neena Gupta is a mathematician from Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata.
She was conferred the award for her outstanding work in affine algebraic geometry and commutative algebra.
The Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians is a mathematics prize that is awarded annually by "International Centre for Theoretical Physics" in Italy. It has been named after Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The prize was founded in 2004 and first awarded in 2005.
The Ramanujan Prize for Young Mathematicians is awarded to researcher from a developing country who is aged below 45 years and has conducted outstanding research in developing country. It is supported by Ministry of Science and Technology (India) as well as Norwegian Academy of Science & Letters through the Abel Fund, in cooperation of "International Mathematical Union".

Gen M. M. Naravane Presents Presidential Colours to Four Para Battalions

Chief of Army Staff General M. M. Naravane presented Presidential Colours to four parachute battalions at Parachute Regiment Training Centre in Bengaluru.
The four battalions are the 11 Para (Special Forces), 21 Para (Special Forces), 23 Para, and 29 Para battalions.
The award of President's Colours or the 'Nishan' is one of the highest honours bestowed upon a military unit in recognition of its exceptional service to the nation, both during the war and in peace.
