Goa DGP Pranab Nanda dies of cardiac arrest in Delhi aged 57

Goa's Director General of Police Pranab Nanda has died due to cardiac arrest.
Nanda was on a visit to Delhi after attending official functions in Goa. He was 57.
The 1988-batch IPS officer was transferred to Goa on February 25, 2019.

Rajat Sharma resigns from the post of DDCA President

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has run into a crisis in the middle of the cricket season. Its president Rajat Sharma resigned, which was followed by resignations of cricket advisory committee (CAC) members, Yashpal Sharma and Sunil Valson, its CEO Ravikant Chopra, CFO PC Vaish and GM (cricket ops) Manvi Dhodhi.
Sharma decided to quit after struggling to gain support of members of DDCA's apex council in his endeavour to 'clean up' Delhi cricket.
Rajat Sharma (born 18 February 1957) is the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, India TV. He is the anchor and inventor of the very famous TV show "Aap Ki Adalat". He is popularly known for his pro-BJP inclination of his channel.

Bhopal Gas Tragedy Activist Abdul Jabbar Dies

Social activist Abdul Jabbar, who worked tirelessly for the victims and survivors of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy died. He was 62.
He was fondly known as 'Jabbar bhai'.
He was one of the leading figures, who had organised several protests, seeking compensation for the gas tragedy victims' kin and survivors.
Jabbar was the convener of the Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan, an organisation that worked effortlessly to get justice for the worst industrial tragedy victims and their kin.

Nilam Sawhney is New Chief Secretary Of Andhra Pradesh

Nilam Sawhney, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. She belongs to the 1984 batch of the IAS and from AP Cadre.
She takes charge from Neerabh Kumar, who has been holding additional charge as the CS, following the sudden transfer of LV Subramanyam, a week ago. Nilam Sawhney is said to have about four months service.
In the recent past, the CS post in Andhra Pradesh has seen challenging times. IYR Krishna Rao, had a tough relationship with former Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu.
Similarly, before the elections in April 2019, LV Subramanyam, appointed by the Chief Election Commissioner, also had a tough time, with Naidu as in charge CM.

PM Modi Condoles Demise Of Renowned Mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh

Narendra Modi described the death of renowned mathematician Vashishtha Narayan Singh as the loss of a rare talent in the field of science.
Vashishtha Narayan Singh, who had been ailing for quite some time, died at the Patna Medical College and Hospital in Bihar. Vashishtha Narayan Singh died at the age of 74.
He was born in Basantpur village of Bhojpur district in Bihar. Vashishtha Narayan Singh completed his schooling in Netarhat in undivided Bihar.
He was graduated from the Patna Science College and completed his PhD on cycle vector space theory from the University of California in 1969.
He used to teach at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

Delhi High Court Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal Appointed CCI Member

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal for the appointment of Delhi High Court judge Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal as a member in the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
Justice Sehgal will serve as a member of the CCI for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge or till attaining the age of 65 years.
Justice Sehgal was a member of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) implemented by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, with support from United Nation Development Programme, which aimed to strengthen access to justice, particularly for women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and minorities.
She has authored several books on different laws relating to women in India.

Bandhan Bank's C S Ghosh Is Business Standard Banker Of The Year 2018-19

Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, founder, managing director (MD), and chief executive officer (CEO) of Bandhan Bank, is the Business Standard Banker of the Year for 2018-19, just four years after he turned his Kolkata-based microfinance institution into a scheduled commercial bank.
The unanimous decision was taken by a high-profile jury of five, chaired by former Reserve Bank of India deputy governor S S Mundra.
Other members were former State Bank of India chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya, Vice Chairman and CEO of Housing Development Finance Corporation Keki Mistry, Ican Investment Advisors Chairman Anil Singhvi, and Saurabh Mukherjea, chief investment officer and founder of Marcellus Investment Managers.

Mangala Mani Becomes First Indian Woman Scientist to Live In Antarctica for 403 Days

Mangala Mani from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the first woman scientist to spend 403 days in Antarctica. She has forged history with this achievement.
She was part of an expedition team which went to Bharati – India's research station in Antarctica – in November 2016.
Antarctica is a home to inhospitable and ruthless weather conditions. Mani informed that it was a challenge to work there as the climate was very harsh.
She was the only woman in the 23-member-team that went to the freezing continent this time.

Justice Muhammad Raffiq takes oath as Chief Justice of Meghalaya HC

- Justice Muhammad Raffiq took oath as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office and secrecy at Raj Bhavan in Shillong.
- Mr. Raffiq succeeded Ajay Kumar Mittal, who is now the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court. He will be the eighth Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
- Justice Rafiq started his law practice in 1984. He practised exclusively in Rajasthan High Court in almost all branches of law.
- He has been recognized as an expert on the Indian Constitution, service, land acquisition, tax and company law cases.
- In 2008, he was appointed as Justice at the Rajasthan High Court. He also served as acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court twice.

Anjani Kumar Appointed As The Next Ambassador Of India To The Republic Of Mali

Shri Anjani Kumar has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Mali.
The appointment was announced by the Ministry of external affairs (MEA). Anjani Kumar is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer of batch 2003.
He will be replacing Pradeep Kumar Gupta.

Nita Ambani Elected to the Board of the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Philanthropist and businessperson Nita Ambani has been elected to the board of The Metropolitan Museum of Art for her "truly exceptional" commitment to preserve and promote India's art and culture.
Chairman Daniel Brodsky of the museum, considered as the largest and most visited art museums in the world, announced that Ms. Ambani has been named its Honorary Trustee. Her election took place at the meeting of the board.
Nita Ambani, wife of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, is the Founder and Chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, which has supported The Met since 2016, beginning with the exhibition 'Nasreen Mohamedi', which was the first museum retrospective of the artist's work in the United States and was also one of The Met Breuer's inaugural exhibitions.
Ms. Ambani is also a member of The Met's International Council. The museum had announced in October 2017 that the Reliance Foundation promised a generous gift" to support exhibitions that explore and celebrate the arts of India. It had not stated the amount of the gift.
The museum had then described Nita and Mukesh Ambani as "great champions of The Met."

President Accepts Arvind Sawant's Resignation, Prakash Javadekar Gets His Portfolio

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar was given additional charge of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, a day after Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant resigned from the Union Council.
President Ram Nath Kovind accepted Sawant's resignation this morning and allocated the portfolio to Javadekar, who heads two other ministries — Information and Broadcasting, and Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
