Lt Gen Rajeshwar took over as 14th Commander-in-Chief of Andaman & Nicobar Command

  •  Lt Gen Podali Shankar Rajeshwar took over as the 14th Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (CINCAN).
  • A graduate of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, he was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in December, 1980.
  • A gunner and aviator, he is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Army War College and National Defence College in New Delhi and the Philippines.
  • Lt Gen Rajeshwar has actively taken part in Operation Meghdoot and Operation Rakshak, officials said.
  • Further,he was commanded a Medium Regiment in Operation Parakram, an infantry brigade on the Line of Control, Counter Insurgency (Romeo) Force in Jammu & Kashmir and a Corps in the desert sector.

Atul Garg New Chief of Delhi Fire Services

  • Atul Garg was appointed as the new chief of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). Garg, who was at present serving as the chief fire officer of DFS was promoted to the rank of director.
  • Garg, who has spent more than 17 years in the DFS, since 2002, was awarded with meritorious services medal in the year 2009.
  • Garg's predecessor, G. C. Mishra headed the Delhi Fire Services department. After Mishra retired from the service in February 2019, Vipin Kentail was holding the charge temporarily, until Garg was promoted.

Shivangi the First Woman Pilot in the Indian Navy

  • Sub lieutenant Shivangi became the first woman pilot in the Indian Navy. Until now, women officers only served as observers on board aircraft such as the P-8I submarine hunters and Ilushyin-38, also used for anti-submarine warfare.
  • Southern Naval Command chief Vice-Admiral Anil Chawla awarded her the coveted golden wings in Kochi after she successfully completed a "conversion course" with the Dornier training squadron INAS 550, also known as the Flying Fish.
  • Shivangi joined the navy in June 2018 after undergoing training at the Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala in Kerala.

Theatre Artiste Paramananda Sahu DiesĀ 

  •  Prominent theatre artiste of Odisha Paramananda Sahu died due to old age-related illness. Sahu had directed and acted in more than a hundred dramas, besides being an artiste in All India Radio and Doordarshan. He had also acted in several Odia and Bengali soaps and received several awards.

Veteran Journalist Bhaskar Menon Passe Away

  • Veteran journalist Bhaskar Menon died following cardiac arrest. The 87-year old Menon, who retired as the Regional Manager (South) of the Press Trust of India (PTI).
  • He had joined the news agency as a Sub-Editor and rose through the ranks before retiring as the head of its regional bureau. Menon was known for his command over English language and sharp editing skills and always insisted on speed and accuracy.
  • He had handled several key news developments, including the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi May 1991. Menon remained active for many years post his retirement and had taken up the task of analysis of the numerous PTI stories for some years when he used to point out to errors and at the same time applaud where it was due.

Keiko Fujimori Walks Free from Jail

  •  Peruvian opposition leader Keiko Fujimori walked free from prison after being jailed for more than a year pending a trial over allegations she accepted illegal campaign contributions from Brazilian construction firm Odebrecht.
  • Fujimori, leader of the powerful right-wing Popular Force party, left prison in the Chorrillos district of capital city Lima.
  • The country's Constitutional Tribunal, Peru's top court, ordered her release after she was handed an 18-month pre-trial sentence in October last year.
  • Fujimori is the daughter of Peru's ex-President Alberto Fujimori, who is serving a 25-year sentence for human rights crimes and graft.

  •  Ajit Pawar seems to be gradually taking over his old position as the 'number two' in the NCP, after party chief Sharad Pawar. After his failed rebellion and 'return', he is essentially back to his old role — holding important meetings and addressing legislators. He is among the key leaders who devised the strategy for the floor test, and the upcoming Speaker's election.

Japan's Ex-Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone Dies at 101

  •   Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, a giant of his country's post-World War II politics who pushed for a more assertive Japan while strengthening military ties with the United States, has died. He was 101.
  • The office of his son, Hirofumi Nakasone, confirmed that Nakasone died Friday at a Tokyo hospital where he was recently treated.
  • As a World War II navy officer, Yasuhiro Nakasone witnessed the depths of his country's utter defeat and devastation. Four decades later, he presided over Japan in the 1980s at the pinnacle of its economic success.
  • In recent years, he lobbied for revision of the war-renouncing U.S.-drafted constitution, a longtime cause that no postwar leader has achieved to date.

Former RBI Deputy Governor H R Khan To Head Micro-Finance Panel

  • Former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), H R Khan has been appointed as the first chairman of the steering committee of the Code for Responsible Lending (CRL) in micro-credit.
  • The CRL is a self-regulatory step for the micro-credit industry making diverse entities like banks, NBFC-MFIs and NBFCs adhere to standards of customer protection.
  • CRL was launched in September by MFIN and Sa-Dhan, an RBI-recognised association of MFIs, along with Finance Industry Development Council, an association of NBFCs.
